Devon County Show

16/05/2024

I would firstly like to thank the committee for the invitation to judge at their premier open show. The hospitality was first class, and the sunshine even made an appearance.

Swedish Vallhund

Post Graduate (3)

1. Ellis, KIMAROFFS SIDNEY. 2.5 year old male. With the most beautiful of heads, very masculine without being over done. The darkest of eyes giving a lovely expression. Strong body of great substance and the correct level topline. Best mover of the class. RBOB.

2. Howe, VALALLER THE PHOTOGRAPHER. 15 month old alert male. A nice head piece, but eyes a little round in shape. Correct flat skull with enough cheek creating a lovely wedge shape. Strongly built body with a good level topline and short loin. Moved okay on the rear.

3. Biss, VALALLER STRIKE A POSE.

Open (4,2)

1. Biss, VALALLER RAINMAKER. 5 year old bitch. A lovely bitch who screamed “Vallhund” as soon as I saw her. Beautiful head, which was well filled yet still feminine. Correct dark expressive eyes of oval shape. Correct set and size of ears giving a delightful expression. Well built all through with enough substance for a bitch, to be able to work all day long. Good length of neck into the correct lay of shoulder. Good depth of chest and well sprung ribcage into a short and strong loin. Great angles all round, giving her the ability to move with purpose in all directions. Showed well and extremely alert throughout the class. Best Of Breed.

2. Hackney, STARVON ALL ABOUT ME. 8 year old dog and unfortunately showing his age in his topline. Masculine head with correct muzzle to skull ratios. Good dark eye. Strong body and correct angulation. Moved well.

Pyrenean Mountain Dog

All dogs were immaculately turned out and all had the correct double dew claws present.

Post Graduate (3,2)

1. Downes, BELSHANMISH NIGHT FEVER. 2.5 year old male of good size and general outline. A lovely head of correct proportions and dark eye. Nothing over done. A level topline into a good set and length of tail with good angles all through. Would like to see him again in a year or so to see him filled out in body a little more. Moved well when settled.

Open (6,3)

1. Downes, BELSHANMISH OCEAN SOUL. The most beautiful 2.5 year old bitch who had everything I was looking for. A feminine head with right amount of stop. Good amount of fill under eyes, creating the desired blunt wedge shape. Tight lips and correct mouth. Eyes of the right shape and colour that you could get lost in. Lovely length of neck into the correct lay of shoulders. Straight, well boned legs into tight feet. Deep, well developed chest, ribs extending well back with a short loin, giving a real impression of ultimate balance. With the right amount of rear angulation which meant she was able to really drive around the ring. Well let down hocks. And completing the picture with a spectacular, top quality coat. Best of Breed, and pleased to see her shortlisted in a large group.

2. Thorne, BELSHANMISH NEW SENSATION AT PYRAJAY JW. 3 year old bitch, much finer throughout compared to the class winner, but many of the same virtues apply. A good head, which is unmistakenly female. A lovely level topline, which was muscular, slightly longer in loin than 1, but she’s still very balanced. Moved well when settled. A really super outline on the stack. Reserve Best of Breed.

3. Woolf, SABRE GOLDEN TICKETDU PYRDANTI (IMP FRA).
