BRITTANY CRITIQUES

HAMPSHIRE GUNDOG SOCIETY 4 MAY 2024

I would like to thank Hampshire Gundog Society for the opportunity to judge the Brittany Classes at their open show. I was very pleased with my entry and would like to thank those exhibitors that entered their dogs. Despite a few absences, I still had some lovely examples to judge on the day.

Class 5 - PUPPY (1,0)

1st – Trois & Hanriot’s Umberto De La Riviere Quareau – Black and White Dog. Full of Brittany exuberance, he was really enjoying his day out and giving his handler a hard time! Took a little time to settle him, but once stood presented a lovely square outline. A well proportioned head, with a moderate stop and well carried, high set ears giving that typical Brittany expression. Good length of leg and correct angulation front and rear. Nice short body. Still needs time to develop, particularly in the chest but is still very young and has plenty of time. Once settled he moved well, with typical gait, although dropped his topline a little. A difficult decision for RBOB as two very different dogs, but this boy had the overall cobby appearance that I was looking for. BP & RBOB

Class 6 – SPECIAL YEARLING (1,0)

1st – Gudgin’s Jassendue Usoa – Orange and White Bitch. This bitch really stood out for me. A very pretty, feminine head - well proportioned with 3 to 2 skull to muzzle ratio and with nothing overdone. Expressive, well placed eyes and short ears carried high. A nice short back, strong loin and with a correct leg to body ratio gave her that all important square outline when viewed side on. Good topline with gentle slope to croup. Lovely clipped action on the move, once fully settled and holding a strong topline. Another young dog with plenty of time on her side and should have a good future. BOB

Class 7 – POST GRADUATE (4,2)

1st – Gudgin’s Jassendue Usoa – Orange and White Bitch

2nd – Dixon’s Capenor Coco Cosette – Orange and White Bitch. Another feminine bitch with a nice head and expression; correct 3 to 2 head proportions, tapered muzzle and moderate stop. Short back and correct angulation front and rear. A little short in leg making her appear longer , rather than the square, cobby appearance I was looking for . Moved well with typical gait, although dropped her topline a little on the move.

Class 8 – OPEN (4,3)

1st – Dixon’s Capenor Coco Cosette – Orange and White Bitch
