Miniature Dachshund Club

Miniature Dachshund Club – Open Show – 15th June 2024

Judge: Lloyd Cross

I would like to thank the officers and committee of the club for their exceedingly kind invitation to judge BIS today. What a lovely friendly relaxed show this is,  the Club should be immensely proud of the great welcome and hospitality shown to everyone present.

From the breed judges I was presented with lots of exceptional quality exhibits to challenge for the top honours.

Baby Puppy

The first time I have judged baby puppies apart from Australia when I remember having a class of ten baby puppy min smooth dogs march into the ring like little soldiers.

I wanted to keep things fun as should be the case for pups at this tender age and was delighted to see all four entered were full of confidence and lovely the experience even being handled on the table.

All exhibits were of high quality, but I was asked to place them so for me the baby puppy with outstanding promise was:

1st Jones Bimini Moonlight (m/w)

2nd Woods Ruletadax Queens Gambit (m/s)

3rd Mills-Jones Bimini Moonrise (m/w)

Best in Show – Roberts & Smith’s - Sonorra Ginger Snap for Rayol, a lovely super sound red mini smooth girl of 3.5 years. Correct head and darkest of eye, super strong jaw no weakness at all. Great angulation in the shoulder, tight elbows and a good prosternum and correct oval keel. Good length of neck and correct underline and strong topline held at all times. Correct length of well sprung ribbing. Lovely well- muscled hindquarters with correct angulation strong parallel hocks. Stood four square and showed great balance both in free stand and on the move. Her excellent handler worked extremely hard to get the best from her in fierce competition but could not be denied BIS on her positive and sound strong movement.

Reserve Best in Show – Walters - Ralines First Past the Post, striking black/cream min long puppy of almost 11 months. Beautiful head and expression, lovely clean markings, classic head on good lengthy neck. Correct dentition and good underjaw. Oval keel with good depth and decent length of ribbing. Well angulated hindquarters that are developing, still needing more muscle definition to complete the picture and aid strength to the hocks. Very sound moving better in front than behind at the moment. Great handling, stunning outline and superb presentation completed the picture. Will do well with a bit more time. Delighted to award her RBIS & RBPIS

BIS 3 – Flynn’s Janter Chanson (min wire)

Best Puppy in Show – Jones’ Bimini Song Sung Blue, eye catching wild boar min wire male full of quality, great head shape and lovely dark eye with a soft but masculine expression. Great strength of jaw. Super neckline into very nicely angulated shoulders. Good ovel front and plenty of width. Prominent prosternum and lovely flowing underline and correct topline held beautifully at all times. Lovely well sprung ribcage well back with a nice short loin. A delightful mover full of character and enjoying himself whilst maintaining a good reach in front and drive behind showing me a good set of pads. A really stunning puppy who will, for sure, please a lot more judges in the future. Delighted to be able to go over him.

BPIS 3 – Oliver Bridges – Bellacole Sweet But Sassy (Min Smooth)

Best Veteran in Show – Phillips – Stargang High Hopes of Robinswood (min smooth), today really was his day and congratulations to his owner for presenting this delightful 10 year old in superb condition. A very well balanced red boy with a great head and expression – correct angulations front and rear, great ribbing, and nice short loin. Lovely turn of stifle and super copy book hind quarters which he used to great advantage on the move. Flowed round the ring showing a good drive and a super topline. A credit to his owner.

Reserve Best Veteran in Show – Bruty’s Jantor Red Horses (Imp Pol), sound moving min wire of correct size. Unlucky to meet the winner on such good form on the day. Did give his handler a bit of a test at times.

Good head and expression.

Best Special Beginner in Show – Walker & Wiltshire’s Littlelibbs Newtown Ellis, very perfectly balance shaded red min long of 11 months.

Really showed his quality construction on the move using reach and drive and holding the best of outlines throughout. Great substance and full of quality – a little more confidence from handler will transfer through the lead and make a great partnership, I wish you much success in the future.
