Lhasa Apso Association Of Wales And South West

Lhasa Apso Association of Wales and South West.

Open Show held on Friday 7th June 2024

I’d like to thank the committee of LAAWSW for the inviting me to judge my first Lhasa Apso club show and for the lovely gift, I really enjoyed my day. Thank you to Alan & Russell for keeping the ring running like clockwork, and finally, sincere thanks to everyone who entered.

There was a real mix in type, but I could appreciate the qualities in each. On the whole, presentation was excellent and the majority of dogs had good coat texture. I found a real variation in mouths, whilst the majority had good mouths, I did find a few with level bites, jumbled top teeth and narrow jaws. I also had a couple with over-angulated hindquarters and quite a few with weak backends, who shuffled or moved very closely behind. I was very happy with my winners and a few could change places on another day.

MPD (3)

1st Hall, Bell & Ellis’ Shenedene the Gambler with Vallena.

Gold & white, 8 months. Appealed instantly for type. Lovely outline with nothing overdone. Balanced head with moderately narrow skull, falling away behind his dark, oval eyes, medium stop, broad jaw and correct bite. Good neck flowing into well-laid shoulders. Good depth of chest, excels in topline and rib. Tail well-set and carried. Hard coat presented to perfection. Moved well. BPD, pushed hard for BPIS but just didn’t show as well with the change of handler.

2nd Adam-Slomkowski's Frank Dreamed a Dream at Skylax

Another promising puppy. Not as mature in body as the winner. Nice head, eye, and expression. Lovely body shape, firm topline and good tail-set. Moved with jaunty action, need to tighten in rear but has time on his side. Hard coat, which was well presented.

3rd Yaxley’s Dardenelles Robbi Williams

PD (1)

1st Saunders’ Zentarr Don Juan from Bellellen

Appealing grey, 11 months. Balanced outline with good height to length ratio. Level topline and correct tail-set. Lovely angles front and rear with good depth of chest. Classic head which is narrow with a good length of muzzle and broad jaw. Well-presented, hard coat. Moved out well.

JD (1)

1st Cleaver’s Wrenwrox King’s Vow into Risondock

Black dog who tested his handler today. Very nice over the body with excellent ribbing and depth of chest. Good bone and substance, straight forelegs and well-angulated rear. He has a well-placed eye and broad jaw, but a touch broad in skull for me and I would prefer more length to muzzle to give the expression I was looking for. Moved well initially then decided he’d had enough.

YD (1)

1st Roberts’ Mytilene Back to Black into Marbledale Jw

Black dog with the most beautiful head and expression. His head is beautifully balanced with medium stop. Skull moderately narrow with good fall away. Dark, oval eyes, correct length of muzzle and broad jaw, giving an arrogant, but kind expression. Good length of neck and well-laid shoulders. Firm, level topline with excellent rib and substance. Coat has good texture, but he’s just lacking some undercoat at the moment. Moved out well with jaunty action.

PGD (3)

1st Cleaver’s Risondock Ace I Could Keep

Very attractive g/w with 1st class presentation. Nice head with dark eye, correct mouth and broad jaw. Level topline and correct length of back, balanced all through with good ribbing and depth of chest. Nicely angulated rear but would prefer a better lay back of shoulder and a touch more neck to complete the picture. Moved well, holding his topline.

2nd Harris’ Vonstry What a Stunner

Grey Brindle who is so balanced. Moderately narrow skull with dark oval eyes and good length of muzzle. Lovely outline with nice angulation front and rear. Good bone and substance. Moved well.

3rd Jones’ Tarandes Time Bear

LD (2)

1st Considine’s Gallerio I’ll Take You Dancin for Denzka Jw

Gold parti with lovely outline. Balanced head with medium stop and good chin. Arched neck flowing into well-laid shoulders. Nice length of back with level topline, good angulation front and rear and correct tail-set. Quality coat of good texture. I would prefer more substance, just a touch narrow for me. Moves very well.

2nd Sutcliffe’s Newcliffe Kia Ora Jw

Gold who has the body and substance I prefer in a male. Pleasing head and expression, good mouth with broad jaw. Level topline and nice rear angulation. Beautiful, hard coat texture and he was groomed to perfection. Would prefer a better lay of shoulder. Moved well fore and aft, but just lacked animation when going around.

OD (3)

1st Yaxley’s Ch Zentarr Gordon at Dardanelles

Gold who is well made and nicely balanced. I liked his head and expression, his skull is moderately narrow with fall away, medium stop, dark, oval eyes and good chin and mouth. Enough neck, level topline with great tail-set. Ribs extending well-back. He has a nicely angulated rear, and correct lay of shoulder and length of upper arm. Coat has a great texture and was very well presented. Very sound on the move with a lovely length of stride and no kick up. Pushed the veteran hard in the challenge. RBD.

2nd Revillas Rodriguez’s Swiss Ch Crystal Eye’s Wam Bam Boom at Khumbila Jw (imp DNK)

This young man is a wow dog! Instantly demands attention with his fabulous outline. He is very stylish and a complete showman. He excels in neck and shoulder, his arched neck flows into correct shoulder and level top line. Excellent upper-arm and straight forelegs. Good substance and well- muscled hindquarters. Well-balanced, masculine head and expression. His B/w jacket was gleaming. He powered round the ring with a good length of stride. I’m sure he’ll go on to gain his UK title, I just preferred the moderation of the winner.

3rd Harris’ Vonstry Mr Sunshine

VD (3,1a)

1st Saunders’ Ch Bellellen Double Ducie Jw

I don’t think there’s much I can say about this dog that hasn’t been said already! He really is a fabulous example of the breed, and still giving it his all at 8 years young. He has an eye-catching outline which he holds on the move. Arched neck and super shoulder angulation. Nicely ribbed with strong loin. Level topline with correct tail-set and carriage. Well-presented coat of good texture. Moves true coming and going. Balanced head with strong underjaw. Best Dog & BVIS.

2nd Schuckardt’s Timazinti’s Peppermint at Frenchlands Jw, SHcm, SHcex,Vw.

Heavier all over than 1st, but has a lot to like. First class presentation of a super coat. Balanced head with dark, oval eye. Good beard and whiskers, full dentition with correct bite. Strong neck flows into well-laid shoulders. Good rear angulation and parallel hocks. Moved well.

MPB (3)

3 lovely babies.

1st Roberts’ Marbledale I’ve got Sass

Eye-catching black baby. Only 7 months old, but very mature in body. Lovely head with classic expression. Skull moderately narrow, correct length of muzzle, dark pigmentation & she excels in width of jaw and chin. Strong, arched neck flows into well-laid shoulders and level topline. Tail set on and carried correctly. Well-ribbed with short loin & good depth of chest, well-boned and sturdy. Very jaunty on the move. BPB & BPIS.

2nd Hall & Wiltshire’s Shenedene Two Faced with Thwaitlake

Another promising youngster. Attractive, well-proportioned head and appealing expression. Dark, oval eye with correct pigment. Good length of neck and level topline. Slightly longer in body than 1st, but still nicely balanced. Moves true coming and going.

Well-balanced g/w parti. Nice head with good fallaway behind her dark eyes. Arched neck, correctly laid shoulder and level topline. Sturdy, without being overdone. Good bend of stifle and parallel hocks. Well-presented coat, which has a lovely texture. Moved well.

2nd Taylor & Johnson’s Wrenwrox Royal Gem avec Sifrason

Black, just into junior and giving a lot away in maturity. Balanced head with lovely eye and expression. Well-ribbed, with compact loin. Level topline and good tail-set. Moved well in profile, with jaunty gait, but a bit close behind. Well-presented coat of hard texture. Would prefer her to be a touch longer to give the balanced outline I was looking for.

3rd Considine’s Denzka Sunshine of Life

YB (2,1a)

1st Denzka Sunshine of My Life

1st Hall’s Shenedene Copy and Paste

Gorgeous gold, not quite 2 years old. Balanced head with dark, oval eye and excellent pigment. Correct bite with broad jaw and good chin. Strong, arched neck which flows into correctly laid shoulders. Good length of upperarm and tight elbows. Correct depth of chest and well-ribbed. Sturdy with good bone. Straight forelegs and well-angulated rear. Firm topline with well-set tail. Quality coat, which was well presented. Sound on the move. BB & BIS

2nd Schuckard’s Kutani Black Opal at Frenchlands Jw

Feminine black girl, who was a real surprise! Didn’t catch my eye on first glance, but is so sound all through. Lovely head proportions with medium stop and narrow skull. Good bone and substance. Level topline and good tail set. Nicely ribbed with compact loin. Moved with a lovely jaunty action. Shown in good coat and condition. RBB, RBIS.

3rd Revillas – Rodriguez's Crystal Eye’s Whole Shebang at Khumbila (imp DNK)

OB (3)

1st Chambers’ Ch Kutani Enigma

Feminine gold with balanced outline. Nice head with medium stop and narrow skull. Dark, oval eye, correct bite and pigmentation. Super body shape, which she held on the move. A real show girl, animated and sound moving out and back. Nice action in profile, without being overdone. Coat of correct texture, which was well-presented. I just preferred the sturdiness of my main winners.

2nd Lewis’ Ch Deelayne Jennifer Joy

I was splitting hairs between these two champion girls. Another with a good head and feminine expression. Balanced and sturdy with good ribbing and compact loin. Sound mover with correct action, but just didn’t hold her shape as well as 1st on the move.

3rd Carter’s Avonbourne Cilla Black at Vowchurch
