Border Counties Gundog Club

Labrador Retrievers - Border Counties Gundog Club 28.1.2024 I would like to thank the secretary and committee of this well organised and welcoming gundog club for the opportunity to judge Labradors at their show. The ring was well organised by the stewards Natalie and Moray to whom I am grateful. Thanks also to the exhibitors for bringing their dogs and accepting my decisions in a sportsmanlike manner. PD 1 Percival’s Teazledown Mystery by Wynfaul, 9 month old with masculine head and dark eye. Strong neck into well made front. Correct depth of body, quality bone and neat feet. His tail never stopped wagging; 2 Cook’s Exelby Norman, 8 month old with pleasing head and kind expression. Good strong neck into well made front. Correct jacket and tail. Longer cast than 1. GD 1 Cook’s Velvetine Highland Glen Exelby, 11 month old chocolate. He has a handsome head and correct eye colour. Well made all through with strong neck, good width and depth of chest, in his best jacket and with quality bone he moved on tight feet. He coupling is short and strong which helped produced the outline I was looking for. BOB & BP; 2 Hullock’s Scotsdyke Marchbank Boy, 2 years old and pushed 1 hard. Pleasing head and expression, strong neck into well put together body with correct coat and tail. He worked together with his handler throughout the class. LD 1 Mallin’s Elisabetta Red Teddy, 5 year old yellow, in fine fettle, I would prefer a slightly stronger head but he is adequately constructed and attentive to his handler and they moved as one. OD Abs PB 1 Morrow’s Serengoch’s Nine to Five, well put together 9 month old bitch with feminine head and strong neck. Adequate front angulation, quality bone and short loin. She dropped her top line stacked when her handler was not concentrating but moved well; 2 Neil’s Antonine Cupboard Love, 7 months old and at the raw stage and a little throaty at the moment. She has a lovely head, a glint in her eye and beautiful expression. Moved well on tight feet when she settled, just need to tighten all through as you would expect at her age. GB 1 Cook’s Exelby Aura, well grown bitch of 13 months, with appealing head and strong neck. Good depth of body, quality bone and strong loin. She moved well on tight feet; 2 Morrow’s Rhythm Lacey, 2 year old pretty bitch from a smaller mould with feminine head and intelligent expression. Sound fore and aft she moved okay. Well handled and happy. LB 1 Parker’s Bruadarach Baile Eilidh, 2 year old bitch who is well put together with feminine head and nice expression. Strong neck into adequate forequarters. Good depth of body and quality bone she moved out well on tight feet; 2 Percival’s Wynfaul New Years Eve JW, very pretty 3 year old bitch from a smaller mould. Lovely head and expression. She is well made all through but did not match the movement of 1 today. OB 1 Roberts’ Stormrose Sweet Wishes, 5 year old bitch with nice make and shape. Appealing head and expression with strong neck. Quality bone and tight feet, she has a correct coat and tail; 2 Percival’s Wynfaul Dancing Flame JW, very typy 3 year old bitch with much to like. She looks a picture stacked and pushed 1 hard all the way. I would just prefer a tighter eye. MIKE LEWIN
