Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers

I was delighted to be invited to judge my breed, soft coated wheaten terriers, and happy to travel from Scotland for the honour.

I had a small entry but was pleased with the dogs entered. We must remember that 'flashy and speedily' doesn’t equate to correct. My entries were all correctly moderate, in a breed which calls for moderation, with nothing over done. There is indeed hope for the breed in the future.

SCWT

Junior, (1, 0)

1st, Amel-Azizpour's Crofftysofty Hay Jude, D, 15 month old boy with a correct coat for age, that is maturing nicely and is in excellent groom. Strong masculine head with parallel planes, excellent pigment, and big white teeth correctly set in jaw. A moderate dog of good size. A dog looking like a dog with topline level, elbows nice and tight, depth of chest and tail held high on the move. I would have preferred a little more drive to show off the strength in his strong rear. There was so much to like about this boy and did seriously consider him for RBOB in the challenge. His day will come!

Post Graduate, (2,1)

1st, as above in Junior class, same comments apply though dog moved better.

Open, (2,0),

1St, Tilley’s Brynhir Born to Boogie at Starzak ShCM, B, A lovely feminine 2.5y old bitch who again displayed so many qualities desired in the breed. I loved her for size and coat type which was fine and silky with an nice open wave. Head, mouth and earset good, nice dark eye with correct pigment. Good length of neck, moderate width of front, good deep chest and strong of loin. Feet tight and correct colour nails. Best mover of the day. BOB and awarded a group placing.

2nd, Jones’ Saffini Suga Pie Honey Bunch, B, I had to ask twice how old this bitch was as I thought I misheard; 8 years young and at times acting like a frisky pup! This was the one I wanted to take home. Loved her for her correct coat, colour, size and that ‘melt your heart’ wheaten expression. Nice length neck leading into well laid shoulders and a well sprung chest. Good length of forearm and strong pasterns for a mature lady. ‘Lively’ on the move but when settled, she moved steadily with drive, maintaining a level topline and correctly carried tail. Awarded RBOB
