Open Show

3rd April 2024

A huge thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge these lovely breeds at a lovely friendly show. Thank you to all my exhibitors who entered and brought their dogs for me to go over, it was a lovely day (well the rain held off) and I got a chance to catch up with a few people and watch some other breeds I admire.

(Retreiver) Chesepeake Bay

Class 64 Junior – (1, 0)

1st Arnac Bay jellicoe (B) Owned by Mrs C Mayhew & Ms J Middleton – 10 month old bitch of good size and shape even though still more to come, good medium length neck with good shape well set into good lay of shoulder, good muscle for age and well boned with strait legs and very good feet, despite her age her rib is starting to spring and she is well bodied with good strong back. Hind quarters slightly higher than withers, good thick tail and good coat coming through with correct undercoat, well angulated at the rear. I would like a bit more size on her head but this is her age and I am sure this will come. Moved really well round my ring to take BPIB, & BOB.

Class 65 Post Graduate (1,1)

absent

Class 66 Open (2,1)

1st SH CH Arnac Bay Hebe WGC ShCEx EW22 (B) Owned by Mrs C Mayhew & Ms J Middleton – 5½ year old girl with a lot to like, very similar to junior girl just more mature, apparently mother to the young one. Good coat, well angulated for and aft, good neck and head, proper double coat. Prefered her head to her daughters but she lost out on movement and overall presence. RBOB

(Retriever) Curly Coated

Class 67 Puppy (1,1)

Absent

Class 68 Junior (2,1)

1st Overbore Roman Candle (D) Owned by Mr EJ Leggett – 17 month old large boy, with good head and planes, dark eye and good pigmentation. Correct coat, strait front with good width, well angulated front and good tight feet with well arched toes. Moved OK.

Class 69 Post Graduate (5,1)

1st Tessmene Icing on the Cake by Kagemusha (B) Owned by Mr R Richards & Ms G Flaher – 19 month old lovely liver bitch, with good head, correct high ear set, good coat. Medium length of neck into well laid shoulders, good strait legs and good feet, well angulated behind as well, good tail set and moved well keeping her top line on the move, would just like her to be a bit bigger overall. Pleased to award her RBOB

2nd Foxreiver Grey Ghost (D) Owned by Mrs E Sutton & Mrs E & Mr A Whitehead – another 19 month old, good head and ear set well laid shoulders and good tight feet. A little longer cast than 1st and didn't move out as well round the ring.

3rd Tessmene Tornado's Trail (D)

Class 70 Open (4,2)

1st Hopeall and AAT's Bud Spencer (Imp GER) Deu JCH (D) Owned by Mrs E Sutton – nice head and ear set, nice solid boy, good front angulation, enough bone, good coat, good tight feet, well muscled, moved OK. BOB

2nd TessmeneTop Notch by Kagemusha (B) Owned by Mr R Richards & Ms G Flaher – heavier in head than the winner but good ear set and correct eye, well laid shoulders and good bone. Good tail set.

Irish Water Spaniel

Class 124 Junior (1,0)

1st Cambridgecurl Aileen Fox (B) Owned by Prof CAT Stoddart – nice young girl not quite 15 months who I have watched go from strength to strength and is continuing to come out of her shell. She is a nice size, has good bone, and is well angulated front and back and moved well round the ring. Good coat.

Class 125 Post Graduate (1,0)

1st Finchsmill Secret Surprise (B) Owned by Mrs J & Mr BK Williamson – Lovely young girl with a lot to like, good size, lovely head and dark eye, with good angulation all round. Good feet and bone. Had decided her coat was not really required but what she had was correct and they do not need to be over coated. She did also decide though that moving round the ring pulling and leaning on her lead was the order of the day, and would not settle. Lost her top honours today. RBOB

Class 126 Open (1,0)

1st Fynder Reacher (D) Owned by Ms L Latherton – this super boy is everything you would expect in an IWS – he is well constructed, has a good coat, moves really well due to good angulation. His head is fab and his eye the correct shape and dark. He has good bone and good feet. I would like him to be a little smaller but he is all in proportion and I was pleased to award him BOB.
