South West Hound Club Monday 1st April 2024 Basenji Open (2,1) 1. Clinton’s Akmar Napatan Gold for Westlawn. 15 month old bitch. A lovely bitch who I judged a couple of months ago in the AVNSC classes at an Open show and eventually awarded her the Hound Group. I will not repeat my critique from that show but confirm that, unsurprisingly, she still pleased me on the day despite standing alone. Intent on giving her handler a hard time, she displays a most typical swinging stride once she settles. BOB. Basset Griffon Vendeen (Petit) Special Yearling (3,1) 1. Cadmore’s Soletrader Splish Splash. 6 month old bitch. A most delightful, happy puppy who must definitely have a bright future! Well balanced head with beautiful dark eyes and well set ears. Excellent proportions and construction throughout. Super sound on the move. BPIB. 2. Granum & Cadmore’s Soletrader Prue Leith. 6 month old bitch. Litter sister to 1 and very easy to see, indeed they share many qualities. I found this bitch slightly longer cast than her sister and on the day, she was definitely emphasising the ‘extrovert’ clause of the breed standard on the move, but a quality puppy nonetheless. Basset Griffon Vendeen (Petit) Open (2) I was grateful to be able to judge these two quality bitches and was not surprised to see they both carry the Champion title. Very difficult to split but in the end, I preferred the size and front action of 1. 1. Allenby’s Ch Soletrader Fun Times for Rangali JW. 2 year old bitch. Liked the size and femininity of this bitch. Beautiful head, eye and expression, could have a touch more length of neck. Ever so slightly better in shoulder than 2 and balanced upper arm. Well ribbed, short in loin and a firm level topline. Would like a touch more rear angulation. Thought she was an excellent mover in all directions holding a firm topline at all times. BOB. 2. Cadmore & Major’s Ch Soletrader Flora Good Time. 3 year old bitch. An up to size bitch but excellent proportions and presents a super outline. Lovely head and eye and scored over 1 in neck length. Well angled front and rear, particularly liked her strength and angulation in hindquarters over 1. Positive hind action and goes extremely well in profile holding her outline, but could be firmer coming towards. Finnish Spitz Open (1) 1. Rolfe’s Saisaaren Salmiakki via Valokki (Imp Fin). 3 year old dog. A quality dog of good proportions being up on the leg and compact in body. Completely balanced in angulation. Masculine head and moderate neck. Could have been more settled and together on the move but sound. BOB. Luke Johnston
