Colne Nelson & District Canine Society
Colne, Nelson & DCS Canine Society 2 day show - 30 November 2024 held at The Lightening Club, Warton, Nr Preston
Thank you to the committee and all exhibitors for a lovely day. I had never been to the venue before and understand why it was necessary to have the show over 2 days. Space for trollies and cages was at a premium, but most people coped well. I‘m sorry I was not able to return for the second day to cheer on my group winners but was delighted to hear they did so well. Congratulations to all.
Whippet: P. 1. Crosscop Bit on the Side – Owen – at 7months she has alot to look forward to. Good shape to hound head which was long and lean. Strong jaw with scissor bite. Ample bladed bone to tight, oval and nicely knuckled feet. Well filled chest and deep brisket. Her back was muscular and firm with graceful arch over loin, clean tuck up. She had strong broad thighs and well bent stifles. On the move she was delightful to watch at a steady pace she had strong propelling power. BP Puppy Group 3 – 2. Crosscop Happy Valley of Hareghyll – Blenkarn – This young boy was well up for size pleasing masculine head with flat skull and oval bright eyes. Good length of neck, muscular with slight arch. Not the chest of 1. He had a decent spring of ribs that reached well back to muscular loin. Plenty of bone and finished with oval shaped feet. Jr. 1. Jothryn Lady Penelope – Fry – Feminine throughout with enough chest infront and depth to brisket. Nicely laid shoulders with ample flat muscle, firm loin. Well-made hindquarters with good but not overdone angles. Finished with a close-fitting coat. 2. Ballauren’s Last Dance – Cooper – This puppy was a good size and well filled out for his age. He had plenty of bone and muscle. Not the flowing curves as others. PG. 1. Crosscop Im Always Yours at Ballauren JW – Cooper – this young girl was a good example of a whippet for me. She was feminine and elegant with power. Feminine head with even gentle expression. Nothing over done well laid shoulders, well knuckled feet, shapely underline, good strong hindquarters, moved steadily with matching reach & drive. BOB she had some strong competition in the group. Her time will come. 2. Jothryn Lady Penelope – Fry (1st in Jr) O. 1. Afterglow Whirlwind – Nixon - Feminine head, and general outline. She had a strong muscular topline, with slight arch over loin, shapely hindquarters, but could have a shade more reach in front. 2. Jothryn Rebelled in Joy – Fry - Feminine and a pleasing size. Nicely filled chest and depth of brisket and adequately sprung ribs. Clean underline and well tucked up ample bend of stifles and well let down hocks. On the move not quite the extension infront. Beagle: O. 1. Borerst The One and Only – Roberts – This veteran girl stood alone. Compact lemon girl of a pleasing size. Strong neck leading to firm shoulders, sufficient bone to neat feet, firm topline, well angulated rear. BOB. Basenji: litter sisters in this class splitting hairs between them. Jr. 1. Sarawana Dragons Conquest – Knowles - red and white bitch who was balanced and graceful in outline. Fine wrinkle to her feminine forehead head, with dark almond eyes and correct scissor bite. She has a good front assembly with just the right amount of infill and a short, level back. She had fine bone, although I would prefer a little tighter foot. I felt this girl had the better tail set and curl. Her movement around the ring was light with a free-flowing action. 2. Sarawana Dragonfire Rising – Knowles – She had the appearance of aristocratic independence. With a light build of elegance. As I said splitting hairs with these 2 girls. I felt this girl had a strong neck into well laid shoulders and clean tucked up. On the move she had a long tireless swinging stride. PG. 1. Sarawana Dragonfire Rising – Knowles. As previous class. O. Litter brothers 1. Ch Bushwacker American Hustle at Embeau – Grayson & Cullen – 3yr ticked all the boxes for me as the breed standard. He was fine and lightly build high on leg and fully alert. He had a masculine head and expression from his flat skull and medium width and muzzle that tapered to his nose. Dark almond shaped eyes that gave that inscrutable expression. He had strength in neck with well laid shoulders and clean straight legs to the excellent feet which were small narrow and compact. His topline was firm and level with well sprung ribs. He had a well-defined waist and high set tail well defined shelf. His hind legs were muscular with moderate bend of stifle and well letdown hocks. When in action he had a free-flowing swinging gait. He had great ring presence BOB Group 1 2. Ch Bushwacker Dragon Tattoo at Sarawana JW – Knowles – this was always going to be a strong class. She was super feminine with great elegance. She had a lovely head and kind alert expression, with correctly set ears that were slightly hooded and fine to the touch. Ample fine bone to legs and clean compact feet, although her pasterns didn’t seem to have the same strength as her brother. She moved well around the ring without effort. Deerhound: PG & O. 1. Zeldini Saria – Currie – Our ring was not suited to larger dogs which made it very difficult to asses any movement. It felt like dog and handler were learning together. This girl had a gentle outlook and did what was asked of her. She had a pleasing hound head and clean dark eyes giving that friendly expression. Strong neck of good length into shoulders. Ample bone to tight well knuckles feet with strong nails. Well filled chest and good dept of ribs, nice arch to loin and finished with a drooping tail. She had a shaggy coat of good texture. BoB. AVNSC Hound Jr. 1. Norwegian Elkhound – Kamgaard Kloudberry Jam for Conrick - McHugh – This young male was very excitable today, giving his handler a run for her money. Once settled he got on with the job. His head still needs time to break but all very promising. Slightly oval shaped eyes dark brown with a friendly frank expression, high set ears small and firm and very mobile, enough length of neck and plenty of ruff. Ample bone with straight legs, spring at pasterns finishing with oval tight feet. His topline was firm and level with strength over short loin. His tail set was strong at root and curled tightly over his back. On the move he was agile but the ring was too small to show off his true gait. BAVNSC hound. O. 1. Laakso Dina of Conrick – McHugh – a mature girl, compact and square in outline, full of thick dense coat. Appealing feminine head and expression retaining that frank look, well filled chest with ample curve to ribs muscular short loin and slight tuck up. She moved well in the space available, I preferred the youthful excitement of the Jr.
Hound group Basenji 1. Ch Bushwacker American Hustle at Embeau – Grayson & Cullen - I found him an excellent example of the breed from his aristocratic head carriage and look to his showman ship, no one else was there but him. Rhodesian Ridgeback 2. Ungowa on the Road Again with Vapfumi – Johnson – He was all male, of breed size strong muscular throughout with a dignified aloof expression. He used the ring to its best advantage. Dachshund Smooth 3. Cwmdarhian The Mistress – Patterson – This black and tan girl is mature with good forechest and spring of ribs clean underline and firm topline. Irish Wolf Hound 4. Rysherron’s American Hope for Clanliy – Stirling - A young bitch who is developing well. She had the size and symmetry giving that commanding appearance. Hound Puppy Group. Reserve Best Puppy in Show Basset Hound 1. Reveros Power of Love – Sutton – What an exciting youngster, he had the bone and substance together with workman like attitude. His ground clearance was enough to allow him to work all day. He moved with a powerful and effortless stride. I was delighted to hear he returned for the second day. Ibizan Hound 2. Ahram’s Hold My Hand With Hollybrook (imp USA) – Hall – In-between judging my breeds I did see this youngster under another judge where she was giving her handler a hard time. This breed is very sensitive and reserved. By the time she came in the group she was more settled. She had a fine long head of typical hound shape. With large ears which were erect and mobile. On the move she was clean and reaching. Whippet 3. Crosscop Bit on the Side – Owen – she was a very young girl and taking everything in her stride. With time she will mature and fill out. I look forward to seeing her in the future. Dachshund Wire – 4. Brumberhill Biscuit to Ambiesque – Being handled by someone else today and it showed. Her form and shape could not go unnoticed, she had a good coat that needed a little work, I’m sure she will have a best coat on next time. Hound Veteran Group. Basset Griffon Vendeen Congratulations on Best Veteran in Show. 1. Eryan Loki Maitre Du Mal VW – Bartley – A strong well build compact male of almost 9years and still showing off like a youngster. 2. Whippet. Citycroft Starfall JW – Wilkinson – This young lady had a hard act to follow. She was in suitable muscle condition but lacked the zest for life unlike the Petit. Judge Janet Kay
