PORTSMOUTH AND SOUTHSEA KENNEL ASSOCIATION OPEN SHOW 13 OCTOBER 2024

I thoroughly enjoyed my judging at this open show. Many thanks to my stewards Neil, Anne and Daniel.  

I was delighted to hear that my Utility Group winner achieved BIS and my Utility Puppy Group winner was awarded RBPIS.

DALMATIAN JUNIOR – 3 – 1 Ab

1. D’ALLEN – KINGSHAKA BROWN SUGAR – proportioned head with a broad flat skull. Bite was good, appearance was balanced, nice bone and feet. Muscled hindquarters, moved well.

2. CLAESEN – DALSTORM JUST JIVING – masculine head with dark eyes and correct bite and moderate sized ears. Nice length of neck, strong loin and second thigh evident. Not as positive in movement as winner.,

DALMATIAN POST GRADUATE – 2 

1. PATTINGTON & BLOMFIELD – HAFWENNA HONEY PIE – pleasing feminine head, nice ear placement, correct bite. Balanced in appearance with strong loin, good bone and feet. Good neck and shoulders, muscled hindquarters. Moved well both ways. RBOB

2. Dalstorm Just Jiving

 DALMATIAN OPEN – 4 – 1 AB

1. FINCH & BONNER – SOPHTSPOT KALAMITY JANE WITH DALTICINO – Balanced appearance with good bone, strong pasterns and compact feet. She has a broad, flat skull with little stop. Muzzle was strong and bite was good. Her neck was slightly arched, with well laid shoulders. Chest was a good depth, hindquarters were well muscled with second thigh evident, correct tail length. Movement was sound. BOB

2. BLISSETT – KYSTUNO WARNERS KING – nice proportioned head, good bite, straight front with compact feet. He has well sprung ribs with a strong loin. Toned hindquarters and nice glossy coat. Preferred the front movement of winner. Showed well

3. ENGLAND – DALENS QUEEN OF THE SEAS AT SILVERSPOT ShCEx

TIBETAN SPANIEL – JUNIOR – 1

1. OSBORN – QUAILMOOR GOLD DUST – feminine head with nicely domed shape. Eyes were dark, ears of moderate size and adequately feathered. Balanced in appearance with moderate bone and hare feet. Coat was a good texture. Showed well. RBOB

TIBETAN SPANIEL – POST GRADUATE – 0

TIBETAN SPANIEL – OPEN – 2

1. HALL – BALGAY SHAB TRA – proportioned appearance, pleasing shaped head, medium length of muzzle with cushioning. Pleasing ears, neck was strong and well set on. Correct length of body with a good spring of ribs. Hindquarters were toned, he was presented in good coat, moved well both ways. BOB

2. OSBORN – QUAILMOOR THE WIZARD’S SPELL – nice size and appearance. He has good bone and hare feet. His neck was moderately short, loin was strong, muscled hindquarters with good hocks. Showed well.

LHASA APSO – JUNIOR -1 

1. ADAM-SLOMKOWSKI – FRANK DREAMED A DREAM AT SKYLAX JW (IMP POL) - presented in excellent coat and condition. He has a balanced appearance, a moderately narrow skull with a medium stop. Eyes were dark and a medium size. He has a nice topline with a strong loin and a nicely carried tail. Good rear movement. BOB

LHASA APSO – POST GRADUATE – 2 – 1 AB

1. PARVATANENI – DOMENSA PERFECT DREAM – nice bone, level topline and strong loin. Pleasing head, dark eyes and ample head furnishings. She has muscled hindquarters and a high set tail carriage. RBOB

BULLDOG – JUNIOR – 3 – 1 AB

1. TAYLOR – PARKROSE GAME OVER – proportioned head with well rounded cheeks, short muzzle and strong jaw. Her neck was strong and muscular, front was straight with good bone and feet. She has a wide chest and good ribs. Hindquarters were strong and well toned. Moved well. BOB. BP, UPG3

2. FRIDLINGTON – ARNIESPRIDE MR LOVERMANN AT ALBERTWOOD – masculine, proportioned head. Forehead was flat with fine wrinkles and well placed ears. He has good bone, neck was nicely arched, his body was firm and muscular. Preferred the movement of winner. RBOB

BULLDOG – POST GRADUATE – 1 – 1AB

AVNSC UTILITY – PUPPY – 6 – 1 AB

1. FISHER – PRINCE OF BOURBON DE ALTA SIGNA TAF – STANDARD POODLE – an impressive looking dog. He has a lovely chiselled head with a strong foreface and moderate stop. Eyes were dark and his bite was correct. He has a well proportioned neck of good length. Front was straight and his feet were tight and proportioned. He has well sprung ribs, broad loin and muscled hindquarters and good hocks. He was nicely presented and moved well both ways. BAVNSCUP, UPG1, RBPIS.

2. WOODWARD – KAMARRI LOOKIN SMART AT NOVATELL – STANDARD POODLE – feminine, chiselled head, good bite, dark eyes and well placed ears. She has good bone and feet, a deep chest and a strong back. She was nicely presented and moved ok.

3. MONKS – XQUISITE WINNIE A LITTLE GREY CLOUD AT ROZIBON (IMP BEL) – GERMAN SPITZ (MITTEL)

AVNSC UTILITY – JUNIOR – 4 – 2WD

1. Xquisite Winnie a Little Grey Cloud at Rozibon (Imp Bel) – third in previous class. She is compact in appearance and presented in a profuse coat. Head was a wedge shaped with a moderate stop. Her eyes were dark and ears were a correct size and carried erect. She has good bone and a straight front. Her tail was carried correctly. Showed well.

2. FISHER – TOWNEDALE ASH – STANDARD POODLE – a tad unsettled due to a previous experience with a floor mat at another show. He was nicely presented, pleasing chiselled head with dark eyes and correct ears. He has good bone and feet, moderately angulated hindquarters and level topline. Moved ok when settled.

AVNSC UTILITY – POST GRADUATE – 7 – 5AB

2. PARKER – WILLOWOOD HAPPY EVER AFTER – STANDARD POODLE – proportioned, feminine head, dark eyes and a good bite. She has good bone, strong pasterns and neat feet. She was nicely presented and showed welL.

1. CANN- SUNMARCA SECRET AGENT – MINIATURE POODLE - well presented and balanced in appearance. Pleasing head with a strong foreface. He has a well muscled, straight front, good ribs and strong hindquarters. Showed well. BAVNSC UTILITY 

2. BELL – AEDEN TALK OF MAKING MUSIC – TOY POODLE – compact in appearance and elegant looking. She has well angulated, toned hindquarters. Ribs were nicely rounded and her loin was strong. Her coat was a good texture. Showed well.

AV UTILITY PUPPY – 9 – 5 AB

1. SILSBURY – J’ADOREMY THUNDERING HEART – SHIH TZU – he was presented in good coat and condition. Nice for size, pleasing expression with dark eyes. Head was broad with a short strong muzzle. Proportioned neck and level back. Hindquarters were nicely muscled. Moved well.

2. DKACEY – KENLEAP TOURNALINE – STANDARD POODLE. - placed 4th in a previous class. He has good bone, straight front and strong hindquarters. He showed well and moved sound.

3. HISCOCK SHIDIZZLE MURRAY’S MINT – SHIH TZU

AV UTILITY GRADUATE – 5 – 1 AB

1. SILSBURY – J’ADOREMY MR RED’N STARE – SHIH TZU – another well coated and nicely presented dog from this kennel. I liked his head shape, short muzzle and dark eyes and large ears. His neck was a good length, he has muscular, short legs and good bone. His back was strong and sturdy. Moved well.

2. ADAM-SLOMKOWSKI – SKYLAX DARE TO BELIEVE JW – LHASA APSO – coat and presentation on this dog was immaculate. He was balanced in appearance with a strong level back, nice tail carriage and good rear angulation. Pleasing in head shape with dark eyes, nice length of neck. Showed well.

3. Willowood Happy Ever After

AV UTILITY OPEN – 3 – 1 AB

1. SILSBURY – JUHUAS EXPECTO PATRONUM FOR J’ADOREMY – nice size. Sturdy built and in good coat. Head shape was good, eyes were dark. Muzzle was square and short. He has a good neck and ribs. Moved sound.

2. Kingshaka Brown Sugar

AV UTILITY – VETERAN – 6 – 2 AB

1. ENGLAND – DALENS BETHANY CHAR AT SILVERSPOT VW – DALMATIAN – 8 years old and in fit condition. Nice bone and feet, well laid shoulders and a straight front. She has strong pasterns and is balanced in appearance. Hindquarters were nicely toned. Moved well. BAVUV

2. HALL – BALGAY KITANG PO – TIBETAN SPANIEL – 7 years old, pleasing in head shape and good ear carriage. He has good bone and feet, his coat was of nice texture. He is balanced and has a nice tail carriage. Movement was good and he showed well.

3. Aedan Talk of Making Music – Toy Poodle

UTILITY GROUP

1. PALMER – GEMARAS ROCKET MAN – TIBETAN TERRIER – He is sturdy, balanced with a square outline. His skull was medium length with a definite stop. Muzzle was strong with a well developed lower jaw. Mouth was good and ears were v shaped. Pleasing in neck and shoulders. His front was straight and parallel, body compact and muscular and presented in a good double coat. Movement was sound both ways. Pleased to learn he later went on to win BIS.

2. LAMBERT – FORTUNE SMILES UPON SHAMISHA – TIBETAN TERRIER – nice size and shape, good straight front and lay of shoulders. Pleasing in head, dark eyes and a good bite. Her back was straight and sturdy. Hindquarters were well angulated. Movement was sound.

AVNSC TERRIER –PUPPY – 4 – 2 AB

1. EDINGTON – HALL & BALLINGER – EST ETIAM NOVUS ANGELUS MIT WENDAIRE (IMP UKR) – AIREDALE = balanced in appearance, pleasing head with nicely placed ears, good bite. He has good bone and neat feet, strong neck and good ribs. Moved well both ways. BAVNSCT PUPPY - TPG1

2. WEBB & ROWE – KENLEAP HOLLY BROOK – JRT – very unsettled on the table. She was spannable and in good coat. She has a pleasing expression and dark eyes. Bone was adequate. Moved ok when settled.

AVNSC TERRIER – GRADUATE – 4 – 1 AB

1 NEWHAM – GRAPEVINE AT PENHILDIRIS – MBT - nice shaped head, correct bite and erect ears. Pleasing neck and shoulders and body shape. She has good bone and neat feet. Size was good, hindquarters were toned and muscled. She moved well both ways. BAVTNSC – TG2

2. EARLE – RATTUSTRAP BEER HUMBUG – MANCHESTER – head was wedge shape in appearance, ears were carried correctly. Eyes were dark and bite was good. He is a nice size with clear markings. His coat was short and glossy, moved well.

My third place winner would have won this class however after several chances she persisted in staying in the pacing mode.

2. KENYON – CEILMEAR CLOSE ENCOUNTER – DDT – nice, proportioned head with large, dark eyes. Neck was muscular and strong, front was muscular and strong. Loin was strong and hindquarters were muscular. He was between coats. Moved well both ways.

3 BUCKLEY – CH. GONETOGROUND HIGH’N MIGHTY – PRT 

TERRIER GROUP

1. SAMSON – TALYOT MAGNUS TO SILAK – CESKY- proportioned in appearance, masculine well balanced head with slightly arched skull, good ear placement, correct bite and dark eyes. His neck was a nice length with well laid shoulders. His body was a medium length with a strong, well arched loin. Hindquarters were muscular with strong hocks. He was presented in excellent condition. Movement was good both ways.

2. BARRETT – SIKAISTAFF MISS DYNAMITE – SBT – nice size, pleasing feminine head,, dark eyes. Ears nicely carried, good bone and feet. She was toned and well muscled. Movement a tad erratic but ok when settled.

AV TERRIER PUPPY – 6 – 3 AB

1. WILKS – ARUNMERE ONE IN A MILLION – BORDER TERRIER – strong masculine head, dark eyes and keen expression. Presented in good coat, has a thick pelt. Moved ok, must not grow on and was just spannable.

2. MARKALL – ONTHILL ISLAND ROVER – BORDER TERRIER – similar lines to the winner. Another one who must not grow on and also just spannable. Harsh coat with pliable pelt. Masculine head with a strong muzzle. Ears need to settle.

1. SAMSON CH. SILAK SHASGAV SOUND OF S ILENCE ShCM ShCEx – CESKY TERRIER – nice rectangular outline, proportioned head, good bite, pleasing expression and ears. Her shoulders were muscular and well laid. Ribs were a good shape, hindquarters were strong and well muscled. She was presented in good condition. Moved well BV
