Derbyshire Agricultural & Horticultural Society

Breed: Chihuahua (Long Coat)
Derbyshire Agricultural & Horticultural Society, County Dog Show (23.06.24) Chihuahua’s Thank you to the society for asking me to be the replacement judge on short notice for my first appointment of Chihuahuas of both coats and to my steward Alex for keeping the ring flowing in a timely organised manner. Although the entry was small with some absentees the qualities of exhibits were very good. Long Coat Chihuahua: Puppy (0,0) Junior (1,0) 1st, Kirdanchi Le Ballet Giselle (Mrs S Holland- Smith) 12 months old, cream bitch, petite & feminine with all the right proportions. Alert and sassy! Something I like to see is the character of this breed and she definitely has it! Dark pigmentation, large eyes, correct ears used well, lovely bite & moderate stop. Plenty of coat, sickle tail and good turn of stifle. Well laid shoulders and a level topline held well on the move as well as standing. Initially on the move she wasn’t as settled possibly due to the longer grass, but in the challenge really excelled, moving well. Best of Breed. Post Graduate (1,1) Open (2,1) 1st Oozora Queen Of Mystery JW (Mrs S Holland-Smith) Another feminine bitch, 6 years old of a nice size with a lot to like. Lovely apple dome head , flaring ears and large dark eyes and dark pigmentation. Good dentition and moderate stop. Nice deep chest, spring of rib and level topline. Well presented in full coat and when settled moved well with correct sickled tail. In the challenge she had to settle for reserve best of breed as became unsettled, otherwise my choice would have become very difficult. Smooth Coat Chihuahua: Puppy ( 3,1) 1st Toltetchi’s Dante Le Poete (Mr H Stading) 7 Months old, more mature tri colour male, Alert, coat gleaming, really draws your eye to him. Lovely head, correct flaring ears and super bite. Medium neck flowing into a level top line, nice spring of rib, moves so swiftly round the ring, really shows himself of on the move. Seen this young and upcoming pup at the ringside at many shows and I look forward to seeing him progress, as I’m sure he will. Reserve Best of Breed & Best puppy In Breed. 2nd Anadeia Eowyn ( Mrs A Burrows) 9 months old Fawn male, another nice puppy, who showed well. Great typical Chihuahua head, nice mouth, moderate stop and used ears well. Dark pigmentation. Moved well around the ring, holding a level top line and sickle tail on the move as well as standing. Unlucky to meet 1 who had more drive on the move. Post Graduate (3,3) Open (2,1) Moltobello Miss Myrtle Of Hulawawas ( Miss W J Smith) 3 year old tri colour Bitch, on first glance... wow her silhouette on the stand! Alert & ready to go, she knows her job in the show ring. Lovely head, correct mouth, nice stop and muzzle and used her ears well. Matured nicely, medium neck moving into the desired level topline, nice deep chest, tight elbows and good spring of rib. Nicely angulated shoulders and turn of stifle, in no doubt as moves out with ease and drive. Sickled tail at all times. If I was to be critical for ideal id prefer a touch shorter but could not deny her Best of Breed, as mentioned before the silhouette in the challenge just gave her the edge today. Nice to see her shortlisted in to the top 8 in a very large toy group. Josh Parker (Judge)
