West Of England Scottish Terrier Club

The West of England Scottish Terrier Open Show

Sunday 22nd September 2024

Judge: Miss Nicola Foster (Thozow)

I would like to thank the officers and committee for inviting me to judge my first Scottish Terrier Club Show. A special thank you to Neil Straw for his support and for his excellent stewarding whilst carrying out all his other duties, a Secretary/Show Managers job is never done... I would also like to thank the exhibitors for entering and presenting their dogs. With lots of promising puppies, the future looks good for this lovely breed.

RBIS/ BOS/ BPIS Divadell Mighty Quinn

BB Petmon Royal Gift JW

BPB Kingsview Just Elizabeth

Special Trier Dog/Bitch (2,0a)

1st Greenwood’s Petmon Royal Ruffian JW

A bold dog with real terrier attitude, head fairly wide with narrow appearance and long, dark expressive eye, correct ear placement, pleasing length of neck into sloping shoulders, depth of rib and topline. Moved with drive and was more settled in later classes.

2nd Nixon’s Karmaristol Beau Brie

A wheaten bitch with pleasing head proportions, almond eyes giving her a delightful expression. She is well boned with straight forelegs, has a good length of neck, strong in loin finished with wide buttocks. Such a shame she would not carry her tail today, hopefully with confidence this will come.

Minor Puppy Dog (2,0a)

1st Miller & Hoare’s Glenaffric Hidden Magic

A compact brindle dog. His head is long and flat with strength of foreface, dark brown eyes well set under eyebrows. He stands on short strong legs although he turns his front feet out slightly. Good ribbing and powerful hindquarters. Coat of correct texture, a bit of tidying would be beneficial.

2nd Breden’s Honeypaws Mister Sandman

Wheaten dog, heavier type to 1st, his skull and foreface are of equal length with slight but distinct stop, almond dark eyes, and well placed ears. His ribs are rounded and deep and he is well bodied. Hindquarters broad and strong. Moved ok, but needs time to settle.

Puppy Dog (2,0a)

1st Norton’s Divadell Mighty Quinn

Lots to like about this young dog. He is short in back, pleasing neck into long sloping shoulders. He has an adequate brisket in front of well boned forelegs. He has powerful wide buttocks and enough behind his tail. Head is in proportion to his body and is long with a good bite and dark eye. He moved freely keeping his topline on the move. Beautifully presented in a smart double jacket. BD, RBIS, BPIS.

2nd Miller & Hoare’s Glenaffric Hidden Magic - repeat entry

Junior Dog (3,0a)

1st Norton’s Divadell Mighty Quinn - Repeat entry

2nd Taylor’s Pamaswater Hakuna Matata

Another smart young dog, with a strong, deep foreface, parallel planes, and dark expressive eye.

He has a lovely straight front, a good length of neck, muscular shoulders, and an adequate depth of rib. He is longer in loin than winner and his furnishings are a little sparse, but his coat has an excellent texture. Beautifully handled by his young handler.

A smart black brindle dog beautifully presented in a harsh double coat. I liked this dog for his overall balance with pleasing front and rear angulation. Front has a good width, ribs are deep and carried well back, topline is level and muscular. Would prefer a higher tail set. He moved with good reach and drive.

2nd Broome’s Evingbriar War of The Roses

Another smart young dog, his foreface is well developed with strength and head has good length. Ears erect and of correct size and uses them well. He has a muscular straight front which is well boned with enough brisket. His back is short, his topline level and tail set on high. Moved well

Minor Puppy Bitch (3,1a)

1st Coley’s Kingsview Just Elizabeth

What a star in the making, so confident, she has a feminine head with expressive dark eye, and small erect ear. Her neck flows into well laid shoulders and has a lovely fore chest placed in front of legs, with a super short back. Moved so well for her first show. Will watch this one with interest.

2nd Skudder’s Honeypaws Shake It Off

Another appealing puppy, with lots to like, she is low to the ground, has ample bone, standing on sturdy legs, with a pleasing front. She has powerful hindquarters, with short strong hocks. I would just prefer her to be shorter in loin, although she is balanced. She moved freely.

Puppy Bitch (5,2a)

1st Coley’s Kingsview Just Eleanor

Another delightful puppy, litter sister to the previous class winner, and another that still oozes breed type, and is full of confidence. She has a beautiful straight front, her ribs are deep and rounded, I like her hindquarters and rear angulation and moved with drive. She was presented in harsh double coat.

2nd Norton’s Divadell Harlequinn

This is another quality puppy, of good substance, short coupled, has a good width to her front, muscular level topline, powerful hindquarters, and a good bend of stifle. Her head is long with parallel planes, and neat pointed ears well set. Movement straight fore and aft.

Her neck is of good length and flows into her well laid shoulders. She has an alert expression which is so exquisite. Her front is straight with adequate width, and a good depth of rib.
