Lichfield Canine Society 7.1.24

I was delighted with my breed supported entry and thank all exhibitors for accepting my decisions in a sporting manner. My very able ring stewards were fantastic and assisted in a professional manner.

Basset Hounds

Puppy (1)

1st Seddon’s Dalpatricks Top Gun at Sedonia

I found lots to like about this 9 month old tricolour male. He is mature and balanced with good substance. He has a lovely outgoing temperament and showed well. His topline is good with a broad back and well laid back shoulders. I liked his head shape which was domed and with the correct pronounced occiput and complimented by long, low set ears. Shown in great condition and well handled. He stood alone today but is a very promising puppy. Best Puppy in Breed.

Junior (5, 2 abs)

1st Pearson’s Armardio Candle in the Wind

This pretty 17 month old blanket red and white bitch really impressed me. She has substance without being overdone in any way. I found her to be feminine with a quality that could not be ignored. I liked her head which is domed with the correct stop, low set ears that hang low and a tapered muzzle with a nice length of flew. Her front is well filled in and she stands on well knuckled and padded feet. Absolutely fit for function she was shown in great condition and was well muscled. On the move, she is very sound and has good reach and drive. Lost out on maturity to the Open class winner who I later found out was her litter sister.

2nd Strudwick’s Armardio Ride Like the Wind Among Kumamatata

Litter brother to 1, also red and white. This 17 month male has significant substance and is balanced. He has excellent bone and is long and deep in body. His ribs are well sprung and rounded and he has a broad, strong back. I really liked his front assembly and powerful short front legs. His rear is good with well bent stifles, correct tailset and carriage. For me, would prefer him to be slightly more refined to complete an otherwise lovely picture.

3rd Melbourne & Murray’s Diheath Treacle Tart

Post Graduate (3, 1 abs)

1st Pearson’s Armardio Candle in the Wind

2nd Ledward’s Drawdell’s Songster

This tricolour bitch of 2 years comes in a larger package throughout than 1. Her head is heavier than 1’s but has lots to like including a kind, dark eye, nicely set on low leathers and a strong jaw. She has a super temperament and moved well for her change of handler. On the move she has lovely reach and carried her topline well.

Open (4, 1 abs)

1st Pearson’s Armardio Wind of Change JW

Litter sister to the Junior and Post Graduate class winner and she has the same virtues. For me, she was the completed package and showed more maturity today. Another with a beautiful temperament, she was a picture to watch in profile where she moved out with great reach and drive. She too is feminine with a rather lovely shaped head, correct pronounced occiput and a smashing depth to her flew. I loved her front assembly with a prominent chestbone, nice depth of chest and well rounded ribs. She has a good ground clearance allowing her to move freely. On the stack she filled my eye oozing balance and screaming ‘Basset’. Shown in cracking condition, I was delighted to award her Best of Breed.

2nd Melbourne & Murray’s Diheath Elvis

This 3 year red and white bitch was heavier through than 1 and stood a little bum high on the stack today. I found her to be pretty, feminine and of a nice type. She has the correctly shaped eye which is dark and shaped like a lozenge. Her low set ears, hung correctly and had the desirable curl. She has a tidy front with well laid back shoulders. There is just enough neck. Another with pleasing ground clearance and a great depth of chest.
