Cirneco Dell'Etna Club

Cirneco Dell ‘Etna Club Open Show held in conjunction with the Hound Show on Saturday 20th July 2024 at Staffordshire County Show Ground, Stafford.

I was delighted to receive this invitation having been interested in the breed for some years. The welcome I received at the ring was warm and very friendly. With such a small committee it was good to see exhibitors pulling together to put on such a great show. The array of trophies, ribbons, and prizes was phenomenal it felt like everyone had something to take home.

JrD. 1. Leiper – Jaco Della Baia Delle Sirene – This young boy was a good size and a pleasing shape. His head and expression were masculine and intelligent. Slight stop and muzzle matching the length of skull. Ample length of muscular neck into strong shoulders. Enough spring to rib at this stage and reaching back to muscular loin. He had decent hind angulation although on the move he tended to be high-stepping.

PGD. 1. Austin – Kinabula’s Ekanite – A good-sized male with nicely set ears, oval-shaped eyes making an appealing masculine head and muscular neck into decent shoulders. Chest could be a little deeper clean underline and moderate angulation. He moved the better of the exhibits today. 2. Hillyer & McDonnell – Kinabula Solitaire – Litter brother. A lot of the same comments. Good pigmentation and possibly better ears, again I would like more depth to his chest although his ribs reached far enough back. On the move, he needs to settle.

LD. 1. MsDonnell – Kinabule’s Blue Topaz – another litter brother – Handsome boy and well balanced throughout. Masculine head with amber eyes that were oval in shape completed with contrasting pigmentation. Ample bone to well-knuckled feet that were well padded. Chest nicely filled and good depth and spring to ribs. Muscular loin and moderate hind angulation. He moved well straight and true both fore and aft. BoB BD 2. Wolstenholme & Moughton & Farleigh – Kindabula Rouge Diamond at Dekris - from the same litter shown to best advantage. Good proportion and overall balance, masculine head, high set ears erect and triangular. Strong clean neck into shoulders with moderate lay back. Strong pasterns. Ample depth of chest and good clean underline. On the move, he had a straight topline sloping from withers to coup. RBD. 3. Warren – Silvento Orpheus for Shantih

OD. 1. McDonnell & Farleigh – Kinabula Mailano with Triquetra – this boy was father to the litter and you could see his stamp all over them. Full of masculinity and maturity. Typical head well chiseled with slight stop Small oval eyes enough bone to oval feet. His muscular neck was nicely arched into a firm topline and his muscular loin. He was not as clean on the move. 2. WARREN –Kinabula Marocchino at Shantih– A substantial boy pleasing well chiselled head with a flat skull, and erect ears set high. Nicely arched neck and strong topline. Chest more than adequately filled with good depth and spring of ribs. Moved a little too fast.

VD. 1. Wolstenholme & Moughton & Connatty – Kinabula Troika at Dekris – This boy had a lovely square shape and presence in the ring today. Typical head with clean oval-shaped eyes and strong jaws. His chest was full and deep with nicely sprung ribs reaching well back. He had enough length of loin although on the stack his topline was not as firm. BV 2. Dido – Kinabula Forlani Of Kushka – At almost 11yrs he gave a decent account of himself. Pleasing in head set on good length neck. Lean but firm enough in body and fine. A credit to his owner. His age showed in his movement.

GC. 1. Dido – Kinabula Forlani Of Kushka (as above)

PB. 1. Bailey – Quintina Del Gelso Bianco – What an exciting youngster, she needs a little time to gather her confidence and fill out, but I see a very bright future for this young lady. In profile, she was square and balanced with a good topline. Her head was so pretty and feminine her small oval eyes needed to darken, which they will do given time lovely pigmentation to her eyes nose, and tight lips. Her muscular neck has a clean arch into her shoulders ample bone at this point in her growth good feet are nicely knuckled and slightly oval. Her underline was clean and gently rose to her loin. She had moderate hind angulation and moved at a steady pace around the ring. I was delighted to award her BP.

JrB. 1. Farleigh – Kinabula Assisi – Another enjoyable youngster I liked her size and proportion. She was very aware of her surroundings using her erect ears all the time. She had a nicely filled chest and depth of ribbing. Ample bone although she was a little upright in pastern. Firm topline, strength in loin, and low set tail. She moved well RBB.

PGB 1. McDonnell – Kinabula Tonal Topaz – Lovely sized girl square in silhouette. Attractive head with high set ears, flat skull, slight stop, and clean cheeks finished with a large nose. Well-filled chest, with sufficient spring to ribs.

LB. 1. Lieper – Emy of Jonecca (Imp Ita) – This young lady was feminine in head with alert expression and mobile ears. She was muscular throughout with a pleasing height to length and strong loin. From time to time her front movement let her down a little. BB 2. Farleigh – Kinabula Lou Lou Lemon – I found this girl to be a little wide in chest. She made up for this with the darkest of hazel eyes clean nicely chiselled foreface. Pleasant length of neck cleanly arched into topline that was firm and muscular. Her tail was a little high.

OB. 1. Farleigh – Kinabula Tute Sweet Mocha – A Mature lady of attractive shape. Typical skull flat and clean slightly longer than muzzle, well-coloured oval eyes, and good pigmentation. Nicely arched neck into shoulders sufficient chest and enough spring to ribs. She moved at a decent pace. A contender for high honours 2. McDonnell & Farleigh – Kinabula Amoretta at Triquetra – Litter sister to 2nd in open dog and very similar. Pleasing head who gave a devoted feminine expression. Well, set high ears that were erect and parallel. Nicely arched neck into shoulders ample bone throughout. Enough spring to ribs firm topline with muscular loin. She moved swiftly. Judge Janet Kay
