MID HERTS GUNDOG SOCIETY
27th October 2024
Judge. Mike Blay (Longbarrow)
It was an honour to be invited to judge Best in Show at this Premier Gundog Society. Many thanks go to
the hard working committee, to the exhibitors for bringing their dogs under me, and my fellow judges
for putting through an excellent line up for Best in Show.
Best in Show
1.Crocker & Lewis : Riverbrue Ophelia Winky JW. Irish Setter. D. What a cracking finale to the show, this
superb Irish heading the line up, super shape, cleanest of heads, long and lean and not coarse in any
way, correct length to his muscular neck, well laid shoulders, with blades sloping well back, good
deep brisket, straight forelegs, once I got my hand under his super coat I could feel his muscular body,
well sprung rib and short loin, super topline, firm and with a slight slope, but no exaggeration to it,
strong behind and stifles short and well bent, powerful on the move with lovely straight lines going
from and back towards. A real pleasure to award him BIS
2.Tasker : Zoldmali Ezmi (Imp SRB). Hun Wirehaired Viz. D. Wow, nothing flashy about this boy, honest
and true to the breed, classic head shape with a kind intelligent eye, strong neck set on well laid
shoulders, good depth to his well sprung rib, short coupled and moderately angulated behind, with a
good turn of stifle, best of harsh wiry coats, nothing flashy on the move, but effortless and showing
good drive behind and enough reach in front. Nothing out of place and pleased to give him RBIS
3.Weller : Sabisabi Apache Tonka at Geenawell. Am Cocker Sp. D. A smart dog of the correct shape
and size for the breed, clean head with good stop, eye of correct shape and melting expression, liked
his body shape, good shoulders, and straight in foreleg, plenty of rib under his coat, slight slope to
topline and short coupled, good angles to his rear quarters with well let down hocks, this allowed him
to stride around the ring with a beautiful flowing gait with which he held his topline. Powerful yet
elegant as my notes say.
4.McDonald, Westwood & Westwood : Roanjora Cremant De Savoie avec Eusanit. Ir Red & White
Setter. D. Nothing fussy about this young male. Good proportions to his head with pleasing eye, strong,
clean neck, well laid shoulders and good front assembly, just right amount of forechest and good
through rib, correct topline and in good coat, muscular behind, correct tailset. Free striding gait
showing good drive, maybe a little wayward, but showed enough to warrant his G4 placing.
Best Puppy in Show

the breed down. So mature for his age, beautiful head and expression, good neck and loved his shape

nothing exaggerated, found him in the best of coats today, super mover with strength and power that
belied his age, straight and true and with a level tail set all the way around the ring. Couldn’t deny him
