Salisbury & South Wilts Canine Society

Breed: Retriever (Golden)

I was pleased with my entry and despite a few absentees I had a good quality and well presented dogs to judge, which led to some hair splitting decisions in later classes.  Movement in most exhibits was good but some not so strong in the rear quarters.  I also found one bad mouth which I had to take into consideration when placing.

I was happy with my placings and was delighted to learn that my Best Puppy was later awarded Gundog Puppy Group 1 and then went on to be Reserve Best Puppy in Show.

1st   Jackson-Haines LEIGHSHAM THE CHEEKY ELF,  a perfectly balanced young man of 9 1/2 months, shown in well presented gold coat.  Gentle, but masculine head and expression with lovely dark eye.  Excellent reach of neck on to good shoulder placement.  Level topline with correct tailset.  Good front angulation with well boned, straight forelegs and well muscled rear quarters with nicely angled stifle and straight hocks.  He moved soundly, although a little exuberant to start but when settled I could not fault him.  A very happy boy with ever wagging tail.  Pleased to award him BP and he went on to be awarded Gundog Puppy Gp 1 and then on to RBP in Show.

2nd  Healey's MARSABIT CELTIC HARP, a lovely pale coated puppy of just 6 months,  with good proportions and good bone and I feel just right for her age.  Sweetest feminine head, with nice dark eye.  Good reach of neck on to good shoulder angulation.  Good topline and correct tailset. Slightly high on the rear but this will change as she grows and did not detract from her overall look.  She moved well around the ring for one so young.

2nd   Todd's VAN GOGH OF SUNSHINE'S VALLEY WITH TODDROSA (Imp BEL)JW.  Larger framed boy of almost 24 months.  Lovely masculine head and expression with dark eye and pigment.  Good reach of neck down to good shoulder placement.  Good front angulation,  nicely boned straight forelegs.  Level topline with good tailset.  Good well muscled rear quarters, well angulated stifle and straight hocks.  Moved out well, with drive.  On the stand he has a tendency to overstretch himself which throws off his outline.
