East of Scotland Canine Club, 03.03.24

Thanks to the Officers and Committee for the kind invitation to judge your show, I found there to be an excellent breadth of quality and really enjoyed judging the super entry given to me. The Hound Group was the best I’ve had the pleasure in judging so far. Thank you to all exhibitors for your support, and for taking my decisions with grace. Special Thanks to my excellent Stewards, Elaine and Lorraine who kept the ring flowing.

Class 90 - Deerhound open (6,2) A nice class.

1st 321. Orge Et Malt D’Escalgrain (Imp Fra) Six year-old female with lovely balanced angulation and graceful movement which won her the class. Lovely head, correct eye, and expression, good ears, strong muzzle with good underjaw. Shown in excellent coat and condition. Strong neck of good length, into lovely front assembly, parallel forelegs under her with well knuckled feet and bone. Good depth of chest and nice underline and topline, good length of body. Drooping hindquarters with balanced angulation with good turn of stifle and strong hocks, moved true and covered the ground in profile. BOB.

2nd 320. Humbiehounds Jazz it Up

One year-old female who has still to fill out and mature as you would expect at this age. She is balanced, has a lovely head and expression with full hazel eyes, and strong muzzle. Sloping shoulders with nice bone and good feet. Good length of body, chest still needs to drop. Balanced rear angulation good low hocks, moved well.

3rd. 322 Anyanka Chase of Lycanfold

Class 91 - Basset hound open (5,3)

A close decision between these two lovely girls.

1st 328. Mandala Z Sennej Krainy of Tayjinx (Imp Pol) Two-year-old female with lovely substance and balance throughout. Domed skull, head of good proportions, dark eyes, long velvety years, muscular arched neck set into a well constructed front assembly. Late fitting. Four lakes with ideal elbow placement. Excellent length and depth of body with well sprung reps. Muscular rear with good turn of stifle and strong hock good tail set and carriage moved very well to when this class best of breed.

2nd 325. Burnvale Dazzling Diamond at Culsalmond - Another lovely two-year-old girl, love her head. Good ears, correct eye shape and strong deep muscle. Long arched neck, excellent shoulders and for chest, lovely bone. Good shape and depth to her body with excellent top line until set strong rear. She was enjoying the smells and the ring today which made it difficult to assess her movement.

Class 92 - Saluki open (4,1)

1st. 331 Luachmhar Jamilah ShCEx feminine 3 year old bitch who is balanced, elegant and moderate throughout. Pretty head of good length and proportions, dark oval eyes, and well set silky-hair covered ears. Long, muscular neck set into sloping shoulders, perfectly straight forelegs with good bone and feathering. Deep chest, nice long ribcage with good width of body. Moderate rear angulation, low strong hock. Smooth, effortless mover. Best of Breed.

2nd. 330 - Merenptah Nazneen, 3 year old shapely female, pretty head, long arched neck into sloping shoulders, good return of upper arm and filled forechest. Nice bone, long ribcage, well turned stifle, low hock.

Class 93 - Afghan Hound Open (4) A lovely class!

1. 334 Sitana Moon Knight at Zalmeerah JW (IMP FRA), almost 2 year old male who is balanced in profile and moved out well to win this nice class. Good head, carried proudly with nice dark eyes and strong jaws. Strong neck into sloping shoulders and return of upper arm. Good bone and feet, legs well under him and standing over good ground. Good length and depth of ribbing, nice width throughout. Strong, well angled rear with excellent low hocks. Shown in lovely condition with an excellent long, natural coat. Moved true with a springy gait. Pleased to award him Best of Breed and later, Hound Group 4 in super company – Congratulations!

2. 337 Merrick Picture Perfect by Bryelis JW, a different type to 1, male of 22 months who is still quite raw but lots to like about him. He is well balanced with good angulation front and back, nice bone and good feet. Nice head, eye and ears. Nice length and height body proportions, strong topline and rear. Lovely natural coat. He moved well, covering the ground with an easy, smooth stride.

3. 336 Rahzmakh Heart O’Summer by Bryelis JW

Class 94 - Borzoi Open (6,2)

1. 342 Cavallierik Nektarino (Imp Rus) lovely 5 year old male who is so well balanced with graceful lines and nothing overdone. Long, lean head of good shape, dark eye with intelligent expression, strong jaws and small delicate ears. Strong, arched neck set at a good angle from his front assembly, which is well laid with well placed elbows. Good bone on clean forelegs, and excellent feet. Lovely coat and condition, great depth and length of ribcage. Gentle curve to his topline, strong loins and moderate fallaway. Strong rear, well angled stifles and low hocks. Moved true. Best of Breed and shortlisted in a strong Hound Group.

2. 340 Scotach Need For Speed, lovely bitch of almost 2 years. Loved her head, eye and ears. She is balanced, powerful and built for speed. Excellent bladed bone for size on her parallel forelegs which were well under her. Good length to body, more pronounced rise and fallaway than 1. Excellent coat and condition. Strong well angled rear, strong hocks. Lovely mover with good reach and drive.

Class 96 - AV NSC Hound Post Graduate (4)

1. 345 Wychway-Crown’s Ghillie Gins Island at Culsalmond (Imp USA) – Bloodhound – Loved her! She has excellent type, proportions and substance. Relatively loose skin as required and no exaggeration whatsoever. Long head of good width and almost parallel planes, strong muzzle of square outline, excellent nose and well set, long ears. Long strong neck, into beautiful front assembly with ample heart-room and excellent depth of chest and well sprung ribs. Strong, round bone and good feet. Ideal elbow placement, with excellent length of body to heigh proportions. Strong topline and loin, excellent tail set and carriage. Well-muscled rear with excellent width and strength throughout. Low hocks. She moved with an elastic, free, gait and covered the ground effortlessly giving the impression she could keep it up all day. Shown in perfect coat and condition, I had the pleasure of awarding her Best AVNSC and later Hound Group 1, in a very strong group. Congratulations! I’d like to take her home!

2. 344 Ballencrief Figgy Pudding - PBGV – a lovely well balanced boy of 3 years, he is not overdone with good angulation and proportions. Good head with good coat and furnishings, correct eye and intelligent expression and nicely shaped low set ears. Strong neck, well laid shoulders and nicely placed elbows. Good bone, parallel forelegs and tight feet, excellent length of body, strong topline and good tailset. Muscular rear, low hock. He moved very well with drive.

3. 347 Code Red Again at Arlatdax

Class 97 - AV NSC Hound Open (9,2) A Lovely class, which made for hard decisions!

1. 355 Ch Swanite Take a Chance on Me (ShCEx) – Basenji – Lovely 5 year old male who really comes into his own on the move. So well balanced, clean lines and lightly built he is in his prime. Beautiful head of good proportions, correct ears, dark almond shaped eyes and strong jaws. Strong, crested neck set nicely into well laid back shoulders. Lovely parallel forelegs with well-filled chest and good length of leg, compact feet. Good depth and spring of ribbing, strong topline and correct high tail set, tail tightly curled. Strong rear with defined posterior curve of buttock giving good width of thigh. Moderate rear, low hock. He moves true, light on his feet with ground covering strides.

2. 352 Ch Ir Ch Int Ch Erylan Hera La Reine – PBGV – a lovely example of the breed unlucky to meet 1 today. 4 year old bitch with a beautiful profile outline, who is so well balanced throughout. Pretty head of good proportions, correct eye and ears, strong muzzle, well pigmented black nose. Good reach of neck giving good head carriage, clean well-laid shoulders. Good length and depth of ribbing, firm topline, short strong loin, good tailset and carriage. Well angled, muscular rear with a low hock. Correct rough coat, well presented. Moved very well with a long free stride, true in all directions.

Hound Group

What a lovely group, I was spoiled for choice with such quality hounds! For further consideration I shortlisted the Rhodesian Ridgeback, Miniature SH Dachshund, Miniature WH Dachshund, Borzoi, Saluki, Bloodhound, Afghan Hound, Whippet and Pharoah Hound.

Group 1 345 Wychway-Crown’s Ghillie Gins Island at Culsalmond - Bloodhound – see class 96, she is the one I’d take home! Just loved her, and couldn’t deny her the win today. Will watch her career with interest. Congratulations!

Group 2 – 313 Collooney Was Meant To Be At Sulahmara JW – A stunning 2 year old male Whippet who oozes quality. Classic graceful outline, he is the perfect balance of power and elegance, and is clearly built for speed. Long, lean head with dark eye and rose shaped ears. Long, clean arched neck into well laid shoulders with return of upper arm. Excellent bone, parallel forelegs and knuckled feet. Lovely shape and depth of ribcage, extending well back into a short, strong loin. Firm topline, held on the move, gracefully arched over loin and good tail set. Well-constructed rear, with good width of thigh and a low, strong hock. Moved straight and true, with a low long stride.

Group 3 - 300 Habiba Ra Harmachis at Saqqara SHCM VW – an attractive 10 year old male Pharoah Hound who belies his years. He has such an impressive outline, so well balanced and is the picture of power and grace. Handsome head, long clean, arched neck into a beautiful front assembly. Excellent bone and feet. Perfect length of body and strong topline compliments of his long ribbing and short, strong loin. Ideal elbow placement and depth of chest. Balanced rear angulation, with excellent width of thigh and low strong hocks. He is shown in excellent muscular condition, and used himself well to cover the ground with a free stride.

Group 4 – 334 Sitana Moon Knight at Zalmeerah JW (IMP FRA) Afghan Hound – see class 93. He came into his own in the big ring and moved his way to a place in this excellent group!

Class 98 – AV Hound Minor Puppy (10,2) A lovely class!

1. 290 – Marvale Rosefinch at Helydon - Miniature SH Dachshund – Beautiful baby girl with so much quality in her compact frame and superbly handled to get the best out of her. Pretty head with correct eye and ears, strong jaws. Long, strong neck, into a beautiful front assembly of well laid shoulders, equal return of upper arm and ample fore chest. Lovely bone and feet, elbows close to body and legs well underneath her. Excellent length of body with ideal depth of brisket and keel extending well back, giving a gradual underline. Short, strong loin, level topline and well-muscled, and angled rear. With strong, low hocks. She moved really well with reach and drive. Delighted to watch her win Reserve Best Minor Puppy In Show, congratulations!

2. 359 – Tarmachan Tre Valli – GBGV - Handsome male of good size and shape, so well balanced with good rough coat and noble head with intelligent expression. Lovely long ears, strong muzzle and large, dark eyes and nose. Strong neck of good length, well laid shoulders with good return of upper arm, well filled chest and lovely bone. Excellent length and depth of body, level topline, good tailset and carriage. Moderate rear angulation, with low strong hocks. He moved freely, straight and true with drive.

3. 357 – Clentry Gossip Girl - Miniature SH Dachshund – Very shapely baby girl with lots to like about her. Good head with nice proportions, and strong jaws. Clean neck, well laid shoulders and legs well under her. Long, strong body with good top and underlines. Plump rear with well bent stifle and low, strong hocks. Moved well.

4. 261 – Leteela Locksmith - Rhodesian Ridgeback – A very rangy and raw male with a lot to like about him. Handsome head with excellent eye colour and pigmentation to match his liver nose. Good head proportions, and planes to skull and muzzle, and strong jaws. Well set ears of good size framing his face. Strong neck, of good length into sloping shoulders with nice return of upper arm. Good length and shape of ribcage, chest still to drop at this age but elbows in a good position, good ridge. Lovely, strong bone and excellent well knuckled feet. Balanced rear angulation, with low strong hocks. Moved well, covering the ground with an easy stride.

Class 99 – AV Hound Puppy (12,3) Another lovely class!

1. 363 Tarmachan Robiola – GBGV – Handsome male with lovely balance and proportions. Loved his head, dark oval eyes with intelligent expression, long ears and strong squared off muzzle. Strong, long neck into a beautifully constructed front assembly, elbows close to body and well-filled forechest. Excellent bone and tight feet. Ideal length of body, good shape to ribbing and short, strong loin. Good tailset and carriage. Moderate rear angulation, low strong hocks. He moved freely and true, with reach and drive.

2. 365 Helydon Vexy Vixen - Miniature WH Dachshund – lovely compact puppy bitch who has a balanced outline and no exaggeration. Conical head of good proportions, strong jaws and correct eye and ears. Long, strong, clean neck into beautiful shoulder assembly and elbows close to body. Excellent depth of brisket and long keel, lovely top and under lines. Long ribcage, short strong loin. Plump, well-muscled rear with good turn of stifle and strong hocks, lovely bone and feet. She moved well, with reach and drive.

3. 301 Ballenbreich Eorsa – Whippet bitch with a graceful outline and classic head, lovely dark eye and long clean, strong neck. Beautiful front, filled fore chest, parallel forelegs with lovely bone and feet. Elbows close to body, lovely top and underlines with good tuck up. Well turned stifle, with good width pf thigh and strong hocks. Moved well, with an effortless stride.

4. 262 Rottzridge Celtic Legend at Kotamury – male Rhodesian Ridgeback of good size and proportions. Good head planes, correct earset and kind expression. Strong neck into sloping shoulders, nice bone, strong pasterns and good feet. Nice length of body, strong topline and correct ridge. Moderate rear angles to balance the front, nice width of thigh and low hocks. He moved well, at one with his handler.

Class 100 – AV Hound Veteran (10,2) A class full of lovely dogs!

1. 371 Ch Vidana Amira S Berega Turi ShCM ShCEx VW (Imp Rus) – graceful 8 year old female Saluki who is full of quality. Long head, large dark oval eyes with the look of intelligence, and strong powerful jaws. Long ears, well set and carried, and covered with long silky hair. Long, muscular neck into sloping, well laid shoulders. Forechest is filled, and she has good bone for size, perfectly straight forelegs, her feet have long well arched toes. Ideal body depth, elbows close to body. Strong, level topline held on the move. Good width of body, strong hip bones well set, excellent strength and width of rear with nicely turned stifles and low strong hocks. She moves with grace and style, covering the ground with ease. Pleased to watch her later win Best Veteran in Show. Congratulations!

2. 367 Ir Ch Clonallan Just Beginning Avec Erylan – 10 year old PBGV bitch in excellent condition. Lovely make and shape, classic head with good proportions. Strong neck into lonvely front, good return of upper arm and legs supporting her frame. Strong, level topline, nice shape to ribcage and short loin. Good tailset, balanced rear angulation, low strong hocks. Moved well in all directions.

3. 368 Woodella Hot Rod VW – 9 year old male Basenji with lovely balance and outline. Dark, almond shaped eyes, strong jaws and small ears. Strong neck, sloping shoulders and nicely placed elbows. Filled forechest, and nice bone, good feet. Short, level back with strong loins and high tail set. Excellent width of thigh, moderately bent stifle and low strong hocks. He moved well, with a swinging, easy stride.

4. 275 Sweet Little Wallflower 7 year old Rhodesian Ridgeback bitch in excellent condition. Pretty head, large round eyes and correct ears. Perfectly straight forelegs, strong bone and knuckled feet. Strong, arched neck into a lovely front assembly, ideal elbow placement and nicely shaped ribcage. Strong, level topline and nice underline. Short, strong loin. Balanced rear angulation with good turn of stifle, nice width of second thigh and low, strong hocks. She moved freely, covering the ground.
