JAPANESE AKITA INU CLUB DECEMBER 2024 JUDGE: LIZ DUNHILL (FANTASA TEAM VORMUND) Thank you to the club for inviting me to judge at your prestigious club show. Congratulations to all the breeders for attaining type and balance and soundness in action.. Head type on the whole in my entry was excellent overall , and movement has certainly improved in some. However, there are quite a few with soft coats and poor colours. Japanese breed requirements are to select dogs which have prerequisite type, coat texture colour and proportions. As judges we must be mindful of these factors, or we end up with generic gaiting dogs which would fail in country of origin . Colours should be vibrant with harsh texture. Head and expression should melt you upon examination. You look at a head and it should make you say “ wow “. Correct Obliquely set eyes, ear set and urajiro marking are essential, tight lip line and no ultra short and blocky muzzle with drop of lip. Structure and Soundness is also extremely important and some are quite erratic on the move definition of hock is key. Overall, males were medium sized and of beautiful type and proportions with Classic heads, with masculine typical expression, both males and females could hold their own in Europe . I would like to see more size within the males for perfection however, this seems to be an issue worldwide. Females were more consistent overall. The UK has some outstanding females, without a doubt, which makes for a bright future. There was some classic exciting types emerging from the puppy classes. Typical head, ears baby soft. Dark obliquely set eyes, good bite and good width to foreface with good cheeks. Excellent front giving positive action with good prosternum development, and tight feet. Liked his body proportions, good topline and well carried tail. Moderate in rear and just needs to tighten with age. Coat of good texture. Moved well in profile. he’s a well constructed youngster and I loved his size coat and colour in particular, very promising. Best puppy in show. 2ND ASHKARI GO TAKESHI KENSHA (NAF) Red male of good type. Loved his head being typical with dark obliquely set eyes, good width to muzzle and cheeks. Correct bite, ears puppy soft but set well. Liked his proportions and type, coat of a good texture. Well carried tail. He has a good shoulder assembly, and moderate rear, topline little high in rear which will level out with age. His markings are a little excessive on legs and collar. He moved well once settled, just needs to firm up. Very promising baby . JD (2,1A) 1ST HOKUSHOU GO DARUMA KENSHA JWW’24 (IMP ITA) 16 month old red male of excellent type, proportions and balance with lots of potential. Masculine head, well placed ears, good width to skull and foreface with well-formed cheeks giving round appearance. Balanced muzzle and good bite. He has a wonderful expression, from his obliquely set dark eyes. Excellent front, good shoulder and return of upper arm, with good bone, tight feet, well muscled front with good prosternum and good depth to chest and oval ribcage. Excellent topline and tail set. Excellent hindquarters with firm parallel hocks. He moved accurately with excellent ground covering strides in profile. His coat texture and condition are excellent, being well muscled. I am sure he has a very bright future. My res best dog . YD (1) 1ST RYUUKITA BURNING TALISMAN AT KASAISHIRO 17-month-old red male of excellent proportions and type. He has a super head and expression, from his obliquely set eyes. Good width to foreface, and skull. Well placed ears, strong muzzle and good bite. Juvenile front, which needs to tighten with maturity. Good neck, topline and tail set. Oval ribcage developing nicely, moderate hindquarters which balance forehand. Red coat with good texture. White acceptable spot-on neck. He has a moderate balanced action in profile but needs to tighten in front with maturity. PGD (1,1A) LD (1) 1ST AKA KENZOU KASHIKOI OF MOGEKIAKA 5 year old red with good urajiro markings and coat of good texture. He is a moderate male but carrying too much weight, making him look long and low. Super masculine head giving round shape, with well-placed ears, good cheeks, dark eyes, good bite and pigmentation. He is moderate in angulation, but I would like more definition in hock as he is close in rear. Would like more development in chest. Moves with moderate strides, but quite heavy footed. OD (3,1A) 1ST IR CH SEIJITSU AMAFUMI GO TSOYU 4 year old male of excellent proportions and type. He has an excellent masculine round head, with that ‘wow’ factor , with well-placed ears, good width to skull,super padding. Super expression from obliquely set eyes, good pigmentation and width to muzzle, good bite. Straight front with tight feet, lacking padding to chest as half out of coat , good bone, powerful arched neck, leading into good shoulder. Oval ribcage and good depth to brisket. Excellent topline, well carried tail, and balanced rear with good hock definition. He has good urajiro and despite being in half a coat, presents excellent texture and colour. He moves well in profile with correct carriage, and sound on the down and back. He is an excellent medium sized male with super character and great ring presence, he’s very eye catching and correct, no hesitation on giving him best male and res BIS. 2ND HITORIKKO GO HAJIMARI UNDER KYUUTEN (IMP POL) 5 year old striking brindle male of excellent type, balance and bone. Super masculine head, with well-placed ears, and round head shape with good padding .He has a super expression from dark obliquely set eyes. Would like more foreface for perfection. Good bite and dentition. He had a copy book front with prosternum development. Good powerful neck, excellent topline and tailset good depth to body. His rear lacks definition of hock and on occasion he hyper extends. On the move in profile, he holds a decent shape. But unfortunately, his rear was very erratic which was a shame as on type, size and bone,as he ticked the boxes in so many departments. VD (1,1A) BPB (2) 1ST KAZAN NO VISIS (NAF) 5 month old red with the wow factor The most beautiful head and melting expression. She has excellent proportions, good straight front, good bone and tight feet., Going through growth pattern with topline but slightly high on rear. , Well carried tail, moderate rear with firm strong hocks of good definition, In good body and well muscled condition for her age, with super character, and focus for such a baby.The head on this young lady is quite breath taking. Well placed thick padded ears on flat top skull, dark obliquely set eyes, good foreface and width to muzzle. Huge cheeks, good pigmentation, with good bite and strong underjaw. She moves very soundly on good legs and feet with good strides. She will no doubt have a bright future. Super coat vibrant orange/red, with good urajiro markings, the texture bring so correct from translucent guard hairs, . She is one to watch, this 5 month old baby’s blew me away, her future is bright, her character is bold and at one with her handler. Best baby in show. The best is yet to come with this young lady . 2ND MATSUKITA SATOMI 4 month old red, with all the essentials, very promising type but more elegant in outlook. Super pretty head, with well-placed ears and dark obliquely set eyes giving wonderful expression. Strong in underjaw and good width to muzzle. She had a good forehand, balanced hindquarters with good definition of hock. Well carried tail, good oval ribcage. She is developing nicely; she has a good positive gait in profile but needs to tighten up her feet and front movement which will come with maturity. She will have a bright future. Very promising baby. PB (3,2A) 1ST ASHKARI GO HAYAMI KENSHA (NAF) 6 month old white with good bone and type. She has a feminine head of good proportions with good bite and development to foreface and muzzle. Large puppy soft ears at this stage of development but carried well when attentive. Small dark eye, would like more length,, good round cheeks, and good bite. Solid body, with good front. Strong rear and well carried tail. Excellent topline for age. She is a strong female with a good width to thigh and parallel firm rear pasterns. She needs time to grow on, tighten feet and on the move. With more training and confidence could present a very pleasing package, she has time on her side. Only a baby learning her craft . JB (2,1A) 1ST NARA GO TOWA NO MIYAKO (IMP ITA) 16 month old red of excellent type and balance. Loved her feminine head, coupled with well-placed small thick ears. Good width to skull, dark obliquely set eyes, good fill to foreface and muzzle. Good bite, super round head with good cheeks and the wonderful melting expression. Correct juvenile front, which needs to tighten with maturity. Good depth to oval ribcage, well ribbed back and short in loin. Strong neck, good topline and well carried tail. Balanced hindquarters, with firm parallel with good definition of hock. Red coat of good texture, good urajiro markings with an acceptable spot on neck. She moved with fluent gait in profile. Very promising female, she has a lot more to come, beautiful bitch. YB (1,1A) PGB (3,1A) 1ST TSOYU URAMIYAKIHIME GO 3 year old female of good proportions and balance. Feminine head, but a little plain. Long in foreface and muzzle and lacking width to underjaw. Well placed ears would prefer more width to cheeks but was out of coat. Dark small eye, good bite and pigmentation. She is moderate all through, firm in body with good ribcage. Firm topline and well carried tail. Good urajiro, red coat of decent texture. Would like to see more angle through the hock and prosternum development. She is a steady mover with decent profile action. 2ND RYUUKITA DANU AT KASAISHIRO (IKC) White female of good type but coat a little soft. Preferred this girls head, being stronger but still feminine. Good width to skull and good round cheeks. Ears good when focused, good bite. Would prefer more prosternum development, and a stronger topline and croup. Tail a little low set. She has good bone but needs to tighten in front. She is a steady mover in profile. LB (4,1A) 1ST SEIJITSU NO BISHOUJO Red female who fits the remit on type and proportions with coat of great colour and texture. Her head is classic with well placed ears and good width to skull, obliquely set dark eye, good cheeks, balanced muzzle and good bite. She has a melting expression and correct urajiro markings. Strong arched neck, excellent topline and tailset. Correct front, and chest, tight feet,, strong topline and good tailset, , oval ribs, firm in loin and balanced correct moderate hindquarters with good definition of hock. She moved accurately, and in profile held a super outline with good extension. Loved her type and balance, well muscled and conditioned. 2ND CHARADON NO KAORU GO 2 year old attractive substantial female of good type. Super feminine head, obliquely set eyes and well-set ears. Balanced muzzle and good dentition. Good urajiro markings, giving attractive expression. Strong crested neck, good shoulder but needs more upper arm. Excellent topline, well carried tail and a tad too much angulation to hindquarters. Coat quite soft, would prefer more guard hairs to give stronger colour, She is well boned with good body and muscle.She is well ribbed back and firm in loin. On the move she is untidy coming and going but in profile carried a good shape and balance, with good extension. 3RD RYUUKITA DANU AT KASAISHIRO (IKC) OB (5,3A) 1ST TSOYU TAMASHINO GO 2 year old brindle female who epitomizes true female Akita Inu type. I have admired her from first seeing her as a puppy and she has certainly fulfilled her potential. Type, balance, movement and colour – she has it all! Medium sized, self-masked brindle, she oozes quality. Her head is copybook, strong but feminine. Good width to skull, well placed thick ears, good depth and width to muzzle and correct bite. Full cheeks, dark obliquely set eye which gives a beautiful classic expression with wow factor ,She is well constructed throughout, excellent strong neck, into good shoulder and front., good bone and feet, Prosternum evident , she is Short coupled, excellent topline and well carried tail. Her hindquarters are well muscled with good hock definition. Her movement is accurate and in profile she covers ground, with good extension , holding her shape and outline. Coat is full and of correct harsh texture. She ticked all my boxes and has it all. I had no hesitation in awarding her BB & BIS. 2ND WENDBARRY ALL THAT JAZZ Another beautiful brindle at 12 years old. She has a classic head and expression, well placed ears, dark obliquely set eye. Not quite the width of muzzle as the winner but has a correct bite. She is well balanced with good front, and deep chest and tight feet. Her topline is level with well carried tail. She has balanced hindquarters with good definition of hock. She has good bone, correct coat of good texture, moves well in profile. A credit to the breed and her owner. She is in super condition with good muscle tone. VB (4,1A) 1ST NOSFERATU’S NO KIOKU GO 7 year old red of excellent type and balance, another with wow factor have admired her from a puppy. Exquisite head and expression, from her dark obliquely set eyes. She has full cheeks and balanced muzzle and correct bite. Thick padded ears, which are well set. Strong arched neck, leading into good shoulder topline and Straight front. Tight feet, good body and condition. Balanced hindquarters, correct proportions and well carried tail. Correct urajiro and red coat of good texture. She moves soundly. Covered the ground with correct moderate strides in good muscle tone and body condition. She is beautiful breed type and defies her age. Super quality. I had no hesitation in awarding her RBB. And best veteran in show. 2ND BREEZELYN HONO NO MAHO 10 year old red with correct coat texture. Her head is classic giving a typical expression from dark obliquely set eyes. Well placed thick ears, on broad skull. Full cheeks, good width of muzzle and correct bite. She is well constructed throughout. H front, tight feet, level topline, well carried tail and balanced hindquarters. She moves well in profile and is in super condition.
