Hound Group

Thanks to the committee for the lovely invitation to judge your show, it was a shame the date clashed with the Hound Show, but there were still quality hounds in attendance and I thank all exhibitors for your entries and the opportunity to judge your lovely dogs. Thank you to my efficient Stewards, Corinne and Stephen who were a pleasure to share the ring with and kept the ring flowing.

Cl 8. Junior (1)

1st 4 Greenough, Mrs H - Tevelen’s Hugo Boss – 14 month old male with good breed type and proportions. Well balanced, he is a compact and sturdy boy. Attractive head with strong muzzle shorter in length than stop to occiput, kind dark eyes and long, low set ears. Parallel forelegs, knuckled feet and filled forechest viewed from the front. Strong neck, nicely constructed shoulders, nice body shape and strong topline, high set sturdy tail. Well-turned stifle, strong hocks. He moved out well with a free stride and rear drive. Pleased to award him Reserve Best Of Breed.

Cl 9. Post Graduate (1)

1st 6 Jones, Mrs L – Molesend Glamour At Stanseren – 18 months old female. I liked her type, houndy head proportions and overall balance which put her on top today. She scored in front assembly, with quality bone and short pasterns. Nicely filled forechest. Good length and depth of body, firm topline and strong loin. Good tailset, balanced rear anglulation with low hocks. She moved very well, true coming and going and with drive. Best Of Breed & Hound Group 3

Cl 10. Open (2) Difficult to choose between these two very different types.

1st 7 Thomas, Mrs T – Terina’s Man of Mischief – 7 year old male – big boy who won this class on his accurate movement. Well balanced with sound construction, he has excellent angulation front and back and good height to length proportions – there’s just a lot of him. He was accurate on the move, if a bit reluctant today but did enough to win the class.

2nd 5 Greenough, Mrs H – The Candy Bar Krolewska Zgraja For Tevelen (Imp Pol) – Pretty 5 year old female with good head, nice long ears, strong muscular neck, sloping shoulders, nice length of body, moderately angled rear with low hocks. Covered the ground in profile, I just preferred the movement of 1 fore and aft.

2nd 15 Rose, Miss J - Paradaxi Final Solution 2 year old black and tan male of a different type to 1. Dark eyes, strong muzzle, muscular neck. Nice length to height ratio, would prefer a more gradual underline, longer ribcage, and level topline. Moved with enthusiasm.

Cl 25. Open (1)

1st 18 Pantoja, Miss E – Killoughery Rockafella Of Outsight BOB, Handsome 3 year old male of imposing stature. He is so well balanced, built for power and shown in harsh coat and muscular condition. Loved his head, of lovely proportions – long and not too broad with dark eyes and strong muzzle and rose shaped ears. Long, clean, muscular neck into a well-constructed front which puts his elbows well under him, giving a beautifully filled forechest. Perfectly parallel forelegs of quality bone and arched feet. Excellent length of body with good depth, strong topline with arched loin. Good tailset and low carriage with upwards sweep. Nicely angled rear with good turn of stifle and parallel hocks, well let down. He has a lovely temperament, and came into his own on the move – covering the ground with a long easy stride, and true coming and going. Pleased to award him Best of Breed, and later a well-deserved Hound Group 1.

2nd 29 Disley, Miss A – Penwincoed True Faith with Snowleana (Whippet) – 11 month old brindle bitch who has a lovely profile and lots to like about her. Pretty head of good length and proportions, dark oval eyes and strong jaws. Long, muscular neck, well laid sloping shoulders with good return of upper arm, elbows close to sides. Parallel forelegs of good bone, knuckled feet and sufficiently filled forechest when viewed from the front. Nice shape of body with good tuck up. Well angled rear with well turned stifles and a low strong hock.

3rd 21 Kehoe & Phillips, Miss A M & Mr C R - Redcrown Celtic Queen (Rhodesian Ridgeback) – raw 9 month old female. Pretty head of nice proportions, dark eye and good width of muzzle. I see she is daughter to the Veteran class winner and the apple didn’t fall far from that tree. Well off for bone, perfectly parallel forelegs. Still leggy at this stage, chest needs to drop but nice length of body with strong level topline. Moderately angled front and back. She moved true and had a free profile gait. She wasn’t happy today and was easily spooked by her surroundings, I hope this can improve with further training and socialising as she matures.
