Special Award Classes – Held in conjunction with the club open show

Saturday 25th May 2024

Judge – Mrs Jane Eyeington (Meadowdale)

I would like to thank the officers and committee for their kind invitation to judge the ‘Specials Classes’ at their breed club open show. A huge ‘Thank you’ to all the exhibitors for a fabulous entry across the classes, it was a true honour to have the opportunity to judge your lovely dogs.

Yearling Dog or Bitch (6,2)

1. Bailey & Hancocks - Selestar Lemon Drizzle

Pleasing outline to this 21 month old Black & Tan bitch. Feminine all through, and showed well for her handler. Liked her overall size, shape, and proportions. Head shows good ratios, with a lovely dark eye. Good length of neck flowing into a well held topline. Chest is down to the elbows with ribs carried well back. On the move she held her shape, keeping a firm topline, would like a little tidier behind but striding out well.

2. Mrs Hughes - Poolheywood Barney

Upstanding 22 month old Black & Tan dog. Full of character and confidence. Masculine head, with parallel planes and a good length to the foreface, a shade lighter in eye colour, but with a keen and alert expression. Good length of neck, deep in brisket, and stands on well boned limbs. Ribs are well sprung, but a fraction longer in loin. Liked his strong muscular hindquarters. Holds a firm level topline on the move.

3. Mrs Martin - Firkinfoot Hopscotch Hebe

4. Miss Cutler - Lankeela Tracy’s Quest

Post Graduate Dog or Bitch (10,1)

1. Miss Grant-Parkes - Parabar Puzzling Piper

Sturdy and impressive 11 month old Black & Tan dog. He is typical in outline and sound in construction. Balanced masculine head, with good width to the back skull, showing a moderate stop, with strength to the foreface. Lovley dark almond eye giving him a keen but gentle expression. Balanced in his overall proportions, with a strong neck of good length, flowing seamlessly into a well held firm topline. Super depth and development of forechest. Moving out soundly in all directions and shown with a good jacket

2. Miss Cutler - Lankeela Frosty Knickers

Smart 2 year old Black & Tan bitch, she holds a lovely outline when stood, sturdy but feminine with good overall balance and proportions. Nicely balanced head, with good width to the back skull, lovely dark almond eye, not wanting to use her ears today. Well developed through the body, with depth and a good spring to the ribcage. Holding a lovely firm topline both stood and on the move. Liked her brisk side gait, not quite as clean behind today as winner.

3. Gamble & Pullen - Srenscem Edred’s Ediva

4. Mr & Mrs Lawrence - Brinscall Moors Bertie

5. Mrs Johnson - Ribblespride Dance Away

Open Dog or Bitch (9,0)

WOW, what a fabulous class to judge, all super dogs, and the placing could easily change on another day.

1. Mrs Felstead - Ch Selestar Salix Lutea With Foveaux

This black & Tan bitch who is coming up 5 years of age looked an absolute picture on the stack, and did not disappoint on the move. She never stopped showing to present a balanced outline with a shapely silhouette. Just flowing from one part to the next. Very feminine head, showing good balance, flat back skull, slight stop and good length to the foreface, just loved her keen and alert expression from her dark almond eyes. Clean neck of good length, with smooth flowing lines to a firm and level topline. Good depth and ribbing with a strong loin. Wide thighs which she put to effective use to drive around the ring with precise footfall and at one with her handler. She was a little out of coat, but presented with a harsh texture to the topcoat.

2. Miss Grant-Parkes - Ch Parabar Mohican’s Medlar

So very close up to winner, liked him very much, he just oozes quality and breed type. A sturdy and well built black & Tan dog, coming up 4 years of age. Unfortunately, we were at the end of a long day for him and seemed a little flat on the move. A real eye catcher when stood, as he presents shapely outline, powerfully built but not overdone and in lovely coat and condition. Masculine head, with good width to the backskull, well placed ears, strength to the foreface and a lovely dark almond eye. Well developed all through the body, with a super forechest and ribbing. Holding a firm and level topline both stood and on the move. Strong and wide hammy quarters with a well bent stifle. True on the move in all directions.
