Open Show

5th October 2024

Judge – Mrs Jane Eyeington (Meadowdale)

I would like to thank the officers and committee for their kind invitation to judge the club Open Show, held in conjunction with Birmingham Gundog & Terrier Open Show. Delighted with the small but lovely quality entry, super dogs and lovely exhibitors. It was an honour to judge. The floor in the sports hall was not ideal for movement, and this had an effect on the some of the placements.

Puppy Dog (1,0)

1. Mrs Kirkwood - Cazcade Cant Catch Me

Lovely start to the day, delightful 10 month old dog, who present such a pleasing outline when stood. He has the desired substance and bone but is not overdone or exaggerated. Pleasing head, with good width to the backskull, showing the correct proportions, lovely dark round eye with a slight hint of mischief. Strong neck of good length, super depth and fill in of forechest, correct length to the body with a slight rise to the loin. Moving out cleanly in all directions, whilst holding his outline. Coat presented with a harsh texture – BPD & BPIS

1. Ms Bailey - Zippor Brendan

Liked the overall shape and size of this 4 year old wheaten dog. Lovely happy and outgoing nature. A strong and sturdy dog with good overall balance and proportions. Masculine head, with neat well placed ears, a dark round eye and good strength to the foreface. Strong moderate neck, good depth to the brisket, and holding a firm topline both stood and on the move with a slight rise to the loin. Moderate but well muscled hindquarters. Showed himself off well on the move.

1. Mrs Rogers - Ch Jeonty Dameron Anakin

Lovely quality wheaten dog coming up 5 years of age and looked a picture when stood, showing a typical Glen outline. He has strength and substance, and displays the correct body proportions. Liked his head, masculine, with a good width to the backskull, strength to the muzzle, lovely dark eyes, and small neat rose ears, he has an alert kind expression. Good length of neck, flowing seamlessly into a well held topline with a slight rise. Lovely depth and spring to the ribcage. He stands on well boned limbs and neat feet. Strong and muscular hindquarters which he put to good use to drive around the ring. Well presented in a harsh jacket. Delighted to award him BD & BIS

Veteran Dog (1,0)

1. Miss Hannington - Ch/Int/Bel/Nl/Esp Ch Boudivella Osca VW

Super wheaten dog with so much to admire, hard to believe he is nearly 10 years old, looking in fine fettle and showing himself off with style. He is all male, with lovely substance and strength throughout. Handsome head, nicely balanced, with a dark eye, and neat mobile ears. Strong muscular neck, lovely depth and development of forechest. Correct front and standing on well boned limbs. Strong through the body, with a good spring to the ribcage, slight rise to the loin and well set on and used tail. A clean and tidy mover, holding his outline in profile. Very close decision for BD, today just preferring the drive of winner so had to settle for RBD, RBIS & BVIS

Puppy Bitch (2,0)

1. Miss Hannington - Boudivella Fire Cracker

Lots to like on this 11 month old blue brindle bitch. She has a pleasing outline, good body proportions and balance, and is well developed all through. Her head is developing nicely, with good width, and strength to the muzzle. A lovely dark eye and neat ears giving an endearing expression. Strong neck, lovely depth and spring to the ribcage, correct front slightly bowed and feet turning out a little. Holding a good topline both stood and on the move. A happy mover, but not quite as settled on the flooring today. Shown in good coat of a harsh texture.

2. Mrs Kirkwood - Cazcade Coming around Again

Similar age to winner, but much more immature at present. One with much promise for the future. Today looked a little longer in her outline and not as mature through the body as winner. Very feminine head, with an alert but gentle expression. Her eyes are dark brown and she has neat mobile ears. Good length of neck, well boned limbs and neat feet. Just needing time to body. She excels on the move, very free and clean in her action. Nicely handled and presented with a harsh jacket.

Junior Bitch (1,1)

Post Graduate Bitch (1,0)

1. S Pierce - Boudivella Maisie

Appealing 2 year old blue brindle bitch, with many fine qualities. Liked her overall size, shape and balance. When stood she presents a typical outline. She has a strong but feminine head, good width to the skull and strength to the foreface, a lovely dark eye, with a well defined stop. Strong neck, topline with a slight rise, super depth to the brisket and well developed in forechest. Correct front with good bone and tight feet. Moved parallel behind with good width and holding her shape in profile. Just lacked a little sparkle in the final challenge today.

1. Mrs Kirkwood - Cazcade Betty Boop

Smart 2 year old brindle bitch, who took the class on her movement today. A very feminine bitch, with good substance and bone. Liked her head, it has good proportions, with width to the skull and strength to the muzzle, lovely dark round eyes. Strong muscular neck , firm topline, a fraction longer in body. Liked her depth of brisket and well sprung ribcage. Strong hindquarters, which she used to good effect to drive around the ring. True in her action fore and aft. Well presented in a harsh jacket – RBB

2. Miss Hannington - Mo Stor Ailin Of Tatlers Jacks Clann At Boudivella (imp)

Wheaten bitch, with a lovely outline when stood. She has the desired substance and strength yet still retaining her femininity. Liked her body proportions on the stack. Well balanced head, feminine but with strength, neat ears and round dark eyes. Her topline has the desired rise to the loin, with a deep brisket and good ribcage. Moderate in her hindquarters. Today unsettled on the move, which cost her the class, but held a nice outline in profile. Well presented

Veteran Bitch (1,0)

1. Mrs Rogers - Ch Jeonty Jyn A New Hope

Super outline on this 7 year old wheaten bitch, she presents a shapely silhouette when stood. She is of a nice size, has substance, but still very feminine. Found her to be harmonious in her proportions and so very balanced. Pleasing head, showing good ratios and strength. Kind dark round eyes full of spirit. Good length of neck, deep in body with a lovely ribcage. A well held topline with a slight rise. She stands on well boned limbs and in good muscle tone. Moved with enthusiasm and drive, at times a little too much on the slippery floor! Good texture to her coat – Delighted to award her BB.
