Cartmel Agricultural Society 7th August 2024 – Judge Joanne Isherwood Many thanks to the society for their invitation to judge a number of Gundog breeds and the Gundog Group, at their recent open show held in conjunction with Cartmel Agricultural show. A big thank you to my hard-working stewards who did an excellent job in keeping everything running smoothly. Also thank you to the exhibitors for a great entry of quality exhibits and for accepting my decisions in a sporting manner Gundog Group Import Register Junior (1) 1st Draj’s Forrests Impah, Alone but still a worthy winner. Promising Korthals Griffon, 15 month old bitch, of correct proportions, larger head in proportion to her body. Moderately long neck, rectangle body. Level topline which she kept on the move, handler just needs more confidence to complete picture. Best Import. Bracco Italiano Junior No entries. Post Grad (1) 1st Fazenfield & Smith’s Owlspoint Askin For Trouble. Masculine head of good proportions and planes, short strong neck and deep in brisket. Shown in hard condition with good muscle tone, needs to mature and settle on the move to complete the picture. Open (4) 2 abs. 1st Sanderson’s Whitburn U’Can’t Touch This At Walsall JW. Close decision between 1 & 2. Flashy 2-year-old, she is well balanced and unexaggerated. Feminine head of correct proportions, good depth of flew and low set ears. Correct front and rear angulation. Moved with strong ground covering movement. Presented in top condition. Pleased to award her Bob. 2nd Kelsey’s Elfrindew Kinky Boots. 4 year old O/roan. Lovely head planes and soft kind expression. Of good size and balance, eye catching on the move with good footfall fore and aft, sadly her front angulation and feet let her down today. German Shorthaired Pointers Puppy No Entries Junior (3) 1st Sielski’s Orchidstar Silver Lightning. Stunning youngster, very feminine throughout. Good reach of neck, leading into well placed shoulders. Moved well keeping a level topline. 2nd Brown ‘s Montalba Mustrum Ridcully. Different type to winner, pleasing head & eye everything in the right place just needs to mature to complete the picture. 3rd Brown’s Montalba Miss Aching Post Grad (2) 1st Mccafferty’s Thorscrag Hades JW, Smart dog, Masculine head, strong neck into well placed shoulders, good depth, firm topline which he kept on the move. Well muscled hindquarters which he used to advantage on the move. 2nd Brown’s Montalba Mustrum Ridcully. Open (2) 1st Sielski’s Sh Ch Orchidstar Bolts of Speed. Worthy show champion, Masculine headed dog not over done in anyway, clean in outline with good reach of neck. Well muscled, moved soundly with power and drive, pleased to award him Bob. 2nd Brown’s Montalba Mister Teatime. Pointers Puppy (2) 1 abs. 1st Gordon’s Hawkfield Happy Times 11 month old orange and white, Noble head with alert expression. Long muscular neck, well sprung ribs with good depth. Moved better as the day went on. BP. Junior (4) 1st Edmondson & Robertshaw’s Crookrise Sunbeam, stunning youngest, absolutely full of devilment, feminine head with gentle expression, good depth of chest, moved with drive keeping her level topline and using her tail to advantage. 2nd Gordon’s Hawkfield Happy Times 3rd Bush’s Piasharn Breakinh The Law. Post Grad (4) 2 abs. 1st Blackburn-Bennett’s Kanix Smoochie at Stargang, Promising young lady built on elegant lines, dark eye of correct shape, kind expression. Well sprung ribs with plenty of heart room. Good footfall on the move. 2nd Bush’s Piasharn Demelza, Different type to winner, Pleasing head and expression, good body proportions, shown in muscular condition, due to the weather conditions was a little unsettled. Open (4) 1 abs 1st Blackburn-Bennett & Macara’s Kanix Sooty at Stargang. Litter sister to post grad winner. My star of the day, she caught my eye on entering the ring and did not disappoint on further inspection. Feminine head of excellent shape, with appealing expression, well balanced in outline with strong neck, firm topline, deep brisket and well ribbed back. Beautifully presented. Moved with style and drive, to gain Bob and Group 1 in the strong Gundog Group 2nd Edmondson & Robertshaws Dowbiggins Flush at Crookrise, Presents a series of curves, very feminine, good depth of chest. Correct feet well developed second thigh. Used her tail to advantage on the move. 3rd Gordon’s Hawkfield Lemonie Snickett Cocker Spaniel Puppy (3) 1 abs 1st Watson’s Quettadene Stars Aligned Over Bordacity, Promising black youngster, pleased to award him Bp and puppy Group 2, just lost out on Bob due to maturity. Gentle expression, moderate neck, into sloping shoulders, short and compact body. Sound driving movement. Shown in lovely coat. 2nd Smith, Smith & Teasel’s Forever Rizi Bizi Coral (Imp Hun) TAF, Different type to winner, good length of neck set into well laid shoulders. Good bone and body, a little unsettled on the move. Junior (1) Abs Post Graduate (2) 1st Tomlinson Milalder Lady Madonna, Pretty Blue Roan, honest type, square with substance, nothing over done. Quality head, pleasing eye, well paced ears. Silky coat. Lovely merry cocker action on the move which gained her Bob in tough competition. 2nd Alexander & Sugden’s Rockllocers’ Indiana Bones Open (6) 2 Abs 1st Shinkfield & Lester’s Quettadene Queen of Stars JW, Stunning black. Loved her make and shape. Pleasing head with a melting expression, good neck and shoulders, well sprung ribs, correct angulation fore and aft. Moved with driving action to win this class, sadly in bob was unsettled on the move. 2nd Walton’s Annaside Let’s Dance, very close decision between 1 & 2, Smart black dog with lots to like, masculine head with an appealing expression, square muzzle. Sound front and strong loin. Well presented. 3rd Tomlinson’s Milader Jumpin Jack Flash English Springer Spaniel Junior No Entries Post Graduate (2) 1st Joyce’s Peasblossom Aura at Felltops, Liver & white very feminine. Good reach of neck into well paced shoulders. Lovely outline. Well ribbed, moved well. Close decision between 1 & 2. 2nd House’s Gleadsbury Destin Belle. Of good size, correct shaped eye, good spring of rib, moved well using her strong rear to advantage. Open (1) 1st Cunliffe’s IR Sh Ch Calvdale I Say of Fallenleaf CJW18 CENT Winner. 7 year old, in her prime, feminine head and melting expression, well balanced throughout, moved soundly with drive. Shown in first class condition Bob. Welsh Springer Spaniel Junior (2) 1st Graham’s Nyliram Born This Way, 6 month old. Promising youngster, I fell in love with this boy, he is so full of quality, lovely head & mischievous expression, compact & well balanced, well off for bone. Once settled he was a sound happy mover, using his tail to advantage. BP, Puppy Group 1 and thrilled to see him win BPIS. 2nd Graham’s Nyliram Edge of Glory, Litter brother to 1, at the moment not as mature as winner, but still a quality puppy. Post Graduate No Entries Open (1) 1st Graham’s Sh Ch Nyliram The Moth Catcher, Beautiful headed bitch, dark eye, melting expression, good reach of neck into clean shoulders. Well let down hocks and super quarters which she used to advantage on the move. Worthy show champion. Bob & Group 2 AVNSC Puppy (1) 1st Stead’s Ravensett Illusionist, English Setter really enjoying his day out, his tail never stopped wagging. Just 6 month old, very much a baby, but everything is in the right place. Junior (1) Abs Post Graduate (5) 1st Stephenson’s Mariglen Wave Dancer at Bondgate JW, English Setter. Pretty headed blue bitch, with gentle expression, clean in outline, shoulders well set. Level topline, which she kept on the move, using her correctly set tail to advantage. Shown in hard condition. 2nd Malin’s Kenzduo Deeply Dallas, Hungarian Vizlas, Well balanced dog. Pleasing head and expression, gone bone and feet, moved with drive. 3rd Forrest’s Elvistar Private Dancer Open (5) 3 abs 1st Graham’s Sh Ch Eald Dances With Wolves Among Nyliram JW ShCEx OSW, Sussex Spaniel, who was so full of character. Sturdy & well made, full of quality, head of good dimensions, soft expression, well feathered ears. Sound driving movement. Best AVNSC & group 3. 2nd English’s Sonnetend Wake Up and Dream at Wireduck, unlucky to meet the winner on top form. Field Spaniel. Sweetest of heads, with a kind expression, well made throughout. Straight legs and tight feet, clean steady mover. Gundog Group Top quality Group – I was completely spoilt for choice. Group 1 Pointer Group 2 Welsh Springer Group 3 Sussex Spaniel Group 4 Golden Retriever – Magson’s Castlegolden Classy Girl, Lovely youngster, sweet head & dark eyes, presented in tip top condition and coat, covered the ground with ease. Puppy Group Group 1 Welsh Springer Group 2 Cocker Spaniel Group 3 Labrador – Smith’s Flyenpyg Juergen Chopp, Lovely youngster, personality plus, presents a well-balanced picture when stood & does not disappoint on the move, displaying sound powerful movement. Group 4 Golden Retriever – James’ Tsarmont Oh so Starstruck (A1), Beautifully headed youngest, very feminine throughout, correct lay back of shoulders & straight front. Moved well. AV Gundog Puppy (8) 2 abs 1st Gordon’s Hawkfield Happy Times 2nd Lawrence’s Dunnabbey Funny Girl, Labrador 3rd Mullett’s Seatallan Damson, Labrador Veteran (12) 3 Abs 1st Sieski’s Sh Ch Orchidstar Bonds of Speed JW ShCM, Handsome 7 year old not looking his age at all.
