Midland Lhasa Apso Association

31st August 2024

Judge: Miss L Tarabad (Khatibi)

I was delighted to be invited to judge this club show in partnership with the City of Birmingham champ show. With an entry of 60 dog and just 5 absent I really was spoilt for choice and thank all the exhibitors who entered and came to the show extra early to show at the club show before the main champ show! It was a little bit of a challenge contending with the rattling drains under the carpet plus a rather noisy SBT club show in the next ring which together really did unsettle some of the dogs. This did affect movement and was reflected in the placings with some further down the line than they would have been if they were more settled. But I had to judge the dogs on the day and there were still plenty of quality dogs who had no problem with the distractions and showed their socks off!

MPD (1)

1.Devereux & Richardson-Black's Belazieth Fast’N’Furious. 8month b/w who was the first victim of the rattling drains and just wouldn’t move as well as I’m sure he could. Masculine head with dark eyes, balanced length of muzzle and good mouth. Decent shoulders, good chest and ribbing, well angulated rear and presents a nicely balanced outline when stood. Well presented and sympathetically handled. I’m sure he’ll have much better days!

PD (2,1)

1.Hall, Bell & Ellis’s Shenedene The Gambler with Vallena. Standing alone but a more than worthy winner. Sturdy and compact with a nicely balanced outline, strong arched neck, firm topline and well set and carried tail. Good bone and substance, chest and ribbing developing well for age, well angulated rear with good width behind. Masculine head with dark eyes, dense pigment, correct length of muzzle and broad jaw. Moved with a free gait, using his rear well and holding his outline firm. In quality coat, presented beautifully. BPD and BPIS.

JD (6)

1.Saunders’ Zentarr Don Juan From Bellellen. Lovely 13month old who’s size and balance appealed greatly. Compact and sturdy with lovely neck, topline and tail carriage, well ribbed back, strong loin and well constructed rear. Correctly shaped head with well balanced length of muzzle, dark eyes and typical expression. Moved with a lovely jaunty action, accurate out and back and using himself well in profile. Unfortunately he returned to the challenge in a typical Apso stubborn mood and just didn’t want to move how he had in the class which was disappointing as he could certainly have challenged for higher honours.

2.Barnett & Carter’s Marbledene Parti Time. 11month old puppy who stood his own in this junior class and was expertly handled to get the best out of him. A little stronger in head than 1 with dark eyes and correct length of muzzle. Balanced front and rear angulation, firm topline and tail carried well over his back. Lovely action on the move, free and jaunty, carrying himself with confidence.

3.Clutterbuck & Jackson’s Myakara Maximilian.

YD (2)

1.Logan’s Spyanki Eobard Thawne. Placed 5th in the previous class. A little more of him than my ideal but certainly soundly constructed with good neck, level topline, high set tail carried well. Well furnished masculine head with dense pigment and dark eyes. Had the edge here on the move displaying a sound, jaunty action.

2.Forsyth’s Nadarley Majestic Murphy. I preferred the size of this boy but he didn’t have the substance of 1 and was quite narrow in front which was reflected in his movement coming towards. Well proportioned head with medium stop, super pigment and snooty expression. Moved happily.

PGD (5)

1.Anderson’s Zentarr Hendricks. Small, compact 3yr old who was the best here for type and movement. Well balanced in profile with arched neck, firm topline, decent shoulders, well ribbed back, strong loin and well angulated rear. Lovely head, moderately narrow with medium stop, good length and finish to muzzle, broad underjaw and dark eyes. Looked lovely moving in profile circling the ring with a free, typical action holding his outline firm. In quality coat of the correct texture.

2.Lawson’s Rishlyns Jamie Fraser. At first glance I thought this was my winner, unfortunately his handler just couldn’t get him settled enough on the move so he had to settled for 2nd. Presented a lovely outline when stood, small, compact and study with adequate reach of neck, tail set high and carried well over his back. Lovely head and expression with dark oval eyes, correct length of muzzle, broad jaw and dense pigment. He moved well and carried his tail correctly each time he started to settle but I’m sure would make much more of himself on another day.

3.Harris’s Vonstry What A Stunner.

LD (6,1)

1.Chesterfield’s Phareal Heartbreaker Into Burnsett. Very nicely constructed 3year old with lovely neck and shoulders, straight front, good chest and ribbing, level back high set tail and well angulated rear of good width. Masculine head of good proportions with lovely eyes, good muzzle and width of underjaw and lovely expression. Moved soundly and accurately holding his outline firm and covering the ground with a decent length of stride. In well presented, quality coat and with a lovely attitude in the ring. Couldn’t quite match the head and finish of the open dog but I really liked him for soundness and balance. RBD.

2.Lightfoot’s Dardanelles Prime Suspect for Telshotbriar. Beautifully presented 4 yr old, soundly made and balanced throughout with super neck, topline and tail carriage, carrying a fabulous coat and presenting an impressive outline in profile. Nice head and expression with fabulous furnishings, moving with a lovely action in profile, not quite as good out and back as 1.

3.Forsyth’s Nadarley Quartz Hugo

OD (5)

1.Hazelhurst’s Corrolls Easy Rider. When this 3yr old walked into the ring I couldn’t help but be instantly impressed. A masterclass in presentation with his coat gleaming with health, every hair in the right place and a handler who obviously knows how to get the very best out of his dogs. Beautiful outline with head carried proudly on a strong, arched neck, well constructed front with good length of leg and layback of shoulder, well ribbed back to strong loin and well muscled rear with super tail carriage. Handsome head, correctly shaped with dark eyes, dense pigment, good width of jaw and typical apso expression. Lovely jaunty mover, holding his outline firm, circling the ring with confidence, accurate out and back. Delighted to award him BD and BOS and heard that he also took the CC at the champ show later in the day, congratulations!

2.Harris’s Vonstry Mr Sunshine. Another nice one in full bloom, a little longer than 1 with good bone and substance, sturdily built with firm topline and tail carried well over his back. Pleasing head and expression with dark eyes and correct length of muzzle. Sound and happy on the move, particularly good out and back.

3.Crook & Kindness’s Kelankin Ghost Ryder with Charjilliam.

VD (1)

1.Watts’ Ch. Timazinti Britskii at Kenida. 8yr old gentleman hiding his years well, presented in quality coat with a nice outline, compact and sturdy with level topline and high set tail. Lovely, well furnished head with good width of jaw, dark oval eyes, medium stop and a super expression. Moved happily using his rear well, parallel away, could be better in front. BVIS.

Sp Beg D (2)

1.Adam-Slomkowski's Frank Dreamed A Dream at Skylax (Imp Pol). 11month old baby with a smart outline and such a cheeky face! Nice size and balanced length of body, well ribbed back, firm topline and well angulated rear. Appealing head and expression with lovely eyes, well balanced muzzle and good width of jaw. Moved well in the class, lovely out and back, wasn’t quite as cooperative in the challenge! Best Special Beginner.

2.Ferguson’s Culversapso Plz Plz Me at Kelkenso. Another who wasn’t that happy on the move unfortunately. Small and sturdy, firm topline and well angulated rear, would like just a little more length of body for balance. Very well furnished head with dark eyes and dense pigment. In lovely condition and handled sympathetically.

MPB (4,1)

1.Chesterfield’s Kalizmar Vogue into Burnsett. 7month old baby, nice size with good substance and balance of outline. Could have a little more angulation front and back but is balanced both ends allowing for a free, jaunty action, moving accurately out and back. Pretty face with dark eyes and good mouth. Well presented and handled, just needs to settle in topline as she matures.

2.O’Doherty & Cain’s Kutani Astra. This little girl was rather a handful! Appealed greatly at first glance, unfortunately was rather unsettled on the move and wouldn’t use her tail. Sturdily built with good neck, well ribbed back, good topline and tailset. Moved accurately out and back and was presented beautifully. I’m sure she’ll have better days.

3.Krupa's Wrenwrox Heart Of Gold.

PB (3)

1.Hall & Wiltshire’s Shenedene Two Faced with Thwaitlake. Litter sister to the bp and built on similar lines. Nicely balanced head with correct length of muzzle, nice dark eyes, good length and finish of muzzle with good width of jaw and lovely expression. Strong neck into good shoulders, firm topline with tail set high and well angulated rear. Handled expertly and presented in super coat and condition. Moved with a confident, free action holding her outline firm. BPB.

2.Lawson’s Modarra’s Versace. Close up here, a little smaller than 1 but still with the correct balance and an appealing outline. Compact and sturdy with good front and rear assembly, well sprung ribs, short loin and good tail set and carriage. Very pretty feminine head with broad jaw, dense pigment and dark oval eyes. Better moving out and back than 1 but just seemed to be a little less confident so didn’t hold her outline quite as well as 1 in profile. Nevertheless I really liked her and will be interested to see how she matures.

3.Clutterbuck’s Timazinti Gin Fizz.

JB (3)

1.Taylor & Johnson’s Wrenwrox Royal Gem Avec Sifrason JW. Quite beautiful 15month black in pristine coat and condition, handled perfectly and absolutely didn’t put a foot wrong each time she entered the ring. Loved her smart outline with lovely balance, small, feminine and sturdy with ample reach of arched neck, firm topline and tail carried well over her back. Good front and rear angulation with correct length of leg and body, well ribbed back to short loin and well muscled rear. Gorgeous head and typical apso expression, beautiful dark eyes, medium stop, correct length of muzzle with lovely mouth and underjaw. Moved with a free, jaunty, confident action maintaining her outline as she circled the ring. Could have a little more width behind and at her young age she still has some maturing to do but I thought she was superb and thoroughly deserved to not only top the bitch entry but ultimately take BIS, and if the applause was anything to go by she seemed to be a popular choice! BB, BIS.

2.Anderson’s Zentarr Bethsheba. Similar in size and shape to 1 but not quite the finish yet. Nice neck into decent shoulders, good ribbing and short loin, level topline and well set and carried tail. Sweet face with dense pigment, nice eyes and expression. Moving freely and holding her outline firm.

3.Thompson’s Toynbee Sorella Bella.

YB (4)

1.Crook & Hall’s Shenedene Kiss My Pix Sell with Charjilliam. Lovely youngster, mature for her age and with superb furnishings. Nice outline with strong neck, decent shoulders, good ribbing and well angulated rear. Well proportioned head with dark oval eyes, well finished muzzle and dense pigment. Moved confidently covering the ground a little better than 2 and more accurately coming towards.

2.Barnett & Carter’s Skylax Best Part of Me Into Alamiks JW. Close up to 1 and very similar in size and shape with adequate reach of neck, well angulated rear, firm topline and high set tail. Very pretty feminine head with good width of jaw and nice eyes. Moved freely and happily but could be a little better in front. Presented in nice coat.

3.Hinshelwood’s Muirfauld Mirror Image JW.

PGB (4,2)

1.O’Doherty’s Autumnspell Heaven Sent JW. Eyecatching exhibit who was BP last time I judged and she certainly seems to be fulfilling her early promise. Presents a very appealing outline in profile with strong arched neck, straight front, strong parallel rear, firm topline, good chest and ribbing. Appealing feminine head with nice eyes, correct length of muzzle, good mouth and width of jaw. Lovely jaunty action, super out and back and has certainly still got the feisty attitude she had as a puppy!

2.Chesterfield’s Ithera Dulce De Leche Into Burnsett. Another nice one, not yet 2yrs old and not quite the substance or finish of 1 at present. Nice balance of outline with arched neck and well set and carried tail. Correctly shaped head with nice eyes and typical expression. Moved soundly, accurate out and back, didn’t hold her outline as well as 1 in profile.

LB (6) A very close decision here between 1 & 2, both of whom won classes under me last time and both still appeal greatly.

1.Barnett & Carter’s Alamiks Perfect Illusion. Small, sturdy and compact with a well balanced outline she holds perfectly both standing and on the move. Strong arched neck, good angulation fore and aft, well ribbed back to short loin and parallel rear. Firm level topline with tail set and carried well over her back. Pretty head of good proportions, medium stop, dark eyes and good width of jaw. Moved with purpose and a typical action, lovely out and back and looking very nice in profile. Expertly handled.

2.Culverhouse & Roberts’ Culversapso Penny Lane JW. So similar in size and shape and equally as soundly made with accurate movement to match. Beautiful head and expression and carrying a fabulous coat which was presented to perfection. I said last time I thought she was champion quality and my opinion hasn’t changed but she just didn’t seem to be on her toes and although accurate, wasn’t moving with the attitude and carriage of 1. Nevertheless a super example of the breed and easily amongst the best in the entry.

3.Hall’s Shenedene Out Of Miss World.

OB (4)

1.Hall’s Ch. Shenedene Copy And Paste. 2yr old who immediately caught my eye. Loved her neatly balanced outline with lovely neck, straight front, good ribbing and topline with tail set high and carried well over her back. Sturdy and compact with correct length of leg and body, good bone and well muscled rear. Correctly shaped and well proportioned head with lovely dark eyes, medium stop, good width of jaw and finish to muzzle and super typical expression. In lovely quality coat and beautiful condition throughout. Moved with accuracy and style. It did seem like the handler was perhaps not that experienced in handling a coated breed and was a little flustered when he first entered the ring and had to get her stacked and brushed however her quality was obvious and he soon had her standing perfectly which made for a very close decision in the challenge. Not surprised to see she is a champion and my decision could easily have gone either way but on the day she had to settle for RBB and RBIS.

2.Lewis’s Ch. Deelayne Jennifer Joy. Yet another quality exhibit (I really was spoilt for choice!). Not much to split 1 & 2 in size and shape and again presents a nicely balanced outline, has lovely substance and bone, good ribbing and topline. Feminine head with appealing expression, correct length of muzzle and width of jaw. Moved with a free, typical action, accurate going away but couldn’t match the front of 1. Quality coat and handled to an advantage.

3.Connett’s Corroll’s To Hot To Handle.

VB (1)

1.Sutcliffe’s Newcliffe Luisa-Lace. Very sturdily built 7yr old with such a cheeky face! Compact and balanced with good neck and shoulders, level topline, high set tail and well angulated rear. Well shaped head of correct proportions, lovely dark eyes and dense pigment. Moved with accuracy out and back and freely in profile. Super heavy coat and such a great temperament. BVB.
