Coalville & District Canine Society

Coalville and District Canine Society January 13th 2024 Golden Retriever Many thanks to Coalville and District Canine Society for their kind invitation to judge Golden Retrievers. My steward was super efficient and kept the ring running smoothly, for which I am very grateful. Thanks also to all who entered and allowed me to go over their beautiful dogs. Puppy 6(0) This was such a difficult class to judge. Six beautiful puppies that it was a privilege to encounter. In the end I felt my decision was in essence down to nitpicking as they all had such excellent attributes. The competition was pretty stiff. 1. List’s Haydengold Moment in Time Bearing in mind the above, this beautifully proportioned and constructed girl stood out by a country mile, catching my eye the moment she entered the ring. She has the sweetest, most feminine head set onto a strong neck with good length. Dentition was correct and pigmentation dark. Excellent angulation front and back, she stood on straight legs with lovely round catlike feet. Her topline was level and tail carried correctly. Movement was a pleasure to watch, she floated round the ring demonstrating good reach and drive. BP, Puppy group 1. 2. Golders Wild Kisses with Summeramba of Sunshine’s Valley (Imp Bel) NAF This handsome pale gold boy has a lovely masculine head with good pigment and a kindly expression. Correct dentition. Great bone and neat feet. Good length of neck leading to a level topline and tailset. Angulation front and rear is good. He was a little giddy on the move, but I was able to see good reach and drive enabling him to cover the ground well. I feel he has lots of potential, but needs to body up more and settle to the task in hand more reliably. 3. Riley’s Jasrolyn Doe Rayme Junior 3 (1) 1. Pratt’s Rosyth Kind of Magic Darker gold girl, having a lovely day out and wagging her tail non-stop. She has a sweet expression and a very feminine head. Dark pigmentation and correct dentition. Nice length of neck. Neat feet. Her proportions and angulation were good and she has a level topline and good tailset. She moved fluidly round the ring, with good reach and drive. 2. Staniland’s Bermary Sweet Child of Mine Leggy pale cream girl. Much more settled in this class, and better handled. Consequently she presented herself better, although she is still very young and has lots of time to develop further. She has a pretty, feminine head with a kind, dark pigmented eye and soft expression. Lovely length of neck leading to level topline which is present under quite a profuse coat. Good reach and drive when running in a straight line, but this needs work to make it consistent. Graduate 5 (4) 1. Pratt’s Rosyth Kind of Magic Repeat from junior. Postgraduate 4 (2) 1. Archer’s Haydengold Just a Rumour at Sunandair JW This beautiful mid gold boy has a super ring presence. He was clearly having a wonderful time, whilst being attentive to his handler. To me he epitomises a golden retriever male with a broad masculine head and a cheeky yet melting expression. Correct dentition and good pigmentation present. He was supported by strong straight legs, with excellent bone, front and rear, and lovely round cat-like paws. His layback of shoulder is good and matched by the return of upper arm. A level topline and correct tailset is followed by good rear angulation and width of second thigh. Moving around the ring he demonstrated good reach, covering the ground with ease and travelling straight and true. The picture was completed by a dense coat in excellent condition. BOB 2. Pratt’s Rosyth Keltic Lord Another beautiful dark gold boy. Although more lightly built and taller, he has everything where it should be. Sweet, yet masculine head with lovely kind dark rimmed eye and correct dentition. He was a little unsettled on the move and thus didn’t present himself quite as well as 1. This was also a difficult decision and in the end the maturity and demeanour of 1 tipped the balance. Open 8 (4) 1. Bufton’s Phoslas Polly Flinders Such a sweet pale gold little girl. She has great style when moving around the ring. Attentive to her handler she covered the ground with ease. Lighter in bone than some she nevertheless possesses all the characteristics one would expect of a quality golden retriever. Pretty feminine head with dark eye and gentle expression and correct bite. Her proportions were correct and angulation front and rear was spot on. Good length of neck leads to a level topline and tailset. A real sweetie. RBOB. 2. Pratt’s Rosyth Keltic Lord Repeat of PG2 3. Clarke’s Haydengold One More Knight. Jane Booth Alihelnix
