Open Show – 5th May 2024

Judge: Michael Masters

It was an honour to be invited to judge the Stakes classes and Best In Show, Best Puppy in Show and Best Veteran in Show at this friendly show, my sincerely thanks to the Officers and Committee for the invitation. The show set up was excellent with big rings; shame the weather wasn’t so kind to us. My thanks to my steward for keeping the show on the road and special thanks to the brave exhibitors for battling the rain to show your dogs under me. I was spoilt for choice for the top honours, thank you to the Group judges for sending forward such quality.

BEST IN SHOW

O’Higgins & Knudtzen’s CATWALK PRIVATE DANCER AT SARNIA (IMP NOR) – (Standard Poodle)

Cracking young male with elegant, balanced outline, stood four square, proud like a young stallion. Everything flowed from nose to tail, one part seamlessly fitting the next with no interruptions. Defined head with correct eye shape and colour giving that desired intelligent expression. Text book front assembly with good depth and width, ribs well sprung extending back to short, broad loin. Strong, well angulated quarters with good width to first and second thigh. Tail set on and carried correctly, to top it off a quality jacket sympathetically prepared. He moves freely, sound fore and aft covering the ground effortlessly with great reach and drive in profile, with fabulous ring presence.

RESERVE BEST IN SHOW

Ergis’ SOUXLINE MARY ROSE – (Miniature S/H Dachshund)

Another young exhibit oozes breed type and balance with no exaggerations. Typical head of correct proportions, eyes of good shape and colour. Her front construction is to be desired with correct sternum and depth to brisket, well developed ribs extended well back to short, strong loin. Plenty of width over the rear, well muscled thick thighs giving that power of driving action that she has on the move. For a small dog she coped with the wet ground admirably, showing free, flowing and sound movement fore and aft with reach and drive in side gait holding a firm level topline.

BEST PUPPY IN SHOW

Guvercin’s FOREST ZPOD CHLUMSKYCH HAJU GLEBEHEATH (Imp Cze) – (Border Terrier)

My notes say “Wow”, this young puppy at his first show captured me as soon as I saw him enter the ring for his typical breed type and balance - everything in the right place at the right amount for his age. On handling, the reasons for my instant attraction was confirmed with its appealing head, correct front assembly and correct body for age. Such accurate footfall for one so young and the correct harsh jacket. Goosebumps stuff!

RESERVE BEST PUPPY IN SHOW

Moore’s ODIVANE BROTHER IN ARMS – (Schnauzer)

Sturdily built male of ideal size, make and shape, really smart with good balance, he was a joy to handle with correct construction and in good condition. Typical head with dark eye giving that keen expression, well made front construction with plenty of body and depth. He has strongly muscled quarters with well developed first and second thigh, correct harsh, wiry coat. Not as footfall perfect as the BPIS on the wet grass.

BEST VETERAN IN SHOW

Robinson’s GRAVITY PULLS TO ROBINSTECK – (Boxer)

This boxer boy headed up a collection of quality veterans, I was spoilt for choice and had to split some hairs. His handsome masculine head was well balanced with clean skull and broad foreface, eyes were brown giving lively, intelligent expression. He carries the correct amount of body and condition with great muscle tone. Moved sound, with purpose holding himself well.

RESERVE BEST VETERAN IN SHOW

Gray’s CH JISGARD DAYDREAM BELIEVER – (Basenji)

This is a well balance female with typical breed type. She has a feminine head with dark eye of correct shape, small ears of good shape and carriage. Well made throughout, in fit condition and effortless sound movement, close up for BVIS.
