Open Show 1st Sept.2024
Thrilled to be judging at this lovely show, it has always been a special event every year for us southern Hound exhibitors ,the show and the special venue at Hickstead has always been a “must go to.”
Always been run by dedicated Hound people and they always have classes for all the breeds, however small and put on Special Working classes wherever necessary, which I know is appreciated.
Basset Fauve De Bretagne
Graduate Dog or Bitch 1
1st: Godwin`s Mochras Mahlbec, Only just 6 months male who was rather over enthusiastic at his first show and it took a few attempts to get him onto all fours. Masculine and well boned ,slight crook ,moved adequately for his age .Good spring of rib, topline needs to drop, correct tail, set and carriage. In between coat at the moment, unfortunately stood alone in the breed. Just needs practise and perserverance. Best Puppy and Best Of Breed.

1st: Chapman-Reith`s Standard Smooth Dachshunds,
Excellent 20 months litter brother and sister who really are like peas in a pod, Black and tan and identically marked and so similar in style and conformation. Moved at all times as a perfect pair. As soon as they came into the ring I liked them and they did not put a foot wrong.

A.V.Veteran 10+ yrs. 10 [4abs]
1st: Broad`s Ch. Neertanauf Sea Magic JW ShCM ,
Amazing, shaded red, Min L/H Dachs who is still looking fabulous at nearly 15 years old. I am very proud to have been the judge who awarded him his 3rd CC at the ripe old age of 11 and he still looks as fit now as he did then. Lovely head and expression, he has everything to like about him, excellent type and style and still so sound front and rear with correct reach and drive. Lovely dog to go over, well bodied and correct weight. So sad the RKC have disbanded with the scales in the Miniature Dachs but this chap is absolutely correct in weight and every other quarter. Immaculate presentation. A credit to his owner and did not hesitate in awarding him Best Veteran In Show.

Short, compact body with level topline and correct tail and set. Moderate hindquarters with low set hocks. Perfect coat. A lovely hound who really moves soundly and with great style and presence and moved at one with her excellent handler. Pleased to later place her 3rd Best In Show.
3rd: McBain & Steven`s Redcap Bella Sorella JW ShCM VW,
Nearly 12 year old Beagle bitch.
Best In Show Lovely line-up with many nice hounds that were unplaced but not disgraced. The quality of the exhibits was, on the whole, excellent and unfortunately I only had 4 placings to award.
Best In Show was the superb Sloughi male, Woodgate,Boggia & de Souza`s Xandu Khan Schuru-Esch-Scham [Imp]. At 6 years he is in his prime and I have always admired him from a youngster. Having recently awarded him Best AVNSC at Three Counties I was delighted to see him enter the ring today in this excellent BIS competition. He oozes style ,elegance and type and is a credit to his breed, in good hard muscular condition he moves soundly and without any exaggeration. I like everything about him and was pleased he did not put a foot wrong today to win a well deserved and very popular BIS.

Allchorne`s Nelgus Thyme Flies,
Handsome 5 years Basset, red/white male who easily catches your eye when he enters the ring. He is a very stylish, masculine, well balanced hound. I love his head and eye, great substance and overall conformation, he is a sound, easy mover who really looks fit for purpose. Kept his topline at all times even in the very hot conditions today.
Best Puppy In Show
1: Rowe`s Boloria Goodnight Mr.Tom,
10 months Standard W/H Dachs male, one of my favourite breeds and he really is a topper. Loved his head and dark eye, excellent ears and set, grand strong neck into correct shoulders, sound front with good feet, great depth and forechest with correct ribbing and level topline, low set tail with correct carriage. Good length of hindquarters, well muscled throughout. Moved with purpose, excellent side movement.
2: Cahill & Timberlake`s Ardencote Dance A Dream At Chipperlake,
6 months Whippet, gorgeous fawn/white trim bitch who was at first glance my winner but she really was a little immature against the Dachs above. Very special puppy who excels in type and quality. She is so feminine, correct size and substance with good feet. Sound and elegant on the move I will watch her future.
3:Pearmain & Sherwood`s Delanomar Miss Daisy,
Min Smooth Dachs, this b/tan bitch is only 8 months but is very nicely constructed throughout and is lovely to go over, on the table she stands proud with no collapsing hocks or hindquarters, she has excellent front and hind co-ordination, pretty head and dark eye, well bodied with good depth and length, strong, level topline which she kept at all times. Happy, sound mover who has a lot of style and quality.
4: Crockford`s Befrica`s Kimchi At Belfalas [Imp Nor],
Just 6 months ,dark fawn, smooth coated, male, lovely correct head with excellent ears and set. Neck flows into shoulder nicely and is sound front and rear, good feet, correct depth and well ribbed back, nice substance. Lovely tail and carriage. Still a real baby and immature but definitely a future star, sympathetically handled.
