Hound Group – Judge John Mackfall (Africaner)

I would like to thank the committee for choosing me to judge the Hound group (Except Rhodesian Ridgebacks) The entry was good, and the venue was excellent. The ring size was adequate but without the mats provided it was slippery for some of the larger dogs. Many of the dogs were youngsters but most had confidence and were handled expertly. I would like to thank the superb ring steward for the day Barry, his knowledge and no fuss professionalism on the day was spot on. I was very happy with my final Hound Group line up and especially to the Group 1 winners who deserved to go into Best in Show.

Basenji. O. 1-0. 1st 169, The Impossible Girl of Alchez, B, Ms CJ &Mr TF Casentieri. Black and tan Coat in good condition, nice head and dark eye, tidy pointed and erect ears, with strong neck of good length. Balanced angulation front and rear, Moderate depth to chest with good lay of shoulder, short level back, high set curled tail, moved straight and true. BOB.

Beagle. J. 1-0. 1st 172, Ivanhoe Cernunnos Mawr (Imp CZE) D, Ms M Pocklington-Hall. pleasing head & expression with a kind eye. Good neck with a level topline, depth of chest & ribbing. Correct feet with good rear quarters which are well muscled. Moved with ease and with a solid stride, one to watch in the future. BPIB.

PG. 1-0. 1st 171, Bayard Bee Good, D, Ms M Pocklington-Hall. good head of nice length, skull slightly domed, well-defined stop, nice dark eye, low set ears, scissor bite, good length of neck into shoulder, good substance, ribs well sprung, level topline, moved with ease and purpose. Happy to award BOB.

Borzoi. PG. 2-1. 1st 173, Palmedees Arian Khrysos At Keanver JW, D, Mr K & Mrs A Dover. Eye catching red and white Borzoi dog. He has a nicely proportioned head with correct bite. Correct shoulder placement with good return of upper arm, deep chest. A very well-balanced outline. He glided around the ring and took my eye on the move. Good extension to his stride with a powerful drive. BOB. HG1.

Dachshund Mini Smooth- Haired. PG. 5-2. 1st 181, Teckeltown The show Girl, B, Miss A Mason. Clean balanced outline which she holds standing and moving, good head and expression, good neck length, level top-line, balanced angulation front and rear, good length to body, elegant and holds well in profile. Moved with ease and expertly handled. BOB BPIB. 2nd 178, Marvale Crimson Sunbird At Teckeltown, B, Miss A Mason. clean balanced profile standing and on the move. Good length to neck, good head and expression, excellent top-line, balanced angulation front and rear. just missed out on top place.

O. 2-0. 1st 179, Teckeltown Lady In Red, B, Miss A Mason. Good proportions, nice kind expression with good eye and an overall balanced head, excellent top-line which held on the move with a well-defined body and excellent reach and drive. 2nd 180, Teckeltown Suspicious Mind, D, Miss A Mason. Nice Black and Tan dog in great condition, balanced and well shown. Good ground clearance and good length and depth to rib. Beautiful head with dark eyes and good ear carriage. Depth in fore chest with well laid shoulders and good length to neck. Looked good on the move with a flowing ease.

Dachshund Mini Long- Haired. O. 1-0. 1st 185, CH Tolberg Beez Kneez At Teckeltown, B, Miss D Mason. A nice red six-and-a-half-year-old girl in great condition throughout and very well presented on the day. She has a nice feminine hound head with dark eye and expression. Good front with good depth to chest and nice shoulder. Good length to body and well balanced on the move holding a level top line on the move. BOB.

Deerhound. O. 1-0. 1st 186, Zeldini Anju At Kaleginy, B, Miss R & Mrs K Cumberland &Constantine. Elegant on the move with good reach and sound movement, good length of tail. Level top line which held on the move. Good length of neck with nicely proportioned head with nice eye shape and expression and ears correctly placed. Good rear angulation and a nice second thigh. BOB.

Irish Wolfhound. PG. 1-0. 1st 187, Wyldwensley Kes, D, Mrs LM McNulty. Masculine head with good dark eye, Ears Folded well. Strong neck with correct layback of shoulder with good length to upper arm. Well knuckled feet. Good rise over the loin and correct fall away. Moved well going and coming, He needs more confidence which will come with age. BOB, BPIB.

O. 1-0. 1st 187, Wyldwensley Kes, D, Mrs LM McNulty.

Saluki. O. 1-0. 1st 188 Caryna Hyperion, D, Mr A & Mrs JA Bloomfield. A well-presented black and silver male with nice proportions overall. Good Hound head with kind expression, beautiful dark oval eyes, and good ear carriage. Good length of neck into well laid shoulders, good depth to chest. Straight forelegs with correct feet and slightly sloping pasterns. Well ribbed with gentle rise over the loin. Moved with ease and grace. BOB.

Whippet. J. 4-0. 1st 192, Wentvally Pied Piper, D, Miss Chaytor. 7 month white and fawn. What a beautiful promising young male. Nice pleasing head with good length of neck. Smooth over the shoulders and deep body. Good balance for age and nothing exaggerated, true coming and going moved with ease. BPIB. 2nd 200, Falconcrag Eye Catcher, B, Mrs G Swain. Beautiful head and kind expression with well-set ears and good eye. Good shoulder and correct angulation both fore and aft. Fine coat with nice muscle tone. Correct spring of pastern and standing on tight feet. An easy, free moving gait, carrying her tail in a delicate curve. Moved true and looked relaxed on the move. PG. 3-0. 1st 195, Demerlay In Your Eyes At Klondyke, B, Mrs Potts. Nice head with strong under jaw. Well-muscled long arched neck into well laid shoulders. Her brisket is deep and correct. Moved with ease and elegance keeping a good top line on the move. RBOB. 2nd 189, Pursenet Love Me Tender, B, Mr TH Cannon. Shown in good condition. Size and proportions are correct. Good Hound head with correct eyes for this coat colour. Balanced, with a calm persona and well handled. Moved true coming and going and was elegant around the ring. Just missed out to 1. O. 4-0. 1st 194, Ramita’s Lady Of Slumber At Conekesheved, B, Mr J & Mrs L McNally. Correct head with kind eye and nicely positioned ears. Long strong neck flowing into a good lay of shoulder into a nicely curved top line with good muscled rear thigh. Correct tail carriage which looked good on the move. Stands well over her front legs followed by a well sprung and deep ribcage. Moved soundly around the ring with ease and grace, a worthy BOB. .2nd 191, Starceylon Re Di Quadri At Ramita, D, Miss Chaytor. A 14-month-old male in good condition. Good depth and spring of rib, taller than 1 but correct. Strong hind quarters and low set hocks. Nice pleasing head with high ears and correct eye. A little lethargic on the move today compared to 1.

AV Imported Breed Register. PG. 2-1. 1st 203, Serenade Des Vallees Longeronnaises Avec Caelestibleu, B, Mr C Middleton. Basset Bleu de Gascogne. Expertly presented in great condition with a typical head and kind expression with great ear carriage and correct eye. Coat in top condition. Deep broad chest going into strong forequarters with wide feet. Level top line with correct length of tail. Kept her profile on the move. O. 1-0. 1st 202, Rasteau De La Foret D’Aurix Avec Caelestibleu, D, Mr C Middleton. Basset Bleu de Gascogne, this 3 1/2-year-old was a pleasure to go over with loads of personality. Houndy head that is well proportioned with correct eye and strong neck and good ear carriage. Beautiful deep chest with strong front legs going into a nice spread of foot. Moved with vigour and kept a good profile on the move. Happy to award Best AV Import Breed Register

AVNSC Hound. PG. 3-1. 1st 206, Blevwil House Of Mirrors Avec Kitesprite, B, Mrs L Ashton. Basset Fauve De Bretagne. A very promising young girl. Head of excellent proportions with good oval eyes and kind expression. Ears correct set level with eyes. Chest wide and deep with a prominent Sternum. Ribs well rounded. Short muscular neck going into slightly sloping shoulders and level top line. BP AVNSC, RBest AVNSC. 2nd 208, Swansford Diadora, B, Mr GP & Mrs DE Lumley. Dachshund Long Haired. Beautiful long conical head with dark almond eyes and with nice broad high placed ears and a complete scissor bite. Upper arms closely tucked in and good 45 degree lay of shoulder. Good length of tail. Coat in great condition Moved straight and true with plenty of drive from the rear. O. 2-0. 1st 207, Dagastren Martha My Dear, B, Mr GP & Mrs DE Lumley. Dachshund Long Haired. A beautiful five-year-old which took my eye on entering the ring. Flowing coat and in great condition. Correct conical head with high set ears and dark oval eyes. Good scissor bite and nice jaw line. Strong ribcage with level top line and long tail. Moved with easy and purpose. Worthy Best AVNSC.

2nd 209 Merlin Do Casal Dos Choupos (imp) ShCEx, D, Ms M Pocklington-Hall. Basset Fauve De Bretagne. Red wheaten male. A well-balanced head with dark eye and correct ear set level with eyes. Good width to chest going into straight legs and good solid feet. Deep well-ribbed back and strength to loin. Good angulation in rear with hocks well let down.

HG1.173 Borzoi, Palmedees Arian Khrysos At Keanver JW, D, Mr K & Mrs A Dover. HG2. 164 Rhodesian Ridgeback, Benicloujam Lola Of Chagall, B, Miss L McIntosh. This girl stood to perfection with a level top line slightly falling away at the croup, with good muscle definition of the first thigh. Correct tail carriage. Deep chest with good lay of shoulder and correct ridge and Crowns. Good bite with tight jaw line. Good depth of muzzle and correct dark eye. Good ear set and feminine expression. Moved at ease and kept outline on the move, ran straight coming and going. HG3. 169 Basenji, The Impossible Girl of Alchez, B, Ms CJ &Mr TF Casentieri. HG4. 207 Dachshund Long-Haired, Dagastren Martha My Dear, B, Mr GP & Mrs DE Lumley. HPG1. 155 Rhodesian Ridgeback, Delianza What’s Your Motive, D, Mrs KL Barker. A very promising young dog. Stood proud and clearly built with purpose, strong and alert. Beautiful head and masculine expression with correct eye and ear carriage, Deep chest with good lay of shoulder and correct ridge and crowns. Good first and second thigh. Moved effortlessly and took my eye from entering the ring. RBPIS.

Elegant masculine male with nice head with correct scissor bite and correctly set ears and nice kind eye. Correct size with a super shape on the stack. Good depth to body and a balanced rear angulation mirrored his front. Looked good in profile which remained on the move. PG. 8-2. 1st 176, Mumysami Beth Level Of Crazy, B, Mrs J & Miss RE Cumberland. Dachshund Mini Smooth Haired. Nicely shaped head with clean mouth and strong jaw and good scissor bite. Ears set high of moderate length. Nice long slightly arched neck going into sloping shoulders with level top line. Prominent breastbone with long deep ribbing. Moved at ease with drive from the rear. 2nd 203, Serenade Des Vallees Longeronnaises Avec Caelestibleu, B, Mr C Middleton. Basset Bleu De Gascogne. O. 6-3. 1st 166, Kinabula’s All about the Base, JW, ShCEx, OSW. B, Miss I Scanlon. Rhodesian Ridgeback. Six-and-a-half-year-old girl. Beautiful feminine head with good ear carriage and nice round eye of correct colour. Strong neck going into good lay of shoulder and nice level top line slightly falling away over the croup. Good length of tail and nicely let down over the hocks. Nice deep chest with good feet. Showed a great profile on the stand and kept it well on the move, reached out with vigour and did her expert handler proud on the day. 2nd 202, Rasteau De La Foret D’Aurix Avec Caelestibleu, D, Mr C Middleton. Basset Bleu De Gascogne. V. 7-2. 1st 168, Lambada Mysterious Talisman (IMP BLR), B, Ms CJ &Mr TF Casentieri. Basenji. Red and white 7-year-old bitch. Alert and ready to go. Well balanced girl that stood out in profile. Nice pleasing head with alert expression and clean appearance. Correct eye and good ear set. Strong neck and good lay of shoulder. Tidy top line and good tail carriage. Tight feet and well-muscled rear angulation. Moved with vigour and purpose. BV. 2nd 201, Mabelle D’An Naoned Avec Caelestibleu, B, Mr C Middleton. Bleu De Gascogne. Pleasing seven-and-a-half-year-old girl. Beautiful head and sad expression with oval dark eye with correct length of ear. Long slightly arched neck with good slope to upper arm. Good rear angulation and well let down over the hocks. Stood with slightly splayed feet. Moved well and straight. RBV.
