I would like to thank the officers and committee for inviting me to judge, and the exhibitors for entering. It was a lovely big ring and we made the most of been undercover. I had an excellent steward who kept everything in order, and I thoroughly enjoyed judging the talented handlers in some well supported classes.

Handling Classes

Junior Handling Association (6-11years)

1st Ewa Scott

Ewa handled a difficult Border Collie, but took this all in her stride. Throughout the class she remained calm to get the best out of her dog. She allowed enough time to set up her dog for the judge to be assessed and did not over compensate. When I asked her to show me her dogs bite, she did cleanly and was very polite and clear in her response . She moved her dog at the correct pace, and performed an equal triangle, with straight lines, and neat corners.

2nd Jayden Scott

Jayden handled a Hungarian Vizsla, he entered the ring with confidence and set his dog up squarely, ensuring there was good space between himself and others. He presented the dogs bite cleanly and moved the dogs foot back in place after I moved it. He was polite at all times. His pattern work was straight with sharp corners, and finished a good distance from the judge. One small error was made on his final turn which cost him this class today, but these 2 will often change places.

3rd Molly Whisker

Molly handled a Border Terrier. May is kind and gentle with her dog, and presented her dog calmly on the table, showed the bite clearly and corrected her dog’s foot placement. She moved her dog at the correct pace and used the ring efficiently. When entering the ring and setting up for the first time, allow enough space for yourself and others as you had got yourself squashed into the corner.

4th Merryn Standlick

Merryn handled a Shetland Sheepdog. This young girl worked hard with her dog, and needed assistance to place her dog on the table, perhaps a stool would help with presenting her dog on the table as she was unable to show the dogs bite. She moved her dog at a good pace, and followed my instructions. Keep practicing, and enjoy.

5th Iona Gregory

Iona handled a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever. Unlucky to have such a powerful dog, this made it difficult handle for her to handle and follow my instructions. Practice your triangles and moving in a straight lines, and showing the dogs bite. I hope she continues to practice, and perhaps handle a different dog in the handling classes.

Junior Handling Association (12-16years)

1st Texas _Lee Dunstone

Texas handled an Affenpinscher . Such a gentle and kind handler, she entered the ring placing herself in a good position to have clear visibility of the judge. Her shadow work is unassuming, ensuring her dog is presented at it’s best. Table work was precise, showing me the dogs bite, and repositioning her dog when required. Her pattern work continued with straight lines and an accurate finish. One small criticism for me, although you are encouraged to maximise the use of the ring, is it is not necessary to use the whole ring for such a small breed but only an equal sided triangle would be sufficient.

2nd Ellie Darling Steele

Ellie handled a Rhodesian Ridgeback. An experienced handler who shows many skills. She presented her dog with precision to the judge, and was aware of my position at all times. She cleanly showed the dogs bite, was polite and repositioned the dog when I moved a rear leg. When completing her pattern work, she finished too close to the judge, and although the lines are straight the dog was less helpful tracking to one side, not giving such a clean picture. Something to work on.

Adult Handling (17- 30years)

1st Yakira Michel

Yakira handled a GSP. What a pleasure to watch both these handlers in action. Yakira is a natural handler who presented and moved her dog accurately at all times. Her confidence shines through as she watches the judge and follows all instructions. Her pattern work excelled with straight lines and neat corners and her up and down and finish was precise.

2nd Pheebe Toublic

Pheebe handled ESS. This handler is unassuming, and I was splitting hairs between these two. It eventually came down to confidence. Pheebe shows all the same skills, understanding how to present her dog, but I would like to see her complete her finishing more efficiently and show how good she is.

Adult Handling ( 30years plus)

1st Natalie De La Cour

Natalie handled a Lhasa Apso. This handler stood out as soon as she entered the ring, getting the best out of her dog. You can see she has a good rapport, allowing tidy shadow work both on the floor and when presenting on the table.

2nd Janet Rice

Janet handled a Tibetan Spaniel. Entered the ring unassumingly, but made sure her dog was positioned in amongst others without invading space. I like her shadowing , making sure I got the best angle of her dog at all times. Her pattern work was accurate and changing hands was seamless.

3rd Michelle Heeley

Michelle handled a Border Terrier. Starting her reverse triangle in her right hand would make it look a. little tidier, but overall her lines were straight and accurate. She moved her dog at the correct pace, and showed the dogs bite cleanly.

4th Naomi Jackson

Naomi handled a Dandie Dinmont. She is a very gentle handler, and has a good rapport with her dog talking and encouraging her at all times. Her pattern work was presented accurately, with pleasing finishing.

5th Nicole Seale

Nicole handled a Whippet, delicately handled, nothing overstated with this handler. She presented her dog on the table and showed the dogs bite accurately. Moved her dog at the correct pace.

6th Margaret McWilliams

Handled a Cocker Spaniel. This handler has many skills, but her response when asked to complete a reverse triangle could have been more polite.
