Mid Western Shetland Sheepdog Club

Mid Western Shetland Sheepdog Club – Saturday 20 July 2024.

Thank you for the invitation to judge special classes at a club show, Shelties are one of my favourite breeds, thank you also to the exhibitors for their entries.

Shetland Sheepdogs

Shetland Sheepdog Puppy (4,2)

1st James Valmay Victoriana,

A sweet sable 6 month old puppy she was a total poppet. She was carrying a wealth of coat for her age which was well presented. She presented a lovely picture standing, attentive to handler. On handling she had a good lay of shoulder and length of back. Her head is developing well and good placed ear which she used well. She moved confidently.

2nd Bladon Kiemont What A Cracker

A 10 month old sable, different type to first place and not the balanced body shape, I found her longer in back and head than desired. She had a nice fitting coat and neat ears. She had a good turn of stifle and moved well.

Shetland Sheepdog Post Graduate (9,1)

1st Hately Mohnesee’s Meliya JW,

A sparkling tricolour with rich tan markings. Still a junior but so well developed and charming. She created a balanced picture standing, dark well set eyes with a well-developed head giving an alert keen expression, good arch to neck flowing into well laid shoulders and good length of back, she moved free and covered the ground with minimum effort.

2nd Clegram, Smiddyshaw All The Glitz

It was difficult to split these exquisite tricolours Meliya just had the edge as this lady had left her Glitz at home, but this showed off her balance outline and strong movement, driving well behind. Gorgeous head and expression and neat ears.

3rd Berry, Smiddyshaw Here I go Again.

Shetland Sheepdog Open (9,1)

This was a strong class, and I was splitting hairs on placings.

1st Gamble Solyric Inaugraul Gold JW OSW

A handsome almost 7 years sable male. He appealed for his balanced outline and no sign of coarseness. He has a well refined head with a flat skull, good set ears he won this class on his masculine alert expression and soulful dark eyes.

He presented a lovely picture standing, attentive to handler. On handling he has well laid shoulders and good spring of ribs, correct length of back that all came together on the move when he flowed around the ring with ease with the lightness of steps with minimum lift.

2nd Lycett, Iliad Isle Of Ewe

A 4 year old sound sable male who stood and demanded attention. He has a lovely shaded well-fitting coat, and balanced outline. Good head and masculine expression pushed first place hard but just appeared close at the back at times. He had a good side gate covering the ground well.

3rd Clegram, Smiddyshaw I’ll Be There For U JW VW

Beautiful feminine sable lady with the fantastic side action on the move.
