I would like to thank the officers and committee of Lothian Canine Club for giving me the opportunity to judge at this excellent show. The venue was perfect and the organisation of the committee and volunteers meant that the show ran like clockwork. I was made to feel welcome by all the committee and officers. A big thank you to my efficient stewards who kept the ring running smoothly.

Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers

1st Mrs D Macgregor Kirktonhill, What Its Not JW. 7yr old Female in excellent condition. Correct head and stop with a powerful appearance yet remaining feminine. Correct size and set of ear carriage, using them well. Straight forelegs and deep chest giving a pleasing overall picture from front aspect. Side aspect again all in proportion with strong rear hind quarters. Moved out well, bouncy at times but with good reach and plenty of drive. Soft Coat and correct tail set. Best of Breed.

Airedale Terrier

1st Mrs J Graham, Shadlian Heavens Dream At Thistleaire JW, Cracking 2 years old female. Correct head in good proportions, correct eye and ear set reflecting all her keen and smart character . Correct front, straight and balanced. Good deep chest and rib giving a strong balanced profile. Correct stifle, well muscled hindquarters and parallel. Tail of correct set and carriage. Lovely movement with reach and drive, very balanced. Good coat texture, of correct colour and markings. Best of Breed and went on to achieve my 4th in the terrier group.

2nd Mr D Bain, Muliebrity Touch of Gold. 10 month female developing nicely and showing lots of promise. Good head, well balanced and in correct proportions. Dark eye and correctly set. Ears are correct although slightly heavier than the first. Correct shoulder, front and in good proportions throughout.

3rd Mrs R Burns, Balchraggan Rock Whitebeam

1st Miss E Polanek, Birselaw Morris Dancer, 2yr old male. Unsettled initially due to a balloon in an adjacent ring but once sorted he settled well. Presented in excellent condition. Head in good proportions with well defined stop. Correct ears, set well and carried erect, good dentition. In good proportions throughout and moved out with reach and drive. Preferred the front of the open winner to be pipped for Best of Breed.

2nd Mr F Hutchinson, Sparklekairn Oh What A Boy. Lovely 12 month male, just out of puppy. Showing lots of character. Good harsh coat and in excellent condition. Developing well and showing lots of promise.

1st Ms H Young, Furythor Orion. 2.5yr male, beautifully presented and good in all breed points. Balanced throughout and his correct pleasing movement reflected this. Correct eye, ears, well set shoulder placement and perfect front. Could not find any faults on this boy, Best of Breed and went on to win my Terrier Group 1.

1st Mrs J Burnside, Belle De Jour. 3 year old female. Settled well once she had her familiar handler at the helm. What a smart girl she is, shown in excellent condition. My notes start with ‘beautiful’, true terrier characteristics. Correct head with correct eye and perfect ear presentation, set well and correctly carried. She is not exaggerated in any way.

2nd Mrs J Burnside, Rickarton Belle Starr. 6yr old female – I note she is the dam of the 1st. Correct front, nice deep chest. All in proportion and handled well, preferred the rear quarters of 1st.

Fox Terrier (smooth)

1st Mrs E Henderson. Thunderclap Maccoist At Finleric. 14month old male, a lovely boy in good condition. He is compact in appearance with a correct head and ear set. Straight front, compact appearance and moved well. Shown to perfection. Best of Breed.

Parson Russell Terrier

1st Miss J Young & P Mccluskey, Chadbrook Elka VW. Super 7 year old girl in excellent condition. Pleasing head, in all correct proportions. Correct eye and ear placement, framing a pleasing correct presentation. Correct length of neck, settling well into a well laid back shoulder. Body and rear quarters all balanced, reflecting correct movement with plenty of drive. One of the best handled terriers of the day, she is clearly well schooled and she was shown to perfection. Best of Breed.

Jack Russell Terriers

1st J Clayton Northdrum Highland Gold. 11 month old female, well constructed and lovely head. Correct ear and eye. Well placed shoulders and excellent front. Moved out well.

2nd Miss J Young & P Mccluskey, Chadbrook Arran. 8 month male. This was such a hard decision between the 2.

 Lovely handsome male with correct head in perfect proportions and correct ear set and carriage. Correct depth of chest for such a youngster and he is developing nicely. Moved well.

1st Miss J Young & P Mccluskey Totgrees Hendrick To Chadbrook. 2 year old male presented well and handled to perfection. Correct to breed size and all in proportion. Correct head and lovely set and held ears. Excelled in all quarters and with correct angulation and no exaggeration. Great coat. Best of Breed and went on to be placed 3rd overall in my terrier group.

2nd J Clayton & J Clayton Glendream Maple Moon At Northdrum. 20month old female, beautiful well proportioned head with correct eye and ear. Correct size and quarters all balanced reflecting lovely movement both striding out and on return.

3rd Miss J Young & P Mccluskey O’Mare Mio Delle Syrenuse Of Chadbrook (Imp IT)

1st Miss J Young & P Mccluskey, Chadbrook Astrid. 2 year old female with correct head and lovely well set ears. Correct front with balance proportion and plenty of drive on the move. Deeper in chest than the 2nd but still in good proportion. Correct harsh coat with enough pelt.

2nd Miss A Lawrence and Miss M Scrimgeour, Comalegy The Countess With Fiadhaich. 15month female. Correct head presentation and lovely well set ears. Nice correct straight front. Taller in leg but remains in proportion. Lovely movement and handled well.

Limit (2 entries /1 absent)

1st Malcolm, Glen and Knowles Liatch Tenacious JW 21 month old female. Plenty of substance on this well presented female, giving a picture of balance when in profile and good movement. Correct head with good proportions of skull and muzzle. Ears of correct shape and slightly heavier than some of the other exhibits but this did not distract from her overall balance. Correct depth of chest and with correct amount of rib to allow her to do the job. Straight front and good angulation overall. Best of Breed

3 super exhibits all with differing qualities- this was my hardest class of the show.

1st Miss C Macgregor Chadbrook Torsten. 2 year old male. Lovely pleasing masculine head with good proportions and strength of muzzle. Correct ear size and set well. His body is well balanced and in proportion. Moved out well.

2nd Malcolm, Glen and Knowles, Sweet Ebony Princess At Liatch. Loved the head on this girl, typical otter profile with strength of muzzle and correct width of skull. Level topline and profile when standing and when on the move.

3rd Mrs I Nicol , Upend Country Lad At Jacraila. A super dog, larger in body however he pushed hard but sadly I could only give 1 of these three the 1st place.

Staffordshire Bull Terriers

Post Graduate (5 present /0 absent)

1stG &T Owen, Tagstane Forever Fuchsia. 11 month old female. Correct head for size and shape, with rose ears. Muscular but remains feminine. Solid and well proportioned overall, correct for size and good front with just correct about of width and depth, with correctly angulated rear. Moved well and parallel which gave her the edge both in the class and in the challenge for Best of Breed.

2nd Mr G Addison Hammystaff Shape Of You At Guyad. Another young female, smaller in head than first but all in proportion. Excellent Body type and still some maturing to do. Handled well.

1st Sinclair and Hayward Glenskyra Lomond Lad . 18 month dog with lots of redeeming qualities. Handled well and in excellent condition. Gives an appearance of balance whilst remaining strong. He is all in proportion. Correct width of front chest and moved well. He is the correct size.

2nd Nelson and Nelson Tagstane Worth the Wait. 5 yr old male with good proportions, strong head and plenty of bone and muscle. Moved and handled well.

1st Miss P & Mrs J Clayton. Nisyros Rigatoni For Lokilake (Lakeland terrier)

Have to say that this young male has so much ring presence that despite standing alone he was more than worthy of the Best AVNSC, he went on to achieve my 2nd in the overall Terrier Group. Presented in excellent condition and shown to perfection by his handler. Correct head shape and in proportion, ears carried well giving an overall tidy handsome picture. Perfect shoulder and front, correct neck that flowed into his shoulder and giving a sharp clear profile. Well muscled reflecting in correct movement. I really thought he would be my best terrier and pushed hard, but lost out to the Cairn for TG1.
