Whitstable & District Canine Society Open Show – 16th June 2024

Beagles

Judge: Jane Whitton

I would like to thank the committee for inviting me to judge Beagles at the show in what was in fact my first official judging appointment. Thank you also to all those who entered under me as it was a real honour to be allowed to go over your lovely Hounds and I think we all agree that it was lucky we managed to change rings and come inside just as the heavens opened!

JUNIOR (2,0)

1st - Wigstead’s Lilleagle Jeremy Fisher with Bellenza

11 mth old broken tricolour dog who catches the eye immediately. Strong, masculine head with good firm topline. Plenty of bone with straight correct limbs and tight feet. Well-muscled and developed body overall for age. Powerful movement in profile, moving with very good reach and drive. RBOB, BP and I saw he went on to take HPG3.

2nd – Giles-Wyatt’s Clarismore Crown Prince

7.5 mth old blanket tri dog of a smaller mould than 1 who just needs a bit more time to settle and develop. Lovely head and expression with correct bite which flows well into well laid shoulders and level topline with a correct amount of bone and tight feet. Hindquarters correctly muscled for age with good stifle and hock angles. Front legs slightly base wide at present which is just causing his front movement to be a bit wide at present however movement very good in profile.

POST GRADUATE (1,2)

1st – Simkin’s Simeldaka Marfa Ridge

Feminine and elegant 2¾ yr old tan and white female with a beautiful head and correct pleasing expression. Lovely neck into a good shoulder and front with good, very neat feet. Nice clean bone and carries her stern correctly. Movement in front and in profile is lovely but would just like to see more drive coming from behind. Pushed hard for RBOB.

OPEN (2,1)

1st – Hills Donay Fraser JW

9yr old, faded tricolour male who whilst he may be older now, still lets his quality shine through. Masculine head without being coarse and kind expression which goes into a good length neck. All flows into a pleasing level topline with good depth of chest and well ribbed. Excellent bone and feet and very well-muscled. He moved out happily with straight ground covering strides, displaying plenty of drive from behind and looking like he would happily keep the pace up all day. BOB

2nd – Simkin’s Simeldaka Senglea Squire

4 yr old tricolour male of a very different type to the first dog. Maternal sibling to winner of last class and you can see it as both have the same lovely head and expression. Lovely neck into correctly balanced well ribbed body though tail set is slightly lower than ideal. Nice, neat feet and moderately angled rear. Nice clean movement but just preferred the movement of 1 on the day.
