Dundee Canine Club

Sunday 9th June 2024

My sincere thanks to Dundee Canine Club for the invitation to judge the Poodle Club of Scotland supported entry at their show. I was delighted to undertake the appointment having co-owned a Miniature Poodle in the 90’s and having recently attended a breed appreciation day.

Thank you to the lovely Poodle exhibitors for supporting my appointment ‘on paper’ and in your attendance; it was a real honour and pleasure to have such quality exhibits to assess on the day and I appreciate your support.

Lastly a huge well done to Dundee for pulling off such a lovely welcoming organised show under the testing circumstances which were presented in the lead up to the show; it turned out to be an absolute triumph for the hardworking committee.

Poodle Miniature Special Yearling (3,1)

A super class to begin my judging with, two beautiful exhibits that I expect have great show careers ahead.

1st Hunter & Murphy’s SILVORA CRISTAL STAR. Black 8 month old quality male. Balanced masculine head of good proportions, with good chiselling and enough chin. Correct dark eye, full of expression. Square in outline, compact in body, correct balanced angles front and rear, good bone, and correct feet. He moved out fluidly from all directions, holding his carriage and presence throughout which just tipped the scales in his favour over 2nd today. BOB & BPIB and delighted to hear he later went Puppy Group 4 under Josh Henderson.

2nd Watt & Bruce’s DONASKA TILTED HALO. Impressive black 19 month old bitch oozing quality. She was presented in first class coat and condition and on first look could have been my winner. Lovely head piece with good chiselling, decent chin, and beautiful eyes. Square balanced outline, correct front and rear, she is a beautiful very promising youngster. Despite her handler’s best efforts she just wouldn’t move out, instead holding back so not displaying that typical proud carriage and so today had to give way to the young male.

Poodle Miniature Post Graduate (1,0)

1st Hutton’s NATICA CHOCOLATE SURPRISE. Pretty 4.5 yr old mismarked brown bitch. Balanced head, lacking a little in chiselling and would prefer more refinement and a darker eye. She presents a pleasing almost square outline on the stand and was presented in lovely coat and firm condition. On the move she covers the ground with drive, although away is close behind. Lovely connection with her handler who worked well to get the best from her.

Poodle Toy Special Yearling (5,2)

1st Tollin’s DORIAN GRAY’S ACE UP MY SLEEVE (IMP DEU). Pretty silver bitch of 20 months old. Feminine head of good proportions, good chin, and adequate chiselling. Compact in body and square in outline. Balanced angles front and rear aiding typical movement with plenty of drive. She carried herself proudly throughout, was well coated and presented in lovely condition.

2nd Winnington’s KEELMARA QUEENS ENGLISH AT FINGOLFIN. 21 month old brown bitch. Presented in clean coat and condition. Preferred head and overall balance of 1. Unfortunately she was quite unhappy on the move today so not giving the best account of herself.

3rd Giannti’s AFTERSHINE ENDLESS FLAME. BPIB

Poodle Toy Post Graduate(2,1)

1st Tollin’s DORIAN GRAY’S ACE UP MY SLEEVE (IMP DEU)

Poodle Toy Open (4,1)

1st Murphy, Grant & Grant’s CH SILVORA TIK TOK JW. This handsome 3 year-old male exudes quality. Super black coat groomed and presented to perfection. He presents a most pleasing balanced outline on the stand. Closer inspection shows his well balanced refined head with good chiselling and defined chin. Correctly shaped, dark eyes lending themselves to a glorious expression. Proportionate bone for size, on correct feet. He moved well from all directions, displaying a proud carriage throughout. BOB

2nd Brunton’s TAFARI TA DA IT’S AFTERGLOW. Quality black male of 3.5 years old. Lots to like about this exhibit, just unfortunate to come up against 1st. A lovely balanced head piece with good sculpting, defined chin and a pleasing eye. Shown in good coat and condition, he presents a lovely balanced outline on the stand and moved out typically with good drive; today he just didn’t have the ring presence or attitude to challenge 1st.

Poodle Standard Post Graduate (2,1)

1st Humphreys & Mountfield’s ALAIN CLARK FROM QUINDONMIERTIEK. 10-years old apricot male presented in neat pet trim and body in good firm condition. On the stand he demonstrates a balanced almost square outline and has excellent bone. Masculine head of balanced proportions dark expressive eyes and good ears. He covered the ground with ease maintaining a strong topline and typical carriage.

Poodle Standard Open (2,1)

1st Humphrey’s BHANYANAN FIRE GAME IZ VOLZHKOY SERENADY (IMP FIN). Pretty apricot bitch of 3-years-old. Pretty head of correct balanced proportions with good chiselling, pleasing correctly shaped eyes. On the stand she presents a most attractive picture, being so balanced in outline, good angles front and rear, and nicely boned. She was well presented in excellent coat and condition, moving out with a typical free action displaying proud carriage. In the challenge for BOB I preferred her more refined head to the dog. BOB
