Goosnargh & Longridge Agricultural Society

GOOSNARGH & LONGRIDGE AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY OPEN SHOW. SATURDAY 6th JULY 2024. It was a great pleasure to judge at one of my local agricultural shows and would like to express my thanks to David Howarth and his hard working committee for their kind invitation and hospitality. Many thanks to all the exhibitors who supported me on the day, accepted my decisions with great sportsmanship and for giving me the honour of assessing your beautiful dogs. Huge appreciation goes to my two stewards, who efficiently ensured the ring ran smoothly throughout. I was thrilled to see both breeds I judged taking top honours in the working groups later in the day. DOGUE DE BORDEAUX. OPEN.(1,1) 1st. Mrs S & Miss J Judd – Tissie’s Red Dawn. A quality well balanced, harmonious two year old red female. Trapezoid head with the correct amount of wrinkle displaying the breed typical forbidding expression, clean hazel eyes set wide apart, undershot dentition. Good depth and width of chest, straight front leading onto neat, tight feet. Strong topline dipping just behind the withers. Excellent rear angles. A powerful build yet still retains so much femininity and nothing is over exaggerated on this girl. She moved out with ease around the ring, dropping her head as she gained pace. Even though she stood alone she more than deserved her BEST OF BREED award, and I was so pleased to watch her go on later in the day, in a very strong working group line up take WORKING GROUP 2. A great representation of the breed. ROTTWEILER. My first appointment judging a breed I have always admired, I was pleased to have some lovely dogs present and all were of beautiful sound temperaments. Puppy (1,1) 1st. Miss E Brereton – Heidevans Unstoppable. A delightful six month old puppy, who is just learning her craft. Head and skull developing well with good ratio’s, expressive dark almond shaped eyes, good bite. Straight front with strong bone. Neck powerful and of good length. Well bodied for one so young, good depth of brisket and well sprung ribs. Hind quarters showing the development of visible muscle. Correct coarse black coat of good texture with well defined tan markings. A little unsettled on the move today, would prefer a better tail carriage. I will watch her progress as she develops. I was pleased to award her BEST PUPPY and later went on to take WORKING PUPPY GROUP 3. Post Graduate (2,2) 1st. Miss E Brereton – Casey Wizard Montenegro. So much to like about this balanced 23 month old female who presents a lovely shape, with a compact, powerful appearance. Shown in excellent condition, her black coat looked so polished. A beautiful expressive feminine head, ears used and held well, strong muzzle, defined stop and good scissor bite dentition, clean dark eye of correct shape. Straight front leading onto tight feet with toes well arched, a very well developed forechest. I liked her angles front and rear with good body to height ratio. She moved with super reach and drive and held her topline and shape at all times. Handled very well to get the best out of her. 2nd.Mrs C & Mr S Child – Taneven Astrum. What a delightful character, the happiest 4-year-old female whose personality could match that of a six month old puppy. A smaller female in build than my winner and finer in bone, forehead moderately arched with kind dark clean eyes, wide opened nostrils. When viewed from the side displayed a good outline with correct angles in the rear. On the move she really worked her handler and was having way too much fun to focus on her job today which made it difficult to give a full assessment. Open (2,3) 1st. Miss D Egerton & Ms E Sutcliffe – Bereyda The Real Defender JW. A very impressive large, powerful male of just 21 months of age. Strong masculine head of good proportions, broad skull with correct ear placement, clean almond shaped dark eyes giving a confident, alert expression, good dentition. Moderately arched neck of good length, straight front with well boned limbs, chest broad and deep, strong topline, just slightly longer in cast. Groomed to perfection with his shiny black coarse coat and clearly defined tan markings. Angulation of the hindquarters balanced with that of the forequarters. On the move he really came into his own covering the ground with power and precise footfall which looked effortless, supple and showing great strength and endurance, whilst displaying the correct tail carriage, expertly handled. I was pleased to award him BEST OF BREED and it was a joy to watch him in the group, where he put in a great performance and throughly deserved his WORKING GROUP 1 PLACING. I will look forward to watching his progress as he matures, I am confident he will have a very bright future ahead of him. 2nd. Mrs C & Mr S Child – Taneven Astrum. As of previous class.
