York Canine Association Members Limited Show 2/3/24

 Thank you to the officers & committee for inviting me to judge their Limit Show. Thanks also to all the exhibitors for making it a very enjoyable day and to Colleen & Ann, stewards for the day for keeping everything flowing so well.

AVNSC Veteran: 8 (4) 1 -Winup’s & Paipala’s ROGANSROCK LUCKY CHARM. 7 ½ year old Whippet. (B) Loved the outline of this bitch. Long & lean head, small fine ears. Elegant reach of neck. Well-muscled back with nice rise over loin. Good bend of stifle. Nice tight feet with well arched toes. Free & easy movement. Was very pleased she was BVIS. 2- Fox’s LEWHARLE IZZADORABLE FOR LYNMILY. 10 year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (B) A very pretty bitch who is not showing her age. Lovely expression. Head & skull in proportion. Well feathered ears and good dark eyes. Moderate neck flows into well laid back shoulders. Moderate bone. Good feathering on feet & tail. Moved well around the floor. RBVIS. 3- Harrison’s KENTIXEN THE CHASE FOR HARRIDACHS – Dachshund – Min Smoothed Haired(B)

AVNSC Gundog Puppy 5 (1) 1- Lovatt & Gettings BEECHILLAWN BREAK THE MOULD (IKC) (TAF). 8 month old German Wirehaired Pointer. (D) This dog caught my eye in the initial line up. Strong looking dog that looks like he could do a day’s work. Moderately broad head with moderate stop. Skull & muzzle of equal length. Good dark oval eyes. Strong in jaw with correct scissor bite. In proportion throughout. Deep chest with well sprung ribs. Really nice harsh coat. Correct rear angulation. On the move covered the ground well. 2- Holgate’s HODGEHALL DON’T STOP ME NOW.

8 month old Irish Red & White (D) This boy gave 1 a run for his money. Lovely outline. Head broad, slightly square in shape. Typical of the breed. Clean neck moderately long. Strong in body with deep chest. Good hindquarters with well bent stifle. Strong in hock. Tight feet. Well feathered tail. In great coat condition. Was far better on the move second time around and was extremely well handled by his young handler. 3 – Trevelyan’s REMINGTON RAINBOWS END – Flat Coated Retriever (B)

AVNSC Gundog Post Graduate: 6 (2) 1-Bright’s SIERRASALVAS CALABAZA 16 month old Spanish Water Dog. (B) No mistaking this breed. Gave a lovely outine. Strong head, medium oval shaped eyes that were very expressive. Strong jaw with correct scissor bite. Moderate reach of neck flowing into level back. Deep chest with nice spring of rib. Strong in leg without being too heavy. Typical coat full of curls. Moved with forceful drive. 2- Casey’s TIGERROCK LIT DE ROSES WITH WILLOWMEANA – 3 year old Welsh Springer Spaniel (B) This lady was very nice in profile. Head in proportion, slightly domed. Square in muzzle. Correct bite. Good dark eyes. Lovely long neck, clean in throat. Body in proportion, deep brisket with well sprung ribs. Good muscle in rear. Nice tight feet. Lovely silky texture to coat with moderate feathering on legs and tail. Moved from the rear very well. 3 – Trevelyan’s GLOI DUBH JENNIFER JUNIPER – Flat Coated Retriever (B)

AVNSC Gundog Open: 3 (2) Casey’s TIGERROCK STRIKE A POSE – 6 year old English Springer Spaniel (B). Lovely rich colour coat on this bitch. Looks good in outline. Medium length broad skull with well defined stop. Strong in muzzle. Nice dark almond eyes. Good length of ear that are nicely feathered. Strong neck with slight arch. Well boned. Level back with slight rise over loin. Strong muscular rear end. Tight compact feet. Moved with drive.

AVNSC Hound Puppy 1 (1)

AVNSC Hound Post Graduate 5 (0) 1- Harrison’s HARRIDACHS CHERRY BLOSSOM. 2 year old Dachshund Min Smoothed Haired (B). A dog with great presence. Keen, alert expression. Moderaltely long body with nice tapered head when looked from the side. Medium shaped dark almond eyes that gave her a lovely expression. Deep breastbone, level back with slightly arched loin. Well laid back ribs. Moved with purpose, driving from behind. Deep red shaded coat in excellent condition and oozes character. 2 – Winup & Paipala’s ROGANSROCK HARVEST MOON 3yr old Whippet (D). A difficult decision between 1 & 2. This lemon brindle boy had a very elegant outline.

Long, lean flat head, bright oval eyes and long elegant arched neck. Well laid back shoulders. Straight upright in bone. Very deep chest. Long back with good muscle coverage. Well defined tuck up. Moved very well for handler. 3 – Fekete & Pearce’s NAGYHEGYI PAJKOS TAYLORS OF HARROGATE (Imp Hun) Basset Hound (D)

AVNSC Hound Open 5 (2) 1- DEMERLAY EBONY EYES 18 month old Whippet (B) brindle bitch.

Loved this bitche’s head with dark mask. Very feminine and elegant. Clean cut head, long & lean. Oval, bright eyes. Correct scissor bite. Long arched neck. Deep chested with well defined tuck up. Strong in back with well spring ribs. Good rear angulation. Free and easy movement whilst holding her topline. 2 – Winup & Paipala’s PAGARNI IT’S SNOW JOKE CUM ROGANSROCK 4 year old Whippet (B) Another lovely brindle bitch with dark head with white mask. Good head of correct proportions and long arched neck. Deep chest with firm well muscled back. Ribs well sprung. Moved really well too and was hard to decide between the two placings. 1 just had slightly better movement on the day. 3 – Turner’s MOONFLEUR SWEET WILLIAM Whippet (D)

AVNSC Pastoral Puppy: 3 (2) 1- Weightman’s DEBBEACOL IT’S NOW OR NEVER 11 month old Bearded Collie (B) This little lady stood out in her quality. Everything in proportion & not overdone. Broad flat skull, strong in muzzle with moderate stop. Eyes in tone with coat colouring. Moderate length of neck flowing into well laid back shoulders. Good strong bone front & rear, well muscled. Oval, well padded feet. Lovely double coat. Calm, smooth movement covering the ground well. Very pleased to award her BPIS

AVNSC Pastoral Post Graduate: 7 (2) 1- Brown’s SHEPWOOD GAZING AT KLOUDS 13 month old Australian Shepherd (B) This bitch catches the eye when she comes into the ring. Deep rich blue merle colouring. Slightly longer than tall of moderate bone. Correct head planes with moderate stop. Expressive eyes and moderate triangular ears sitting high on side of head. Really good in front angulation, with strong, level topline and well sprung ribs. Moderate tuck up. Good angulation in stifles. Well muscled throughout. Compact feet. In great coat condition. Moved very well and at the correct speed. Pleased to award her RBIS 2- Ellwood’s ELLHAR CHIEF SCOUT Welsh Pembroke Corgi. A very pleasing Black Tri Dog. Lovely keen, alert facial expression. Head ‘foxy’ in shape with well set medium sized eyes. Strong jaw with correct bite. Short straight legs and of good bone. Strong in body with broad chest & level topline. Tight, oval feet. Moved very well with purpose. 3 – Fox’s GOWERSTON GRANVILLE Welsh Cardigan Corgi

AVNSC Pastoral Open 6 (4) 1- Chance’s GOYTRE CHANCE TO REFLECT Border Collie (D) 3 ½ year all male dog. Top quality dog. Lovely head with broad skull, distinct stop and strong muzzle. Keen alert expression. Good length of neck. Parallel legs front & rear. Strong bone. Deep chest with well sprung ribs. Body slightly longer than tall. Moved well but I think he may need a bigger ring to work to his advantage. 2 – ELLHAR OLGA’S PRINCESS - 4 YEAR OLD Welsh Pembroke Corgi (B) Feminine bitch with lovely facial expression. Foreface in proportion to skull with well set round eyes. Pricked, slightly rounded ears. Moderate in body with level topline. Deep chest. Strong bone on short legs.

Moved very well around the ring and loved her ‘sassy’ attitude.

AVNSC Terrier Puppy: 1 (0) – Copping’s JAEVA MOON PILOT FOR RUTAARO 8 month old Jack Russell Terrier (D). This dog is full of character. Bold, fearless & friendly. Looks good in profile. Slightly longer than tall. Head in proportion to body. Strong in muzzle. Correct almond shaped eyes and button ears. Well boned forelegs but doesn’t look heavy. Girth behind elbows is spannable. Good rear angulation with well muscled hind quarters. High set tail which was carried straight up. Correct coat texture. Once settled moved really well with good drive from behind.

AVNSC Terrier Post Graduate: 2 (0)1 – Swain’s BORDERRUSH CLEMENTINE FOR ARDENHOLME 19 month old Border Terrier (B) Liked how this bitch concentrated on her handler. Lovely otter head with strong short muzzle. Dark eyes giving a keen, alert expression. Moderate length of neck. Straight in front with moderate bone. Narrow long body, could be spanned. Carried tail well. Good harsh coat. Moved comfortably around the ring and could probably go all day. Pleased to give her 1st place in Special Beginners Stakes also. 2 – Thornbury’s SWEET OLIVES GIRL 3 year old Border Terrier (B) Another bitch with a lovely expression. Nice otter head with dark eyes. Small ears that dropped forward. Correct scissor bite. Moderate neck. Legs moderately boned. Body could be spanned. In good coat. She too moved very well I just liked the overall picture of 1 better.

AVNSC Terrier Open 1 (0) 1 – Swain’s BORDERRUSH CLEMENTINE FOR ARDENHOLME – as 1st in Post Graduate.

AVNSC Toy Puppy – 3 (3)

AVNSC Toy Post Graduate 2 (0) 1 – Foster’s PRINCE VALENTINO 2 year old Maltese (D) Smart looking boy with lovely head carriage. Skull well rounded with well defined stop. Black nose. Short body with good spring of rib. Legs short & straight. Tail well feathered and carried well over the back. Moved round the ring very well. 2 – Foster’s TOMARI SNOW WHITE BELLE 1 year old Maltese.

A very close call between these two dogs but the movement of 1 won the class. This young dog had a lovely outline and her coat was in grand condition. Lovely dark eye & correct head to body ratio.

Well balanced. Good rear angulation. Pure white coat of correct length. She seemed a little distracted on the move today but could easily change places with 1.

AVNSC Toy Open 2 (1) Fox’s BRYMARDEN SCARLET FOR LYNMILY 2 year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (B) Lovely gentle expression on this dog. In proportion. Large dark eyes, Long ears that are well feathered. Correct bite. Short in body with level topline. Stood parallel. Compact, well feathered feet. Long silky Blenheim coat. Moved free with an elegant action. A very happy girl!

AVNSC Utility Puppy 3 (2) 1- Parker’s DAWNBLOOM STARGAZER Standard Poodle (B) 8 month old.

A little nervous today but hope she had a pleasant experience and her confidence goes from strength to strength. She has a lovely outline. Looks well balanced and elegant. Good length of neck.

Deep chested. She moved really well around the ring. I am sure she will get there.

AVNSC Utility Post Graduate. 2 (0) – a really difficult class as both were very good dogs. 1- Mhatre’s ALCHEZ AFTER THE STORM 3 year old Black & White Shih Tzu. A dog that has an abundant coat and a distinctly characteristic ‘chrysanthemum’ like face. Broad head with square short muzzle. Large round dark eyes. Nicely arched neck flowing into well laid back shoulders. Short muscular legs with decent bone. Level back with a broad and deep chest. Tail carried well over the back. Moved with purpose with a free flowing action showing rear pads. 2 – Adgo’s ZAHARIAM BONNY BLOSSOM AT DAWNBLOOM 4 year old Apricot Standard Poodle (B) This bitch looked very stylish in outline. Long & fine in head. Well chiselled face with tight fitting lips. Head & body in proportion. Good length of neck with clean throat. Deep chest with well sprung round ribs. Strong back. Well muscled in the hindlegs. Tight feet and strong pasterns. Covered the ground with a free and easy movement with plenty of drive.

AVNSC Utility Open – 1 (1) Moore & Casentieri’s EMERSON ALPUI SLENIS OF ALCHEZ JW ShCEx OSW (Imp LTU) 3 year old Shih Tzu. (D) Another quality dog with distinct outline in profile. Sturdy dog with long dense coat. Broad head with lovely large dark eyes. Large long ears that blend in with coat. Good arch to neck. Longer than tall with deep chest. Strong in bone. Moved around the ring with presence driving from the rear.

AVNSC Working Puppy 4 (1) 1- Bell’s CLEON CANIS GIGANOTOS 11 month old Leonberger. What a great puppy! Definitely lives up to the breed standard of being confident, calm & lively. Large boy with head in balance with body. Skull in proportion to muzzle. Deep set eyes, dark in colour with close fitting lids. Strong neck flowing into well laid back shoulders. Good strong bone. Broad, deep chest along with broad loin. Slight tuck up. Well rounded & tight feet. Good double coat of correct texture and nice feathering on legs. For a big dog, his movement was really ground covering and at a decent pace whilst keeping a level topline. Pushed hard for BPIS but was just pipped at the end. Happy to give him RBPIS 2 – Burgess’s KATABATICS DARK KNIGHT 10 month old Alaskan Malamute (D) This dogs gives a really good outline in profile. Heavily boned and powerfully built. Broad in head. Muzzle well defined. Almond shaped eyes. Ears small and correct shape set at back of skull. Strong jaws with correct scissor bite. Heavily boned in legs and well muscled. Strong in pasterns. A powerful body with deep chest & level topline. Tail carried correctly. An abundance of coat in great condition. Still a baby in a large body but once settled moved extremely well & was well handled.

AVNSC Working Post Graduate: 1 (0) Baileys PRIMUS PARTY LIKE GATSBY 2 year old Fawn Great Dane. This dog may have stood alone in the class but oozed elegance. Looked stunning in profile. Length of head in proportion to height of dog. Flat skull, face well chiselled. Foreface long and equal in depth. Strong in jaw. Lovely well arched long neck. Muscular shoulders and hindquarters. You can see the strength in this dog. Very deep chest, ribs well sprung and slight tuck up. In great condition.

Moved up and around the ring with great ease with that proud head carriage. I am sure this dog has a very bright future ahead of him. It was my great pleasure to award him BIS

AVNSC Working Open – 1 (1) Fox’s BRITESPARKE NORMAN MOON 4 year old Boxer (D) Very male in stature. Broad in head & muzzle. Well defined stop. Correctly undershot lower jaw curving slightly forward. Dark eyes. Lovely long reach of neck. Square in body length with a deep chest. Slightly sloping topline. Well muscled throughout. Tail set high & in proportion to rest of dog. Moved well with good reach and drive.
