South West Scotland Gundog Association

German Shorthaired Pointer Thank you to South West Gundog Association for inviting me to judge German Shorthaired Pointers at their open show. Thank you also to the exhibitors who all entered under me. Sadly, some dogs I have previously admired from the ringside didn’t show themselves to advantage due to feeling the cold. Breeders and exhibitors need to be mindful of toplines. Roached or sloping toplines are undesirable in the breed. Puppy (5,0) 1 - Brown’s Montalba Miss Aching - Very pretty bitch of almost 12 months. Well up to size with good bone. Good angles front and rear. Correct topline with slight slope from croup to tail. Moved well BP 2 - Lyall & Sutherland - Aytee Quartz - 10 month old dog puppy. masculine head with nothing overdone. So well put together. Moved out well. Handler needs more confidence in this lovely youngster. I believe this was the first show for both handler and puppy. Very well done. 3 - McLean & McClenaghen’s Richtig Ritz Fizz Special Yearling (2,0) 1 -Brown’s Montalba Mustrum Ridcully - well grown dog with masculine head, good front and rear angles, moved much better in this class 2 - Fraser’s Kenzduo Pistachio Cookie - sadly this lad was really feeling the cold and was rather unsettled. Smaller dog than 1, good head, neck and front. Shown in good hard condition. Moved well when settled. Post Graduate (3,0) 1-Ryan’s Magregor Peppermint Moon - my star of the day. I admired her as a youngster and she’s just got better and better. The most beautiful feminine head with kind eye, slightly arched neck leading to well set shoulders. Firm topline which she held on the move. slight slope from croup to tail. Correct tailset. Nice harsh jacket. Well muscled hindquarters which she used to her advantage on the move. BOB. 2-Blair’s Amblairfield Flymaamlewan - heavier set bitch than 1, very pretty head. Correct front and rear. Moved well. Sadly gave her handler a hard time. 3 - McCafferty’s Thorscrag Arora Limit (4,1) 3 very different dogs and none of them very happy today. 1 - McCafferty’s Thorscrag Hades JW - very unhappy boy who was obviously feeling the cold. Masculine head, correct shoulders. Sadly on the stand he had a roached topline however this corrected on the move. Moved well once settled. 2- Gibbon - Faubourg Truly Scrumptious - pretty bitch who was more settled than 1. Handler tends to stand her slightly wide in front. Good topline, well muscled, moved well. 3 - Blair’s Richtig Rihanna Open (4,0) 1 Stewart & Boyles - Magregor Amourette avec Levagrad - This bitch has the prettiest of heads with melting expression. Slightly arched neck leading to correct shoulders. Well angulated front and rear. Super mover. she didn’t show to her advantage in the challenge which sadly cost her. 2 - Brown’s Montalba Mister Teatime - Very masculine head, good neck and shoulders. Correct topline and tailset. Shown in good condition. Well angulated rear. Moved well. 3 - Monie’s Myles Blue Drimmie at Staneshus
