Open Show – Thursday 4th July 2024
Judge – Mrs Jane Eyeington (Meadowdale)
I would like to thank the officers and committee for their kind invitation to judge at the ‘Eastern Counties Cavalier Kind Charles Spaniel Society’ Open Show, held in conjunction with Boston Championship Show. I was most honoured to have the privilege to judge this wonderful breed. We were fortunate to have a large, well manicured, flat ring, where all the dogs had the opportunity to show themselves off to advantage.
A huge thank you to every exhibitor for the pleasure of your beautiful dogs, it really is a super breed to judge. I was delighted with the entry of 86 dogs giving me plenty of quality dogs to judge. Some very close decisions in the classes and challenges. So thank you for affording me the honour and gracious sportsmanship on my decisions. Thank you to my lovely stewards for keeping me on track.
Veteran Dog (3,0)
1. Wimberly & Newman - Trishine’s Celestial Dream With Finjaro
7 year old Blenheim dog, who as a veteran still liked to provide his handler with a challenge! But once he settled, showed a lovely outline with strength all through but also a masculine grace. Lovely soft and gentle expression from his large dark eyes, muzzle well finished and correct amount of stop. Good length of neck and firm topline. Liked his depth and well sprung ribcage. Moved out purposefully and with drive, a little close in the rear. Well presented, with a more blanket chestnut jacket, coat in full bloom. – BVD & BVIS
2. Miss Hobbs - Beaconsfylde Catch The Kiss JW ShCM VW
Another lovely veteran who carries his years well, at 9 years old this Blenheim boy can certainly show himself off in style. A little stronger in head than winner, but with a pleasing expression, flattish skull, well set ears and dark large eyes. Liked his well developed body with a good ribcage and firm topline. Holding his shape well on the move. Presented in good coat.
3. Mr & Mrs Mynott - Honeybet Heads Up
Minor Puppy Dog (3,1)
1. R Jaramillo - Conabec Scrumpy Jack
Very promising 8 month old Blenheim dog, still very much in his puppy coat, but what a sweetie. Under the fluff, you can see a lovely shape, just needing time for it all to come together. He has a delightful head, such a keen but gentle expression. Lovely large dark eyes and pigmentation, nice finish to the muzzle. Held a firm topline with good body proportions. Moved with drive from the rear.
2. Mrs MacKenzie - Carsan In Your Dreams
Shapely 7 month old B&T dog, who showed himself off. When stood he is balanced and unexaggerated, with a nice flow to his topline. Pleasing head shape, and dark expressive eyes. He has enough depth and substance for his age, with a nice bend of stifle. Moving out well, just a bit bum high at the moment in profile.
Puppy Dog (7,0) a lovely class of youngsters, very close decisions
1. Mrs MacKenzie - Carsan Hot An Tasty
Smart 11 month old Blenheim dog, who showed his socks off today to take this lovely class. Still needing to mature all through but holds a lovely outline and his demeanour is eager to please. Good balance to his head piece, nicely filled in below the eyes, and well finished off muzzle, lovely dark inquisitive eyes. Good depth with ribs carried well back, with a good firm topline which flows into a well set on and carried tail. Taking this class for his free moving strides and drive from the rear – BPD & BPIS
2. Chapman & Ireland - Ellemich Bullet Proof
Loved the outline of this 9 month old Blenheim dog and thought he would be my winner initially. Liked his compact outline, and everything in the right place for his age. Typical head and soft expression, good length of neck, well developed through the ribcage, holding a firm topline and nicely angulated hindquarters. Sound but unfortunately seemed a little jaded on the move today which was a shame.
3. Mr & Mrs Mynott - Honeybet Hamilton
Junior Dog (3,1)
1. Mrs Koster-Tindall - Harana Now You Has Jazz
Very stylish 13 month old B&T dog, very striking appearance with lovely glossy jet black jacket and rich tan markings. On the stack he presents a balanced and flowing outline. Pleasing masculine head, flattish skull, high set ears, nicely filled in below the eyes which are dark and kind. He has a good length of neck flowing into a firm level topline. Chest of good depth with a nice spring of rib. Moving out well, tending to fly his tail a fraction today. Presented in a glorious flat coat.
2. Miss Kynaston - Granasil Ovaltine
Pleasing 15 month old ruby dog, liked his overall shape and compact outline. Being a little mischievous today and not settling on the move. Masculine head, gentle expression, long well feathered and high set ears with large dark eyes. Enough neck, holding a strong and firm topline, liked his forechest, depth and spring of rib. Kept his outline on the move in profile, not quite as together as winner today behind
Novice Dog (5,1)
1. Mr & Mrs Mynott - Honeybet Hamilton
Much to like on this 9 month old Blenheim dog, previously 3rd in the strong puppy dog class. Liked his overall make and stamp, so clean in outline and shapely. He has a nice flow from nose to tail. Pleasing and balanced head with an endearing expression, flattish skull, well placed ears with a dark eye and pigmentation. Good length of neck smoothly flowing into a firm topline, with a well set on and used tail. Balanced angulation fore and aft. Just needing time to finish maturing into himself. A happy mover
2. Wilkins & Wilcock - Fortunamajor Bettelgeuse
Eye catching 12 month old tri dog, marked with a dark blanket black. Masculine head, with clear tan markings, flat skull, large dark eye with a gentle expression, a little deeper in stop, well filled below the eye, and nicely finished muzzle. Moderate length of neck and firm topline. Well developed though the body, a fraction longer in loin. Moving freely, with a good head and tail carriage

Special Limit Dog (Blenheim or Tricolour) (3,1)
1. Chapman & Ireland - Notorious Du Chateau Noblesse At Ellemich
Such a smart 21 month old Blenheim dog, who presents a lovely silhouette when stood. Really liked him, and was up there for top awards. Impressive compact outline, sturdy but with masculine elegance. Handsome head, with a lovely soft and gentle expression, and nothing is overdone. Good length of neck with a slight arch, firm topline, well sprung ribcage. Right amount of bone and corresponding angulation fore and aft. Moved out cleanly but in the challenge lacked the drive of the winners today.
2. Lock & Thomas - Bowfort Bo Jo
Liked the overall size, substance, and masculinity of this 5 year old Blenheim dog. But not really giving his all to show off his virtues. Nicely balance head, with the right amount of stop, well filled in below the eyes, which are large and dark. Enough neck, firm topline and well set on tail. Well developed through the body. Presented in full bloom with a lovely well broken coat and rich chestnut markings. A Steady and true mover
Special Limit Dog (Black & Tan or Ruby) (2,1)
1. Mr & Mrs Ryan - Harana Pinball Wizard
Most appealing 2 year old Black & Tan dog, who shows himself off with confidence and style. Pleasing head shape, with a flattish backskull, well placed ears and those dark soulful eyes. Good length of neck, with admirable depth to the brisket and fill in of forechest. Ribs well sprung and carried well back a fraction longer in loin. Strong hindquarters, which he put to good use on the move, to drive around the ring. Immaculate presentation with his glossy flat black jacket and rich tan markings – RBD

1. Arrowsmith & Vorderstrasse - Arrowbien Dream Weaver
Beautiful 2 year old well broken Blenheim dog, thought him right for size, substance, and masculinity. When stood he presented a picture of balance, with a compact outline and coat in full bloom. He has a soft and melting expression from those large round dark eyes, his long high set, well feathered ears framing his face. Well developed through the body, with a good spring to the rib cage and nicely angulated hindquarters, holding a firm and level topline both stood and on the move. It is on the move where he came into his own, a free and positive mover both fore and aft whilst maintaining his outline in profile. Delighted to award him BD & BIS
Veteran Bitch (1,0)
1. Miss Colavecchia - Carolus Miss Liberty VW
Delightful 11 year old Blenheim bitch. She has a compact and balanced outline and stands maintaining her outline, whilst looking adoringly at her handler. Liked her overall size and stamp. Pretty feminine head, flat skull, well feathered long high set ears and those large dark eyes. Well developed through the body, with a good ribcage and forechest. Moderate hindquarters. Moving out well, but in the challenge not quite the drive of the dog. Beautifully presented in a full coat. A credit to the owner - BVB
Minor Puppy Bitch (7,3)
1. Chapman & Ireland - Ellemich Bombshell
Very much a babe, but how delightful. At 8 months old this tri bitch stole my heart. She has the most appealing head and expression, her large dark eyes, are set well apart, the right amount of stop, and well feathered ears framing her face. Good length of neck, firm topline, ribs well sprung, forelegs straight and well under her. Needs to come up on the leg a tiny fraction for complete balance. A happy mover, with a good tail carriage. Coat well broken, flat, and silky.
2. Wilkins & Wilcock - Zandawns Rita
7 month old Blenheim bitch, looking a little raw compared with the winner, but the basics are all there, she is just needing to fill her frame. Liked her overall size and shape. Another with a pretty head, flat skull, nicely filled in under the eye, gentle stop and dark round eyes giving a soft expression. Good length of neck, firm topline, decent fill in of forechest, not quite the ribbing as yet. Good rear angulation put to use on the move to show good drive.

1. Mr & Mrs Sedgbeer - Russmic Olivia Rose
Very self-assured, happy, and outgoing 9 month old ruby bitch, loved her fun personality and zest for life! She is a real eye catcher, as she is so balanced, with a good height to length ratio, and a lovely flow to her outline. Feminine head, she has a gentle but cheeky expression. Good length of neck, flowing seamlessly into a firm and well held topline. Lovely development of forechest and depth to the brisket. The ribs are well sprung and carried well back. Her angulation is nicely balanced fore and aft. Showed herself off on the move, striding out well, with an ever wagging tail. Shown with a rich red jacket, a little in her underwear at present - BPB.
2. Jaramillo & Chadwick - Conabec Causing Chaos
Another lovely youngster, 10 month old Blenheim bitch, close up to winner. Taken by the overall picture when stood, as she is shapely and of a lovely type. Pleasing feminine head, of good proportions, large dark round eyes and dark pigmentation. Good length of neck with a slight arch, firm level topline, ribs developing nicely, a fraction longer in loin. Liked her hindquarters, with a good bend of stifle and width to the thigh. A positive and driving action from the rear.

Stylish 16 month old Blenheim bitch, built on slightly sturdier lines, but so very feminine. Giving a pleasing outline when stood. Feminine head, with a flat skull and well placed ears and lovely dark gentle eyes. She is a really nice bitch to go over, with a lovely well developed body, good fill in of forechest, well sprung ribs and a firm topline finishing with strong hindquarters. 3. Ms Ireland - Charnell Here Comes Summer
Graduate Bitch (4,2)
1. Mrs Williams - Granasil Tea House Moon On Sancana
Outgoing 22 month old B&T bitch, loved the rapport she had with her handler. Very feminine all through. She has such a soft and gentle expression, with large round dark eyes, well cushioned muzzle and high set ears. Would prefer a touch more neck, firm in topline, good depth and ribs carried well back. Moved with lovely drive, a tad close behind, but happy in her action. Presented with a glossy black jacket and rich tan markings.
2. Mr & Mrs Gibb-Stuart - Verheyen Jolene For Tangledwood
Much to like about this 16 month old Blenheim bitch, but she was a little excitable today and not settling. Her outline when stood is compact and shapely, with good overall balance. She has strength and elegance. Pleasing head, with a flat skull, high set ears, and lovely large dark eyes. Good length of neck with a slight arch, well developed through the body, tending to lose her topline a little in the excitement of it all, falling away a little at the croup. Moved with verve and drive. Presented in a well broken coat.
Post Graduate Bitch (5,3)
1. Mrs Floyd - Laurami Comfortably Numb
Liked the stamp of this 2 year old Blenheim bitch she has a typical outline and sound in her construction. She just didn’t seem as settled or have the sparkle of the winners today which was a shame. Liked her head and expression, dark eyes and pigmentation, flat skull, and well feathered leathers, with such a soft and devoted expression for her handler. She has a lovely flow through the neck and topline to a well set on and carried tail. Well developed in the body. Harmonious angulation fore and aft. Moved soundly and true, just missing the sparkle in the final challenge, but liked her a lot.
2. Mrs Elkin - Elkjen Layla May
Shapely 3 year old Blenheim bitch , she is lovely and compact in her profile when stood. Liked her fun and outgoing nature, such a lovely temperament. She has a sweet expression with a bit of a cheeky glint in her large dark eyes. Her head is well proportioned, with a flattish skull, long high set ears and well filled below the eyes. What a little show off this 3 year old B&T bitch is, delightful to see her full of beans and enjoying herself. Liked her overall size, shape, and femininity.
