Banbury & District Canine Association

Firstly, I would like to express my gratitude to the Banbury and District Canine Association for inviting me to judge my beloved breed, the Boston Terrier. I also appreciate all the exhibitors who allowed me to evaluate their beloved and high-quality dogs. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to assess excellent examples of the breed, and I extend my thanks to all exhibitors who facilitated this. There were many moments where I faced difficult decisions due to the high quality in the ring, and all exhibits displayed admirable qualities and good health. I was particularly focused on assessing squareness in appearance and excellent movement, as well as correct temperament. I am pleased to say that I found success in this regard, but I would prefer to see temperament displayed a bit more. I don't mind repeating movement when they jump, or free stack is not perfect due to their correct alertness. Thank you to all exhibitors and to the lovely steward for creating a positive atmosphere

  • Puppy (1/1):
  • 1st Miss J. BARCLAY’S Boston Abbey Nico for Claymurf (Imp POL) (PB)
  • At 11 months old, this square-headed, wide-muzzled young dog presents a delightful expression, accentuated by correctly rounded eyes with distinct brows. His ears, thin and soft, are appropriately positioned near the corners of his skull. Exhibiting an adequate square scissor undershot, he boasts a slightly arched neck leading to well-muscled withers. While his chest is appropriate for his age, he carries a slightly longer loin, yet maintains a strong, level topline and a well-set tail. Demonstrating sturdy bone structure and well-formed feet, he moves adeptly under the guidance of his handler. His temperament is characterized as cheeky and flashy, a trait sought after in the breed.

  • Junior (1/2):
  • 1st Mrs C. & Mr I. M. GUNTHER’S Marann’s Indiana at Chrissigunus (RBOB)
  • This 13-month-old brindle female possesses a soft coat and a square head, complemented by a dark, well-sized eye that lends her an endearing expression when alert. Her proud demeanour showcases a correct and neatly groomed square scissor undershot. With small yet robust ears appropriately positioned near the corners of her skull, she boasts a commendable length of neck, strong withers, and straight forequarters, along with compact, cat-like paws. A slightly arched topline from loin to tail seton contributes to her pleasingly square body structure, enhanced by a short loin. Her movement is characterized by a moderate turn of stifle and straight, precise hooks, exhibiting both grace and precision.

  • Postgraduate (4/8):
  • 1st Miss D. SAMBROOK’S Ringablock King of Stars
  • At 18 months old, this well-muscled and balanced dog exudes a square, commanding presence. His square head, flat on the top, features a well-defined stop and exhibits a square scissor undershot, contributing to his desired square skull appearance. Dark, round eyes of appropriate size, paired with well-sized and correctly positioned ears, complete his harmonious facial structure. With a good length of neck, robust and well-developed front, including boned forearms and slightly turned-out strong pasterns, he presents a strong front profile. Maintaining a level topline in motion and a slightly arched stance when stacked, complemented by a well-set tail, his hindquarters are notably strong and well-proportioned, adorned with muscular definition and exhibiting a commendable turn of stifle. His movement is characterized by balance and ease, setting him apart from his competitors today.
  • 2nd Miss C. GRANGE’S Prince Ali Konfident Step to Bosties (Imp UKR)
  • At 21 months old, this brindle dog possesses a charming character and pleasing markings. Smaller and compact in size, he exhibits a nice type of square head with a well-proportioned muzzle and a well-defined stop, complemented by small, thin ears carried gracefully. His coat, soft to the touch, enhances his overall appeal. With a lovely expression characterized by rounded, appropriately sized eyes when alert, he presents a correct topline that is level yet slightly arched croup, coupled with a well-set tail and a short loin, contributing to his desired square appearance. His forelegs are strong and straight, leading down to sturdy pasterns and cat-like feet. Displaying a good width of chest and a commendable turn of stifle, he unfortunately exhibited a slightly elevated front movement on the day. Nevertheless, his brilliant temperament adds to his overall appeal.

  • Open (4/5)
  • 1st Miss D. SAMBROOK’S Esangee Your My Star (BOB)"
  • This four-year-old male immediately captivated me with his well-proportioned, square-shaped build. His broad head, featuring a wide square muzzle and rounded eyes, exuded a balanced charm. Notably, his tidy scissor undershot added to his square facial profile. With a nicely arched neck seamlessly joining his shoulders, he presented a compact and harmonious silhouette. Though his forequarters didn't spread as widely as the second-placed dog's when stacked, his movement was wide-ranging and elegant, boasting ample chest breadth. His short loin contributed to his pleasingly square body, while his muscular hindquarters, coupled with a moderate turn of stifle, provided power and agility. While a touch more display of temperament would be ideal, it's not necessarily a drawback in this impressive specimen.
  • 2nd Miss J. BARCLAY’S CH Jabbari Golden Image at Claymurf (Imp ZAF)"
  • This six-year-old female, with a square head and beautifully even markings, impressed with her responsiveness to her handler. Her dark, rounded eyes, set within a broad and square jawline, conveyed a charming expression. Notably, her cheeks were flat, and her ears were correctly placed and well-carried. While her undershot was adequate, her neck gracefully arched, and her forelegs presented a moderate width and straight pasterns. Her body boasted a commendable width of chest, though slightly longer in loin, maintaining a good level topline with a gently arched croup leading to the tail set. A lovely turn of stifle added to her overall structure. She moved with a fluid combination of ease and grace. Her temperament was pleasant, with an alert expression that added to her overall appeal.
