Leicester City Canine Society – Open Show 26.08.24

Thanks to the society for the invite to judge at their summer open show, my stewards for their efficiency in the ring keeping things moving & to all the exhibitors who were kind enough to enter their dogs under me for my opinions and critiques. It is so important to give all exhibits the same consideration time wise and I hope that my handling of the dogs was to the satisfaction of those entered.

Basset Griffon Vendeen (Grand)

Junior (1,0)

1st O’Day’s Tarmachan Toscanello – 12 months girl full of cheeky attitude and noble charm. Lovely balance in correct proportions. Showed and handled well liked particularly her flowing lines on the move and standing. Correct head and lovely dark ovel eyes framed with long lashes. Great feet, nice bone/substance, elegant long neck into well laid back shoulders great topline with well extended ribs and a lovely underline – no tuck up.

Good tight feet. Hindquarters developing nicely for a youngster with strong hocks. Stood alone today but was a delightful winner of BOB.

Junior (1,0)

1st Reid’s Maudaxi Billy Bookcase – 10 month boy of great happy character, great proportions and really well balanced throughout. Correct head and good length of neck, well developed chest coming on nicely, prominent sternum and lovely laid back shoulder with correct lengths of shoulder and upper arm. Short strong loin and correct tight feet. Used his well angulated hindquarters to advantage with strong positive movement coming and going. A lovely puppy full of promise. BPIB

1st Bartley’s, Erylan Poseidon De La Mer JW – super smart 18 month male again of a very balance construction overall. Excelled in head and neck, super front showing excellent true movement. Looked lovely on the move using his correctly proportioned hindquarters to drive round the ring holding a lovely topline. Loved him - BOB.

2nd Reid’s Maudaxi Joanie Loves Chacha JW – lovely 2 yr old girl, more compact than the winner and giving her handler a tough time, with her cheeky attitude. Great head and correct eye. Nice neck into correctly constructed shoulders. Good strong topline and moved soundly both for and aft. Just preferred the overall balanced appearance of my winner on the day.

1st Bartley’s, Erylan Zeus Roi Des Dieux ShCex – super masculine hound of 6.5 years. Still has a super outline and all the correct characteristics of the breed. Great front, head, super neck and shoulders just found his kennel mates movement more positive on the day but obviously a big winning dog of his day.

Open Dog (1,0)

1st Maun’s Ch. Bowerhinton Bassanio – fabulous male, who on the day, was the complete picture for me. Now 5.5 years but shows that this breed excels with maturity. Super powerful in appearance with a lovely correct coat, compact square outline lovely proud head carriage and lovely true movement. I think he excelled on the day, and I had no hesitation giving him BOB over his kennel mate and pleased to see he gained a 3rd placing in the strong hound group.

1st Maun’s Bowerhinton Blackbird – full of feminine quality and showing herself well. Another one that will for sure achieve her title at only 2 has lots of time. Compact and correctly made with a good head and eye, lovely well set ears. On the day not quite the finish in coat of the dog but super sound and a credit to her owner.

Puppy (2,0)

1st Skinners’ Whitesquall Mionetto – super elegant and correctly sized red brindle girl of 9 months. Nicely bred girl showing many super qualities and a lovely outline at this young age. Lovely straight front, good shoulder placement and sufficient depth of chest. Lovely flowing underline and topline help on the move and displayed beautifully in the free stand. Moved well showing good correct movement in front and a nice strong parallel gait behind. BPIB

2nd Cooper’s Ballauren’s Last Chance – 6 month male who for me was up to size at this age and a little long in loin. Good front and nice head but for correct size hade to give way the winner.

Junior (2,1)

1st Cooper’s Crosscop Im Alwayz Yours at Ballauren – pretty and very feminine fawn & white girl just out of puppy. Lovely outline, correct shoulders and good length of ribbing. Great turn of stifle. Standing on four lovely tight feet. Moved well holding a correct curving outline on the move.

Post Graduate ((2,1)

1st Smith’s Warrior Bee – super solid & well-muscled black girl of 3.5 years. Loved her depth of keel and super top and underlines. Would prefer slightly stronger action in front and more solid action behind but worthy of her win in this class. Presented beautifully in excellent coat and condition.

Open (4,0)

1st Bridgeman-Lewis & Wilton-Clark’s Shalfleet Making Waves. A beautiful brindle/white boy who I was lucky enough to judge as a youngster when I awarded him BOB & Hound Grp 1 from just out of puppy – he then went on to win RBIS. A dog of tremendous style and of a lovely correct size. Has certainly matured into a fabulous hound. Textbook & super sound all over without exaggeration in any area. Excels in size and balance love his depth of chest and lovely flowing top and underlines. Lovely angulation in the shoulder and the hindquarters. Really comes into his own on the move, love the shape he makes and the correct front movement when he got into his stride. Unfortunately, the ring was limited in size today so none of the dogs had as much room to move as I would have liked. Looked and performed at his best in the challenge. Delighted to award him BOB. I hope his title is not far off!

2nd Glithero & Philo’s Palmik Against All Odds for Coppershell. Smart looking male sharing the same sire as my junior winner unfortunately although well put together and having a lovely outline was another that was too big in frame.
