Critique for SWGS
Irish Setters, IRW Setters and Gordon Setters.
My thanks to the Committee of SWGS for the invitation to judge Irish
Setters, Irish RW Setters and Gordon Setters. Thanks also to my Steward for the day keeping me right. Movement is still a cause for concern in all three breeds. Although the venue was bitterly cold I really enjoyed going over all of the dogs. Thanks for giving me the opportunity.
Irish Setters
Puppy (1)
1), Borthwicks, Danwish Aria. Pretty feminine bitch. She has a lovely alert mischievious expression with raised quizzical brows, nice head planes and occiput protruberance, she has a nice arch to her neck, decent shoulders and return of forearm. Good forechest and depth to her chest. She has a gentle slope to her topline and nice bend to her stifle and short hocks. Lovely feet. She really gave her handler a hard time. BPiB
Junior (1)
1), Richardsons, Bardonhill Macintosh Red at Montgreenan. He is different in type to the puppy winner with masculine head not overdone, his head has correct head planes and raised brows over dark brown eyes, low set ears and nice slight arch to neck. Pronounced forechest, good shoulders and return of forearm, He has good depth to his chest and spring of rib with arch over the loin. His topline flows from back of neck to well set tail. Good bend of stifle and short hocks. He has good bone and lovely feet with arched toes. He also gave his handler a hard time.
Spec Yrlg (3)
1), Vallances, Glencarron Second Edition to Corcencone. Pretty girl with lovely feminine head with dark eyes under raised brows showing good stop. She has a moderate length to her neck leading into good shoulders. Nice forechest and depth to chest, nice arch over the loin. Slight drop off to tail which she used well on the move. She has a nice bend to stifle and her hocks are short
2), Charlish, Quensha People Keep talking of Harelferg. Loved the head on this boy. His eyes are dark Hazel under raised brows and aquarish finish to foreface. He has a nice length to neck, good shoulders and return of forearm. He has good depth to his chest and spring of rib and nice over loin. He has enough bend to stifle and short hocks. He is in good hard condition but needs to gain more weight. Another who gave his handler a hard time.
Novice (4)
1), Repeat of Junior
2), Patons, Meadowfoot Juicy Wiggle, Feminine girl with nice head and dark eye, lovely raised brows that were constantly on the move. Her neck is moderate in length leading into well laid shoulders with good return of upper arm. Her elbows are tucked in. She has good depth to her chest and spring of rib with slight arch over her loin. Her topline flows gently down to her tail. She has good bend to her stifle and short hocks.
Graduate (5-1)
1), Greens, Glencarron Show Must go On. Lovely boy. His head has the correct planes and squarish finish to foreface, dark eyes and raised brows, lovely soft expression. He has a gentle arch to his neck, good shoulders leading to sloping topline and good tailset, plenty of forechest and return of upper arm, he has plenty of spring of rib and depth to his chest also slight arch over his loin. He has enough bend to his stifle and his hocks are short. He was on top form, happy to award him BoB
2), Vallances, Lynwood Rather Ravishing at Corcencone, She has lovely dark eyes, She has correct squarish finish to her muzzle. Her ears are low set, she has moderate length to her neck and has good layback of shoulder and return of forearm and her elbows are tucked in, she has good bone. She has pronounced forechest and good depth to her chest. She has a gentle slope to her topline and nice tailset. She has enough bend to stifle and her hocks are short..
Limit (3-1)
1), Greens, Bridmount Dreamed a Dream for Glencarron, She has a lovely feminine head with correct planes and brown eyes and squarish finish to her foreface, her occiput is pronounced, She has a slight arch to her neck and good shoulders and forechest. She has a gentle slope to topline and correct tail set. She has enough bend to her stifle and her hocks are short, good bone and arched toes. Having had time out to have her litter has matured her, she looked lovely.
2), McCullochs, Shenanagin Oh Oh Seven, I thought when they first came in the ring he would be my class winner but just couldn’t deny the bitch. He has a lovely head with the correct head planes and squarish finish to his muzzle, expressive dark hazel eyes under raised brows, he has slight arch to neck leading into good shoulders and front assembly and he has good depth to his chest. Plenty spring of rib and nice arch over loin, He has enough bend to stifle and his hocks are short.
Open (3-1)
1), Deightons, Oakdene Scheihallion, He is a heavier made boy but in proportion. He has a well-proportioned head with low set ears, dark eye and raised brows. He has moderate length to his neck and well laid shoulder and front assembly. His elbows are tucked and he has plenty of bone. He has a slight slope to his topline and nice arch over loin and good tailset. He has enough bend to stifle and short hock. He was the best mover of the day powering round the ring.
2), Davies, Lochfrae Nina Simone. She has a lovely feminine head with dark eyes and raised brows. She has a slight arch to her neck leading into good shoulders and front assembly. She has plenty spring of rib and nice arch over her loin. She has enough bend to her stifle and her hocks are short. She has nice feet with arched toes.
Irish RW Setters
Limit (1)
1), Skenes, Rubethan Cake or Leave it. This young Lady is fine in build. has correct proportions to her head with good stop and dark hazel eyes, she has squarish finish to her muzzle and pronounced occiput. Her neck is clean and moderate in length and her front assembly is adequate she has a pronounced forechest. She has good spring of rib and slight arch over her loin. Her topline is level but she drops off over the croup to her set of tail. She is in super hard condition and her colour and markings are clear with no roaning. BoB.

Gordon Setters
Puppy (2-1)
1), Greens, Balnakeil Creag Rainich. 10mths. She stood alone due to absentees. Her head has the correct proportions and planes. She has dark eyes under brows that show stop. Her ears are low set and her neck is of moderate length. She has good shoulders and forechest and her elbows are tucked in and good strong bone. She has good spring of rib. I would prefer more depth to her chest but that should come as she matures. Nice level topline in the stack and slight arch over her loin with decent bend to her stifle and short hocks. Her tan marking are clear.
Spec Yrlg (3-2)
1), Pallinis, Krisada not in Kansas. Another who due to absentees stood alone. He has a masculine head of good proportions, he has dark brown eyes and raised brows showing stop, his ears are low set and his occipital bone is pronounced. His front assembly is good with neat elbows and good bone, his spring of rib is good and he has slight arch over his loin. He has a level topline which drops off over croup. He has enough bend to his stifle and short hocks.
Limit (3)
1), Hoggs, Gailich Ngalyad. Masculine head on this boy with raised brows over dark eyes. He has low set ears and has moderate length to his neck. He has good angles in shoulders and return of upper arm with good bone and tucked in elbows. He has good depth to his chest and spring of rib. He has a nice level topline with tail set just below level of back. He has light arch over loin, nice bend to stifle and nice short hocks. His tan markings a clear, Liked him.
2), Browns, Mosscript Port Ellen. She has a feminine head of correct proportions, nice dark eyes and low set ears. Nice angles in her front and back assemblies. She has good bone and nice feet. She has good spring of rib and slight arch over loin. She has just enough bend to stifle and her hocks are short. Nice bright tan markings.
Open (4-1)
1), Millar, Millar & Scobie, Yennadon Calvay, This boy has a lovely head with correct proportions and showing the occipital bone, with dark eyes and raised brows showing stop. He has low set ears and moderate length to his neck, well laid shoulders and return of upper arm with plenty of forechest. His elbows are tucked in and he has good bone. He has good spring of rib and slight arch over his loin. His topline is level leading to his well set on tail. He is in super hard condition with his coal black coat shining and his tan markings clear. I was happy to award him BoB.
2), Millers, Liric Just the Ticket, He is a larger framed boy than 1st. His head has the correct proportions of muzzle to skull, dark eye and low set ears. His neck is of moderate length and shoulders are laid back elbows are neat and he has good bone. He has good spring of rib and slight arch over his loin. His topline is level. He has enough stifle and his hocks are short.
