Horley & District Show Society

Premier Open Show

Sunday 25th August 2024

I’d like to thank the Officers and Committee or Horley & District for their kind invitation to judge at this lovely summer show. The weather was kind although the wind had a bite to it. Thank you to my steward Sue for her help all day, also to the exhibitors for their entries, as I am honoured to be able to judge your dogs.

IRISH SETTER

Puppy – no entries

Junior 2

1st Mason Cataluna Mad About you in Finity

16 month bitch, feminine all through, lovely head, balanced outline with good length to neck which flows into her slightly sloping topline giving that racy appearance. She has good depth, decent front and rear angulation with well turned stifle. She’s well muscled and moves out well with reach and drive

2nd Pewsey Wentworth White

14 month male, who’s head is masculine with good width of skull. He is straight in front but just needs to drop a little more in chest to balance him out. Decent angles front and rear. His movement was a bit erratic, but he was shown in good coat and condition.

Post Graduate 3

1st Williamson Casleys United with Bluesprings

18 month bitch, lovely balanced head, super length of neck, clean over the shoulder flowing into her gently sloping topline, she has good front angulation, good depth of chest and strong rear quarters that are well muscled. She moves out with style showing her racy outline with head held high, moving with reach and drive. Best mover today, and happy to award her BOB

2nd Lake Bluesprings Blarney

Masculine dog of three years, loved his head that is balanced with good eye shape and colour, broad skull with depth of muzzle. Strong neck, straight front with good bone and tidy feet. Ample depth of chest with strong rear quarters, he just lost out on movement today, but I did like him.

3rd Pewsey Wentworth White

Open Dog 1

1st Richardson Bluesprings Now I’m Here at Forestfire

Super male, who makes a lovely shape when stacked, showing a balanced outline that has substance all through. Head is masculine, he has good length to neck, super depth with good angles at both ends, good width of thigh, well boned with near feet. He took a while to settle but he moved well once he did. RBOB

SPANIEL COCKER

Puppy 3 (1)

1st Griffin Griffial All My Loving

9 month gold bitch, pretty head that’s balanced with good eye colour. She is developing well and has good depth and forchest for her age. She has a good length of neck into level topline which she held on the move. Decent angles at both ends, and moved out well with typical cocker bustle. Happy to award her BP and RBOB.

 2nd Conway Laproche Bluey Spots

Pretty 9 months B/R bitch, still very much in the developmental stage all through. Enough neck square in outline, enough depth, straight front, she’s a tad straight in stifle, moved happily holding her topline.

Junior 3 (2)

1st Taylor-Kistner Merry Cocktails Spice of Life at Freljoanipa (Imp Swe)

16 month black bitch, head is a little strong for me, she is square and cobby, although she’s carrying some weight over her shoulders, which spoils the flow into her topline. I do feel her handler would get a better shape from her stacked if she held head up under the jaw. She moves happily with that merry Cocker movement.

Post Graduate 3 (2)

1st Griffin Griffial Make it Count JW

Lovely B/R bitch, feminine head good length of neck, she presents a good shape when stacked, straight front, with good depth to brisket and well developed forchest. Good return of upper arm decent depth of chest and well muscled rear quarters with moderately bent stifle. She’s a touch close at the back, but she strides out in profile. BOB

This lovely well balanced liver bitch of 2 years is what I was looking for today, she has the best of heads, which is feminine, with good length to muzzle and eyes of correct colour and shape giving a gentle expression. She is well developed in front with great forchest good bone and neat feet. Her strong neck is of good length and flows seamlessly into her level topline, she has strength through her body but remains feminine. Her well made rear quarters drive her around the ring with ease. She moves out well in all directions, and makes good use of her tail. BOB
