Newark & District Canine Society
NEWARK, February 17, 2024
Newark and District Canine Society held an open show at the Newark and Notts Agricultural Showground, Winthorpe. They attracted a super entry and this well organised committee certainly know how to put on a good show. There was a lovely welcome waiting for both exhibitors and judges & although it was February, the weather gods gave us a warm day to enjoy each other’s company before Crufts. The show ran without hitch with all rings over the four halls being filled all day until the stakes started.
Best in Show in a quality filled ring went eventually to a cracking young junior Jack Russell Terrier, Nagrecha & Tate’s Chandlimore Play Boy at Jaeva, set up he is balanced, the correct size & outline but when you go over him you realise how well made he is. Although he is only 14 months old, he has a masculine head coming along nicely with an excellent eye & well set ears, good neck & shoulders, strong topline, well set & carried tail, his correct coat is well presented. He comes alive on the move with lovely foot fall, excellent head carriage & a look that says “who is second to me?”, I can see the future for this stunning showdog who is full of quality. RBIS not to be overshadowed was another youngster, Rodgers & Ceriati’s Basset Hound, Switherland Mack The Knife, although still young he shows such promise, balanced head giving an excellent expression, well set ears of a good length, lovely neck & shoulders & a good keel with nice ribs, held a good topline & a well set & carried tail, looking good in profile when he stopped playing his handler up! His quality could not be denied in such a strong group. Thank you all for staying.
Best Puppy in Show went to Haines’ Bedlington Terrier, Janmark The Name Of The Game, this 11 month old bitch is both workmanlike & feminine, put down to the minute with her correct textured coat, still has some finishing to do but she is quality & full of breed type, lovely head & expression on a good neck & shoulders, correct topline & moved so true for one so young. RBPIS was Leonard’s ETT,Witchstone Silent Prayer, at only 7 months she screams breed type, from her feminine head & expression from a well shaped eye to her well set & carried ears, through a lovely neck & shoulder with a good topline & correctly placed tail, she is balanced & quality all through, she moved like a trooper carrying herself with style & grace,& wasn’t affected by the cold which was setting in within the hall, thank you for staying. A cracking line-up of potential puppies which augers well for their futures within their breeds.
Best Veteran in Show was Thompson-Morgan & Morgan’s Ch Belleville Anjo De Noite, the 12 year old Portuguese Water Dog bitch who belies her age, still in super coat & condition with a melting expression & a good eye, she has good body proportions but she comes alive when she moves on well boned legs & feet, I can see why she is a champion as was RBVIS, Fletcher’s Ch Fivepits The Detonator, a Schnauzer bitch of a good shape & size, no mistaking her sex as she is very feminine with a good head & expression, a correct shaped eye & the head is framed by well set & carried ears, good neck & held a strong topline on the move & set up, good ribcage, well boned legs & feet, & a good coat well presented. Again, a lovely selection for me to go over, thanks for staying.
