Hound Breeds and Groups
Rhodesian Ridgeback Open (4,2)
1. Kirby & Mansfield’s Shingwidsi Tsholo Light. 2 year old dog who appealed a lot for his balance and proportions. Good for size and undoubtedly masculine in head with a lovely expression. Well made throughout, though I’d say still not finished in body. Moved soundly in all directions. BOB & Hound Group 2.
2. Raymond’s Sofala Raffaello (AI). 7 month old dog. Still very much a baby but has lots of scope both standing and moving. Super length of neck into well laid shoulders. Will strengthen behind in time hopefully. Excellent stride in profile. BP & Hound Puppy Group 2
Saluki Open (2)
1. Smithson’s Silvershadows Zelfa Elessar Odi Et Amo. 2 year old bitch. The more moderate and typical example of the two in this class. Lovely feminine head with good strength of underjaw. Typical outline and moderately balanced in angulation. Moved ok. BOB.
2. Smithson’s Sunnusteins Safaniyah Jamiil Chisobee (Imp ISL). Upstanding with a masculine head held on a long neck. A touch long through the body. Excellent hind quarters. Preferred the freedom of movement of this dog but the more moderate look of 1 tipped the scales in her favour.
Borzoi Open (1)
1. Logvinenko’s Ryazan Vladimir. 4 year old male. Long, lean head with good strength of underjaw. Very attractive outline thanks to his excellent balance and proportions, but I wouldn’t mind if there just a little bit more of him all through. Impressed on the move, very light on his feet with good footfall. BOB and Hound Group 4.
Dachshund (Miniature Smooth-Haired) Junior (2)
1. Corfield’s Russetcopse’s Toffee Apple. 12 month old bitch. Excellent proportions and ground clearance. Feminine head and correct eye shape and expression. Ok in front. Excellent topline. Active and sound on the move.
2. Wood’s Bruno Boy Grey. Just 6 months and very much a baby in both mind and body. Masculine head with good length throughout and strength to muzzle. Super temperament but having too much fun to be able to assess movement. BP.
Dachshund (Miniature Smooth-Haired) Post Graduate (3)
1. Lewis’ Trixhund Bumblebee. 2 year old bitch. Lovely feminine head with good eye and expression. Would like a touch more neck. Excellent for forechest and length of rib but could have a touch more ground clearance. Better for size over 2. A little wide moving away but true coming towards and went well in profile. RBOB.
2. Beechey’s Beachdax Beechey’s Girl. Almost 2 year old bitch. Up to size and wouldn’t want any more weight. She has a very smooth and typical outline. Excellent hindquarters of good angulation and width of thigh. Beautiful glossy coat. Moved well.
3. Wood’s Bruno Boy Grey.
Dachshund (Miniature Smooth-Haired) Open (4)
1. Beach’s Beachdax Sweet Melody JW. Elegant and classy bitch. Super leg length and ground clearance, though wouldn’t want her any longer in body. Well shaped head, lengthy neck set smoothly into a good front. Holds a very good outline. Super mover, sound with an excellent stride. BOB and Hound Group 3.
2. Lewis’ Trixhund Miss Honey. Litter sister to the winner of the last class and easy to see, very similar in make and shape. Good size and moved well but couldn’t match 1.
3. Rose’s Pennydach Mystique at Rosencrantz.
Dachshund (Miniature Long-Haired) Junior (1)
1. Latham-Jackson’s Urishay Nell Gwyn. Just 6 months old and such a baby. Delightful temperament! Lovely head and expression. Balanced in angulation fore and aft. Good feet. Moved really well for one so young, very sound. BP.
Dachshund (Miniature Long-Haired) Open (2,1)
1. Latham-Jackson’s Hanishan Neapolitan Urishay. 2 year old dog. Undoubtedly masculine, in fact I wouldn’t want any more of him. Lovely head shape and proportions. Very good neck and front. Went on a free and easy stride holding his outline. BOB.
Dachshund (Miniature Wire-Haired) Junior (3,1)
1. Beach & Partridge’s Cardaxians Bambam Baby. BOB, BP & Hound Puppy Group 4.
2. Rose’s Barratini Song And Dance with Rosencrantz.
One of the most difficult decisions of the day splitting these two, each appealed for different reasons. 1 won on movement, proportions and hind construction in the end but he is up to size and needs to fill out in body. Really liked the head of 2, and she had a slightly better front but would like much better hindquarters standing and moving.
Dachshund (Smooth-Haired) Post Graduate (1)
1. Stark’s Gobannium Made Of Honour. 10 month old red bitch. Liked her head and neck. Excellent front. Rather forward in body for her age, though could have done with a touch less weight perhaps. Super feet. Sound mover, just needs to come together with age.
Dachshund (Smooth-Haired) Open (1)
1. Stark’s Gobannium Gladys Friday. Litter sister to the winner of Post Graduate, and so easy to see. Another very well constructed bitch, with a touch more ground clearance than her sister which I preferred. Very clean through the neck and shoulder, though hasn’t quite got the feet of her sister. Super ribbing. A touch narrow coming towards but otherwise a very nice mover. Good temperament. BOB and BP.
Dachshund (Long-Haired) Post Graduate (3,2)
1. Fricker’s Sundayshill Theodore at Borzdac. 17 month old dog. Masculine head with dark eyes of the correct shape. Good body proportions and ground clearance. Fair front and ribbing. Super hindquarters. Held himself really well on the move, free and with good drive. BOB.
Beagle Junior (3)
1. Evans’ Bellvalley Epsom Gold. 6 month old tan and white dog. This young dog impressed me a lot for one so young, he is rather forward for his age and very together. Sturdy and compact, masculine and well off for bone. Excellent head and expression. Well made all through and was sound in all directions moving on a loose lead holding his outline. Pushed hard for a spot in the adult group. BOB, BP & Puppy Group 1.
2. Sutton’s Rossut Banter. Another attractive youngster of good size and type. Not quite the head, front or topline of 1. Well bodied and super hindquarters. Moved well.
3. Mitchell & Wright’s Felinoak Fizz at Huntshill.
Beagle Open (5,2)
1. Mitchell & Wright’s Huntshill Up To Trouble. 4 year old tricolour dog. A smart dog who presents a well proportioned, balanced and clean outline. Well laid shoulders and good return of upper arm. Enough bone and good feet. Well bodied and holds his level topline on the move. Moved well but a little loose in front. Preferred his head over 2 in this class but not over the winner of the last. RBOB.
2. Murphy’s Davricard Picasso at Rhosyndu. Another well balanced tricolour dog, 2 year old. Not too dissimilar in make and shape than the winner of the class, preferred the head, eye and expression of 1 which was the deciding factor.
AV Imported Breed Register Hound Open (1)
1. Gunn’s Stonemartin Ailbe with Katanga. 3 year old Azawakh bitch. A very well proportioned bitch who presents a typical outline. Lean and chiselled head, yet feminine with well set ears. Long neck. Super topline. Moved on a light stride. Commendable temperament. Best AV Import Register.
AVNSC Hound Open (5)
1. Clinton’s Akmar Napatan Gold for Westlawn. 12 month old tricolour Basenji bitch. I was really taken with this bitch who had super proportions and clean outline. Really lovely head, flat skull of correct width with some wrinkle, small ears well set, dark eyes and clean cheek. Well angled fore and aft with a level back and short loin. Well set tail. Can tighten in front movement but otherwise was very impressive on the move with a long swinging stride, holding her outline well. BAVNSC and Hound Group 1.
2. Gunn & Cannon’s Lux Ch Amal Salang Hey I’m The Star at Zushkhan. Hard to believe this Afghan Hound bitch was approaching 9 year old. Super proportions and outline. Liked her head with good strength of jaw and typical expression. Well made all through, with a hard level back and correct fallaway. In what was almost an all Afghan Hound class, she was the most typical on the move making the most of the ring.
3. Cowley & Maroney Cowley’s Hariri Ebn Mahsati Von Haussman (Imp CHI).
AV Hound Veteran (10,3)
1. Beach’s Izia Klara Difino (Imp SVN). A very smart Miniature Smooth-Haired Dachshund male who had just turned 7. Masculine head held on a long neck. Well laid shoulders and good return of upper arm. Well ribbed with a short loin. Moved very well with a long stride.
2. Gunn & Cannon’s Lux Ch Amal Salang Hey I’m The Star at Zushkhan.
3. Adam’s Ch Zandahar Just Tiger Lily JW ShCM VW.
