Basset Griffon Vendeen (Petite)

Puppy (1,0)

1st Osbourne’s Baujons Wayne Sleep with Braego. A very smart 8 month old dog full of breed character and showing with spirit and enthusiasm! Lovely straight front, tight feet, lovely shoulder placement and angulation. Super flowing lines and of a correct size. Super topline on the move and free-standing. One to watch for the future. Congratulations – BPIB / RBOB & my Hound Puppy Group 2.

Special Yearling (1,0)

1st Townsend’s Overbecks Esme Shelby at Roxastin. 23 months girl of a good size and correct front construction. Nice and tight in elbow, good ribbing. Moved OK just preferred the overall balance height to length of her kennel mate in the challenge.

Open (1,0)

1st Townsend’s Afterglow Curtain Call avec Roxastain. 4 yr old male who I have judged before. Good solid correct overall construction particularly liked his hind quarter construction and angulation. Lovely shoulders in correct topline. Super ribbing. Moved true in all directions. Pushed hard by the exuberant puppy but won on finish and balance on the day. BOB

Whippet

Puppy (4,3)

1st Hines Moonstone Moment. Pretty girl of just 6 months. Very much a raw baby but most promising elegant lines and of a lovely size. Likes her flowing shape nice head and correct head and eye. Good neck and shoulders running into elegant curvy topline with good tuck up. Still needing to strengthen behind but as it should be in such a baby. BPIB

Special Yearling (2,0)

1st Wilton-Clark’s Shalfleet Chasing the Dream. A very eye-catching male of 16 months. Lovely head, neck and correct shoulders. Loved the shape held in the stack and on the move. Good curvaceous body lines, nicely angulated hindquarters. In his class moved very well with good balance. Lost out in the challenge having to be handled by a stranger which unfortunately unsettled him. One I would like to own.

2nd Wells Selinko Stargazer – good overall construction male of a slightly larger size than I prefer. Good - shaped head, slightly round and light eye detracted from the overall picture. Moved well.

Limit (4,2)

1st Reece’s Saleehah Stardancer. Pretty female of great size and shape. Veery elegant in head, neck and has lovely flowing lines. Strong correctly angulated hindquarters. Moved correctly for and aft and held a good shape on the move. In the challenge just preferred the extra length of neck and overall balance of the winner. RBOB

2nd Rainsbury’s Shalfleet Chasing the Sun. Elegant dog of great construction. Plenty of him, good head and lovely neck and shoulders. Moved well coming and going, Nice outline at all times. Close decision here but just preferred the size of the winner.

Open ( 2,0)

1st Wilton-Clarks’s Shalfleet Easter Sonnet JW – very pretty white/brindle girl of 2.5years. Of an excellent size. Full of elegance and balance – not overdone in any area. By far the best moving today with beautiful head and expression, neat front action and good drive from behind. Holding a lovely shape at all times and looked a picture on the move. BOB & Hound Group 3

2nd Reece’s Saleehah Moonflower. Another pretty girl from this kennel who is of a great size and shape – I thought would challenge harder, but I felt like her kennel mate just lacked a little in neck which was highlighted on the shape made on the move. That said a very sound girl all round with correct movement.

AV Imported Breed Register Hound

Open (1.0)

1st Simms Stonemartin Anlon at Ezhar (IKC) Azawakh – lovely 4 year old male who I have admired before for his correct breed type and construction. I particularly like this boys’ balanced shape held at all times lovely topline, great neck strength and well angulated hindquarters. BIBR  Shortlisted in a very strong hound group.

Hound Group

I was delighted with the depth of quality presented in a large group and thank my co-judges of hounds, Elaine Bogart & Matthew Siggee, for sending through some excellent exhibits -  shortlisted 8 for further consideration, the L/H Dachshund, Azawakh, Basenji (still a baby) and Rhodesian Ridgeback just missing out although must be commended for their breed type and quality.

HG1 – Bavarian Mountain Hound

Seago & Gibbard’s Conwydogs Purple into Amlida – what a super girl this is. Having been interested in the breed for a while it was a joy to find such a super example. Nothing exaggerated, lovely size and correct balance height to length ratio. Super conditioned, muscular and the most beautiful of coats. Super feminine head not too broad with a well-defined stop and of correct proportions. Super strong jaw line, correct dentition. Elegant neck full of strength into super shoulder placement. Strong straight front into well arched and good feet. On the stack and in profile on the move this girl showed a beautifully balance outline. Slight rise over the loin on the move and in the stack. Correct tail set and the strongest of well angulated, broad thighs, strong hocks and well angulated stifles. Super strong and parallel at all times. Stood four-square presenting the most beautiful of outlines. Delighted to award her the group in super strong competition – I wish her every success in her future showing/working career. I believe a first Hound Group win for the breed.

HG2 – Basset Hound

Strudwick’s Armardio Ride Like The Wind among Kumamatata JW – in my opinion a fabulous example of the breed with correct balance and overall construction. Particularly like his masculine head into strong arched neck, super angulated shoulders and lovely level topline held both in the natural free stand and on the move. Super turn of stifle and strong parallel hocks used with purpose. Delighted to award him Grp 2

HG3 – Whippet

Wilton-Clarks Shalfleet Easter Sonnet my super BOB a lovely, elegant girl held her own for a strong 3rd placing here.

HG4 – S/H Dachshund

Gaskin’s Ir. Ch. Hampdach I Am The One and Only at Dovestream – red male of almost 2 years and one that I have awarded BPIS in the past. Has certainly matured into a lovely balanced dog and well deserving of his Irish title. Super front construction. Lovely correct oval front girdle. Super shoulder angles and great hindquarters. Was up against some excellent exhibits today and should be proud of his grp 4 placing where other super exhibits missed out.

Hound Puppy Group

HPG1 – Basenji

Knights & Stokes Lelaps Time Lord – An eye-catching, correctly balanced example of the breed with a fabulous, chiselled head, clean cheeks and delightful wrinkled expression, lovely dark correctly shaped eye, super strong jaw with lovely scissor bite. Super neck carried proudly, straight front, deep brisket still developing, lovely short back and strong short loin. Super strong hindquarters parallel lines all through. Looked at his most impressive on the move and stood four- square without needing stacking. Certainly, an eye catching puppy who stood out in this company. Delighted to hear that he already has a CC to his name. I am sure his title will come in his early life.

HPG2 – Basset Griffon Vedeen (Petite)

Osbourne’s Beaujons Wayne Sleep with Braego – my selection from the breed classes and another who has loads of character and charm and will go on to do very well in his maturity.

HPG3 – Finnish Spitz

Knight’s & Stokes Lelaps King In The North – Super puppy still very raw and learning life in the show ring. Particularly good in head and skull. Good front and looked more at ease on the move and free standing, one to watch in the future.

HPG4 – M/W Dachshund

Foley’s Bimini Alfie Moon at Clavennae – mini wire of great outgoing temperament and of encouraging conformation at this tender age – 7 months. Lovely head eye & expression, good neck that he needs to use more to his advantage. Good ribbing & hindquarters moved correctly fore and aft but needs to move with his head carried naturally up to improve his overall outline. Should have a bright future.

AV Hound Veteran (7,4)

1st Rainsbury’s Shalfleet Sir Tom JW ShCM (Whippet) – Male of almost 8 years and still looking full of quality and style. I have judged him in the past and awarded a Hound Group and he still retains all the qualities of his youth. Excels in curvaceous outline with strength in hind quarters and angulations. Beautiful head and eye on strong arched neck. Could not deny him the Best Veteran Hound award – a pleasure to judge.

Penn’s Dalfellin Agape at Dalarisa (Dalmation) – very nicely presented and in great condition. Super sound all through with great ring presence. Strong front, good head and eye. Lovely neck into flowing topline and strong hindquarters used to advantage on the move. Presented a lovely picture in free stand and on the move.

Nice short level topline, strong short loin and super hind angulation. Great bone and substance all through and lovely depth of brisket. Presented superbly.

Best Reserve Best Of Breed In Show

Winner

Hall’s Borderrush Rambutan JW (Border Terrier) – Super smart 2 year old female who did not stop showing. Loved her correct outline on the move and in free stand. Great harsh coat, handled to get the best from her. Super otter like head on great reachy neck. Good balance of length to strong loin. Good tail set and well-muscled hindquarters used to advantage. Loved the attitude and kept it going where others were flagging in the heat. Delighted to award her BRBOBIS!

RBRBOBIS

Holman’s Ch. Altina’s Henry Higgins JW (Pomeranian) – Stunning example of the breed in my opinion. Beautiful foxy head and expression, darkest of eye and solid compact sound body. Good substance and neat cat like feet. Correct coat presented beautifully. Super showman & handled beautifully.

Best Veteran In Show

Winner

Rainsbury’s Shalfleet Sir Tom (Whippet) – Stunning dog who outshone his competition – full critique earlier.

Reserve Best Veteran In Show

McLure’s Kanukalos Burletta (Hovawart) – Not a breed that I was very familiar with so a good eye for a dog came in here! Female of 9 years who immediately caught my eye for being super balanced and with lovely strong movement and stunning carriage. Good neck and shoulders flowing into a lovely topline with a slight slope over the croup. Strong well-muscled hindquarters showing no sign of weakness in the hocks and moved with purpose and drive from behind and good reach in front. Despite being a strong and solid breed her movement what as graceful and effortless as the whippet – was a remarkably close call between these two and I am sure she has and will continue to win many more veteran and indeed breed classes with her quality.
