Northern English Springer Spaniel Society

THE NORTHERN ENGLISH SPRINGER SOCIETY OPEN SHOW 21 JUL 24 My thanks to the officers and committee for the invitation to judge today’s show at such a lovely venue, very befitting of a club championship show. I was delighted that I was appointed to judge the open show held in conjunction with the championship show, collaboration and joined up thinking is, in my opinion, the way forward. I was rewarded with a super entry of 40 ESS making over 50 entries. My congratulations to the society on their 50th anniversary celebrations, if the cake was anything to go by, I would suggest it was a very ‘successful’ celebration! VD/B 6(3) 1. Ainsley/Nicklin’s Sh Ch. Daenerys Winds of Winter. Cracking bitch shown in fabulous condition not giving away a lot on age, lovely symmetrical outline, nice size and just the right amount of bone, the stack she was just what I was looking for with that balance of her body being neither too short nor too long preferred her head and top line to that of 2, moved steady and distinctively and with an air of authority BB, BVIS & BIS. 2. Rose’s Westaway Dream Angus of Rosannoch (imp NOR). All male chap who really scores on the move, fabulous feet, second thigh in great order, liked his moderate angles and body, although for me he was carrying too much condition which should on the move. Surprised he doesn’t have his title. 3. Gibson’s Calvdale Rag Nymph. PD 1(0) 1. Williams/Toublic’s Cobhay Dashing Dandelion. Puppy male, strong but not incorrect head will no doubt balance in time, good shape, which for one so young, he held well on the move where he is sound and capable of covering the ground, correct silly coat emerging, showed with considerable gusto giving the timing and length of the day BPD. YD 1(0) 1. Stevenson’s Peasblossom Brogan at Gaolachcara. 19-month-old male up on leg and quite distracted today, shown in immaculate condition beautifully presented, liked his angles and balance to the fore and rear, just the right amount of bone, good neck into sloping shoulders, will watch him with interest, would prefer eye to be a little less round. GD 2(1) 1. Williams/Toublic’s Cobhay Dashing Dandelion. Repeat. LD 4(1) A difficult choice here. 1. Jenkinson’s Eastriding Royal Black. B/w male, super bone and body not immediately obvious until you handle him, oozes symmetrically would prefer a touch more neck to complete the raciness in build, top-line solid and correct but better when he relaxes, on the move he tended to roach a little. Best B&W. 2. Wilson/Connor’s Pinereoch No Stunts Larrie. My winner at the outset, liked his short hocks, symmetry and outline, on the move he was distracted, and this cost his outline, super condition and lovely head, well presented and sympathetically handled, another day they would swop places I am sure. 3. Richardson/Terry-Richardson’s Cherishym Draconis. OD 4(0) 1. Topliss’ Sh Ch. Sandylands Stand N’Deliver. Flashy eye-catching male immaculately presented and handled, more determined and keener than 2, on the move he covered the ground and was so sound, has the low hocks that help with that typical movement, he is masculine but not overdone, high on leg and despite the length of day his merry unwavering attitude could not be denied BD, BOS & RBIS. 2. Ainsley/Nicklin’s Sh Ch. Daenerys Blood of The Dragon ShCEx. A lovely quality male who I liked for type, just felt was a little tired but so symmetrical and a nice size, hocks well let down, appealing head, strong dentition, good feet, a pleasure to assess and unlucky to meet in such good form, an honest dog with nothing to hide RBD. 3. Topliss’ Sh Ch. Beresford Lockdown. MPB 1(0) 1. Corbett’s Sieger’s See Eye to Eye with Trimere (imp DK) NAF. What a prospect with such rib and body, lovely long shoulders, so strong in top-line, has the most appealing head and expression just the right amount of width skull, lovely size and almond shape eye, an undeniable merry energy, moves with such coordination for one so young, feminine and typey and I adored her, oh so pretty, will watch her with interest, considered her for higher honors BPB & BPIS. PB 2(0) 1. Cokell/Nicklin/Ainsley’s Carlyquinn Winter Storm JW. Moderate bitch in good coat and excellent condition, very feminine and symmetrical, excellent on the stack but not the boldest on the move but the day was getting on, lovely correct coat and well presented. 2. Williams/Toublic’s Cobhay Heavenly Hydrangea. A pretty bitch not in the best of coats today but I liked her super forearm and feet, lovely bite and strong top-line, on the move she was sound but could be more animated. JB 3(1) 1. Chandler’s Elazlan Coronation Day JW. Beautiful bitch who scores in outline, movement correct and typical enhanced by the rapport with her hander, silky coat superbly presented, loved her reach with long shoulder and upper arm, a real show prospect and one that will challenge the best in years to come, I am sure. 2. Whitley’s Peasblossom Celeste. A typey bitch, not showing to best advantage today but liked her top-line, size and substance without being overdone. She had feminity and appeal but gave me the assurance that had the staminia required in this breed. YB 2(1) 1. Topliss’ Shersona I Believe In Angels at Beresford. Typey sound bitch with much to praise, holds herself well on the move, lovely long neck, hocks well let down, top line can be a little sloped but she soon corrected herself, which indicated to me that she has the natural balance required. Well presented, unlucky to stand alone but a worthy class winner all the same. GB 5(3) 1. Tolladay’s Calvdale Half A Story at Bethersden. Solid bitch, a little tired today, she has body which is a shame, excellent forechest and depth of chest and is a nice size, balanced to the fore and rear and well-presented would prefer more weight to complete an otherwise promising picture. 2. Williams/Toublic’s Cobhay Heavenly Hydrangea. Repeat. PGB 2(0) 1. Savell’s Petranella Tipping The Wink JW. Super sound bitch of lovely size and substance whilst retaining raciness, good tight feet, lovely neck, her silhouette is typical, coat not in the best of sorts today. 2. Richardson/Terry-Richardson’s Daenerys Moondancer to Cherishym. A smaller exhibit than some, liked her shape, just not giving her all on the move today, a little throaty for my preference, but otherwise much to praise, excelled on the move and coped well with the large ring. LB 3(0) A challenging class. 1. Jenkinson’s Barecho Fame Queen of Eastriding (imp SWE). Not my immediate winner, a touch long perhaps and it shows in her top-line but otherwise she is typical and of nice size and substance, sound but could be more enthusiastic, pretty and appealing in head and eye. 2. Rose’s Pinereoch Amethyst of Rosannoch. My class winner but on balance there was a little more of her than I would prefer but she is typey and pleasing to go over, sound and in super condition, and oh so balanced. I really enjoyed judging her and am certain that on other days, they would change places. 3. Topliss’ Beresford It’s A Sin. OB 6(2) 1. Corbett’s Sh Ch. Trimere Time Flys. Superbly presented bitch, raciness as required but with substance looks like she could happily go all day, oozes symmetry, lovely flat silky coat, long sloping shoulder, good upper arm and hocks well let down, a real class act absolutely in her prime, RBB. 2. Chandler’s Sh Ch. Elazlan Right of Reply. B/W bitch, racy and symmetrical, not quite the air of arrogance 1 had but she is sound and appealing, loved her hard top-line, super round feet, beautiful handled and presented although coat not as straiht as 1. 3. Wilson/Connor’s Potrail Turns The Swag On for Pinereoch. JENNIFER MILLARD
