ASHBOURNE DCS (28/12/24)

Many thanks to the committee for inviting me to judge at this well-supported show. I thoroughly enjoyed my day and thanks must also go to you (the exhibitors) for some great entries to judge.


MIN S/H DACHSHUND

PUPPY (5,4)

Debbiejay Pippa Funnel Mit Kieferjagen. Chocolate/tan bitch of good overall size and balance. Typical head and OK eye colour. Decent angles fore/aft with good ground clearance and level topline. Would prefer her a little shorter in hock. Moved soundly from all angles, maintaining her shape. BP

SPECIAL YEARLING (5,3)

Kleinstar Moongazer. This red male is on the larger side but still very balanced and typical. Loved his masculine head of correct shape with dark eyes and high earset. Long neck with correct shoulder placement, good upper arm and prominent keel. Well boned limbs with well padded feet. Good ground clearance with firm topline and underline. Correct rear angles with nice croup and tailset. Carries himself well on the move, retaining his shape. A comfortable BOB today.

Winterfield Lady In Red. Longer cast than 1, excellent shape and expression. Liked her angles fore/aft with enough ground clearance. Well bodied up and good muscling. Strong topline and OK underline. Covers the ground well from the side but could be tidier coming towards.

POST GRADUATE (5,3)

Winterfield Lucky Star. Good overall shape and balance in profile. Liked her head shape in profile but would just prefer a bit more of it all through viewed from the front. Correct angles fore/aft with well developed keel. Correct topline, excellent width through her quarters. Sound mover from all angles. RBOB

Kleinstar Blue Moon. This dog is a very different shape and style to 1. Having more leg and a shorter body. Liked his houndy head with dark eyes. Not quite the front of 1. Good ribbing and topline. Strongly made rear quarters. Sound mover but not the reach and drive of the winner.

OPEN (4,2)

Winterfield’s June Of Arabia. On the limits for size but very good shape and overall balance. Feminine head with dark eyes and well sized ear leathers. Reachy neck into a well made forehand. Enough leg with a deep brisket and firm underline. Well made rear assembly but would prefer a shade more width. Good mover all round.

Merryline Alexandra at Kleinstar. A very honest bitch, free from exaggeration. Well-shaped backskull but would prefer a stronger muzzle. Enough neck, well bodied, decent leg length with a firm topline. Strong rear assembly. Moved steadily but not quite the forward reach of 1.


MIN W/H DACHSHUND

PUPPY (2,0)

Emem Joyful Sunshine. What a cracker! Absolutely loved her for size, type and balance. Beautiful conical head with dark eyes, strong muzzle and ample facial furnishings. Superb neck into shoulder with a long upper arm and well developed keel. Excellent bone and feet. Good ground clearance for age with a deep brisket, firm topline and underline. Excellent ribbing and loin that flows into a good croup and rear assembly. Coat texture is excellent for age. Super mover with a ground covering stride and ring presence in spades. Delighted to award her BOB & BP!

Merryline Martha with Rosencrantz. First show today and was definitely a little awe inspired by it all! Beautiful head with good strength and shape. Decent front, excellent topline and ribbing. Needs to strengthen in rear with age. Showed glimpses of sound movement when settled.

Barratini Song And Dance with Rosencrantz. Bigger bitch with an excellent head and bone. Loved her neck and front with good ground clearance. Level topline, stands firm in front and behind. Prefer a shade more stifle. Very good coat texture, sound mover.

Ashdalewharf Blossoming. A rangier style of bitch with more leg than 1. Typical head and eye. Not the forehand of 1. Decent bone, level topline and strong rear with well defined underline. Steady mover from all angles, coat texture OK.

OPEN (3,0)

Emem Hope For Sunshine JW. Liked her very much for size and type. Pretty head and eye but would prefer a touch more strength through her muzzle. Excellent balance of angulation both fore/aft. Correct length of body with ribs that go well back. Level topline, strong rear. OK coat texture. Moves well from all angles but not the coat or carriage on the move of the Puppy, RBOB.

Dereheath Shaken Not Stired at Birichino. Bigger dog who presented an impressive shape on first glance. Superb head and expression with correct strength through skull and muzzle. Long neck into OK forehand. Excellent bone and feet. Level topline, correct rear angulation with good width through his quarters. Excellent coat texture, easy mover all round but not quite the forward reach of 1.


MIN L/H DACHSHUND

PUPPY (2,0)

Scrumptious Red On The Dot. This male was well grown but a good one for shape and overall balance. Loved his masculine, conical head with dark eyes and correct ear leathers. Excellent bone and feet. Would prefer a more well-angulated front, decent keel. Level topline with good ribbing and underline. Strongly made rear with firm hocks. Really easy on the move, maintaining his shape. BP & RBOB

Erinshore Lady Grace. Really played her owner up today. Pretty head and eye, in good coat and hard condition. Plenty of length to her with decent ground clearance. Needs to settle.

SPECIAL YEARLING (1,0)

Hanishan Firey Fox. A good male for size and overall proportions. Decent front with length of leg, very good bone and feet. Needs to relax in his topline. Well made rear, sound mover. In excellent coat.

POST GRADUATE (1,0)

Custard And Jelly. Another well grown one but of really good type. Typical head shape in profile with correct eye colour. Liked the shoulder angulation but a little forward placed. Level topline with good rear angulation and firm hocks. Moves well from all angles.

Ch. Summerview Hello Hugo JW. Really appealed for type, size and balance. Such a classic head with dark eyes and strong jaw. Flows from his neck into shoulder with well boned limbs and neat feet. Good length of leg with plenty of ground clearance. Level topline and good underline. Excellent rear angulation. Would prefer a shade more width all through. Really stylish side gait with correct carriage and maintaining his shape. Unsurprised to see he has his title. BOB


NOVA SCOTIA DUCK TOLLING RETRIEVER

PUPPY (3,0)

Coedhelyg Ho Tee Machine. Well grown young male who appealed for his strength in bone and balance of angulation. Loved his wedge shaped head with flat cheeks and correct eye shape/shade. Well bodied up with good spring of rib for age. Needs to firm up through his middle - but he has time on his side. Stands firm and true naturally. Understandably he is quite baby-ish going/coming but really demonstrates such good deportment when viewed from the side. In excellent coat and condition. BP & PG2

Wakaduze Dotame. Slightly rangier than 1 but of good overall make and shape. Prettiest of heads with plenty of width through skull and muzzle for age. Plenty of leg with a firm topline and decent ribbing. Well made forequarters but would prefer more bend of stifle. Holds an excellent outline on the go-round.

SPECIAL YEARLING (3,0)

Eusanit Loved And Lost. Really typy male of medium size with strong bone. Excellent head and eye, using his ears well at all times. Strong neck that flows into excellent forehand assembly. Straight limbs with well shaped feet. Still needing to develop a fraction more through his middle with maturity. Good topline, Stands firmly behind with strong hocks. Carries himself well on the move and is sound going/coming.

Flavour Of Tokaj Aszu Suchy Las Vegas to Tivalake (Imp Pol). I felt this bitch was in a very inbetween stage in comparison to 1 on the day. Built on slightly taller lines than the winner. I loved her head and expression with the correct skull shape and eye colour. Smooth transition from neck into shoulder but preferred the upper arm of 1. Excellent bone and feet. Needs to deepen through her body to finish. Very sound on the move and carries herself typically at all times.

POST GRADUATE (2,0)

Cfyre’s High Tea at Tollpepper JW (Imp Can). Judged this one before, she’d left her best jacket at home today but it meant there was nothing to hide. What a fabulous bitch she has grown into! Immediately taken with her obvious balance and correct proportions. Prettiest of heads with a moderate stop. Super neck and forehand assembly with proportionate bone and round feet. Excellent maturity through her body with a level topline, well sprung ribs and firm underline. Correct rear angulation with correct width and firm, well let down hocks. Such an eye-catching mover with breed-typical carriage and as sound as they come away/back. Just felt she lost her verve in the challenge. Could go all the way! RBOB

OPEN (10,3) - A really cracking class!

Sh Ch/Ir Ch. Riverwatcher Koda. Upper medium-sized bitch but of such excellent quality. She displays such obvious balance and beautiful breed type. Well off for bone and substance. Loved her clean cut head with dark almond shaped eyes. Always on her toes and using her ears well. Excellent forehand with good forechest and deep brisket - would not want her presented any heavier. Good spring of rib with short loin. Enough rear angulation, standing on firm hocks. She stands firm and true from all angles. Demonstrates such a springy action on the go-round carrying her tail correctly with sound front/hind action. BOB

Ir Ch. Eusanit Proper Job JW. Top size male who commands your attention on the stack. Well off for bone and substance. Masculine, head with clean cheeks, would not want any more stop. correct eye shape and colour. Strong neck of medium length that flows into his correctly made forehand with good length of leg. OK for body length, excellent spring of rib and firm topline. Moderately angled rear with well let down hocks and wide thighs. Impressive and very powerful side gait. Preferred the rear action of 1.

PUPPY (6,0) - A lovely class of babies to judge!

Linirgor Adeline at Treeville. Loved this bitch for breed type and correct body proportions. Beautiful head with melting expression, dark eyes and well shaped back skull. Correct reach of neck, well boned limbs with the neatest of feet. Excellent depth of body for age with decent spring of ribs and firm topline. Correct croup angle and tail set. Wide thighs, well bent stifles and short hocks. Carried herself well on the move once settled, needs time to firm up. BP

Marsabit Celtic Harp. Longer cast than 1 but presents a very pleasing shape. Prettiest of heads with dark eyes and correctly set ears. Strong neck but not quite the shoulder of 1. Correct length of leg with a decent depth of brisket for age, excellent topline and strongly made rear with wide thighs and short hocks. Loved her side gait but would prefer a shade more width all through which still has time to develop.

SPECIAL YEARLING (8,2)

Drumkilty One Night Stand for Sandaula. Ultra impressive make and shape, built on clean lines and free from exaggeration. Immediately impressed for her type, balance of angulation and correct proportions. Classic head and expression with good pigment and dark eyes. Super flow of neck into shoulder with long upper arm and well boned limbs. Her topline is continuously level from withers to tailset. Excellent hind assembly with well bent stifles and well let down hocks. Good width over her quarters with some time to develop further. Very easy mover who holds her shape well, just a shade close going away.

Rosinante Here We Go Again. Loved her make and shape as well. Beautifully shaped head with strength through her muzzle. Excellent angulation both fore/aft with a level topline and correct tail set. Excellent bone and feet. Very soung going/coming but was a little restricted in profile today. Just needs to finish and mature, would like to see her in 18 months.

Drumkilty One Night Stand for Sandaula.

Shebelta Sweet Home Alabama. Well boned male with a masculine head, kind expression and correctly sized ears. Strong limbs with the neatest of feet. Just preferred the upper arm of 1. Excellent depth & width through his body, firm in topline with a clean underline. Sturdy rear with correct width, angulation and firm hocks. Very easy mover from all angles, maintaining his shape and using his tail well.

Drumkilty One Night Stand for Sandaula.

Mossburn Golly Miss Molly. Judged her before and still really like her. From a shorter mould than 1 with a bit more leg. Liked her obvious femininity while still retaining her strength and substance. Excellent width and shape to her muzzle and skull with dark eyes. Symmetrical angles both fore/aft with a level topline, just preferring the croup of 1. Plenty of width over her quarters. A very sound and steady mover who retained her shape at all times.

Rosinante Here We Go Again.

Haydengold Time To Remember. A slightly shorter bodied bitch with a fraction more leg than 2. Absolutely loved her for type and balance. Classic head shape in profile with ample width through her skull and muzzle, loved her melting expression. Reachy neck into a well made forehand with good width over her quarters, excellent bone and feet. Well bodied up with super spring of rib, firm topline and short loin. Symmetrical rear angulation with width over her pelvis and firm hocks. Very stylish and easy on the move, being sound from all angles. Thought her to be super! BOB

PUPPY (1,0)

Oakswarren Trickster. Impressive young dog for type who has done all of his growing first and his body now needs to catch up. Liked his medium bone. Noble head of good proportions with tight fitting lips and correct eye shape. Reachy neck into well laid shoulders, needing to deepen through his body with time. Well off for rear angulation. Once settled he goes on an easy stride. BP

SPECIAL YEARLING (2,0)

Oakswarren Feel The Heat at Alaszdale (AI) JW. Greatly appealed for his strength and type. Loved his noble head with the desired leanness and correct width between the ears. Excellent forehand with well laid shoulders and corresponding upper arm, good leg length with ample bone. Well bodied up and in hard condition with a firm topline, good ribbing and short loin. Excellent hind angulation. Coat has the required greasiness. Goes with a lively action on the go round, would prefer him less proud of his tail. RBOB

Glenbrows Reminiscent. Ultra-feminine bitch with the prettiest of heads and kind expression. Excellent bone for her size, decent shoulder but preferred the upper arm of 1. Correct topline with OK croup and good rear angulation. Very sound mover who holds her shape well.

POST GRADUATE (4,1)

Oakswarren Light My Fire. Not the biggest but she makes up for it in quality and balance. Immediately impresses for type. Beautiful head and expression with dark eyes and correctly sized ear leathers. Loved her forehand with straight limbs, feet could be tighter. Good body with level topline and clean underline. Corresponding rear angulation with good width over her pelvis. Comes alive on the move with such an effortless and elegant action. An exciting bitch that could go all the way. BOB

Nemzet Kincse Ipa of Alazsdale (Imp Hun). Strong dog, well up to size. Excellent, breed-typical head with a long neck and medium bone for size. Moderate angles both fore/aft with a level topline and good width throughout. Balanced stride on the move but preferred the reach of 1. Coat is greasy to the touch and he is presented in hard condition.

Beresford Stand At Ease. ESS dog, really liked him for type and balance of angulation. Correctly proportioned skull with clean lips and flat cheeks. Correct ear set with a strong, reachy neck that flows into a textbook forehand. Excellent limbs and feet. Wide through his quarters and body with plenty of leg. Balanced rear angulation with short hocks. Naturally, quite baby-ish on the move but goes with style.

Benbuie Commanche. Gordon Setter dog, gained all of his height first and now his body needs to catch up. Very stylish with the very best bone and feet. Deep through his skull and muzzle with good width for age, dark eyes and low set ears. Long neck into well laid shoulders with some forechest. Excellent depth of brisket for age with wide quarters fore/aft. Correct length from hip to hock while still retaining wide thighs. Would prefer his croup to be a little more flat to be critical. Very sound on the move and uses his tail well. Excellent tan markings.

SPECIAL YEARLING (9,3)

Beresford Stand N’Stare. ESS dog, litter brother to the winner of puppy. Many of my previous comments apply to him. Really appealed for breed type and strength in bone. Well bodied up for age with good length of leg. Today I felt he was a better mover than his brother with a bit more swing from the shoulder and slightly more relaxed shape when viewed from the side. BP & PG1

Rommy de Ubbadat JW (Imp Esp). SWD bitch. Medium sized and of very good breed type. Liked her overall shape and body proportions. Correct head proportions with strong skull and big nose. Moderately angled both/fore aft with a level topline and correct underline. Typical action on the move but would prefer a firmer rear. Rustic coat presentation of good quality. Handler needs to refrain from over stretching her neck when stacked.

Unica de Ubbadat (ATC). SWD bitch. Excellent type, shape and proportions. Loved her flat skull, dark eyes and big nose. Moderate angulation fore/aft with width through her quarters, plenty of leg with level topline and clean underline. Goes with the desired brisk action when viewed from the side. In an ultra-rustic coat presentation. RBAVNSC

Shersona I Believe In Angels at Beresford. ESS bitch. Very pretty bitch with the most beautiful expression. Good reach of neck but would prefer a better angled forehand overall. Well bodied up with plenty of leg. Well off for rear angulation with width over her quarters. Goes with style on the move and decent swing from the shoulder. Excellent handling & presentation.

Sh Ch. Beresford Lock Down. ESS dog. Absolutely commanded the ring from the moment he walked in. Obvious symmetrical and strength on first glance. Beautifully shaped head with clean lips, good chiselling and kindest of eyes. Reachy neck into an excellent forehand with good forechest, super bone and feet. Big ribcage with level topline and correct leg length. Corresponding rear angulation with short hocks. Could not be ignored on the move, in first class condition. He made his handler work for it as she tried to rein in his enthusiasm. He set the benchmark and could not be beaten today. BAVNSC & G1.

Hercules de Ubbadat (ATC). SWD dog of excellent type and proportions. Super masculine head with flat skull, correctly sized ears and big nose. Moderate neck and angulation both fore/aft. Ample width through his front/rear quarters and a level topline. Goes with a brisk action on the move and presented in a rustic coat. Would’ve preferred a better tail carriage.

Ansona Myriam. Slovakian Rough Haired Pointer bitch. Well up to size with impressive substance. Head of correct proportions with almond shaped eyes, decent facial furnishings. Moderate but balanced angulation both fore/aft. Coat is of good texture. Sound mover from all angles. Res Best Imp Reg.

POST GRADUATE (1,1)

Swiss Sh Ch, Fabpoint Pagan through Pointoak WW23 (Imp Prt). Portuguese Pointer bitch. Very medium sized and so balanced on the stack. So typical in head with a broad in skull, correct proportions, large nostrils and well defined stop. Her full eye shape enhanced her feminine expression. Excellent forehand assembly with a slightly sloping topline. Would not want her any longer in body for balance. Moderate bend of stifle with well developed thighs. In excellent coat and hard muscular condition. Captivating on the move with such a rhythmic action, a real lesson in correct front and hind action. Thought her to be ‘simply grand’! AV GUNDOG VETERAN (25,13) - This was such a cracking class of veterans to judge, thank you all for bringing them!

Sh Ch. Sarabande Lord Of The Dance (AI) JW. WSS dog, really liked his robust appearance with strong bone and obvious balance of angulation. Loved his head and expression with dark eyes. Mature through his body with good length of leg and perfectly level topline. Presented in first class order and can still show the youngsters how it’s done on the move. A lovely dog!

Medogold Tartini with Sonham OSW JW ShCM ShCEx. Pointer bitch, very curvy and free from exaggeration. Loved her head with obvious dish, plenty of chiselling around the eyes and thin ear leathers. Correct oval bone and feet. Gently sloping topline with balanced angulation fore/aft. Still moves on an easy stride with a lovely tail action. Another presented in hard condition.

GUNDOG GROUP - This was my first group appointment and I would like to thank all of the breed judges for sending through such quality exhibits for me to assess. Many dogs present today were ones I have done well previously, it was simply down to performance and condition on the day that separated them.

Sh Ch. Beresford Lock Down. ESS dog. Whose stallion-like ring presence went up another gear in a larger ring. Undeniable on the day!

Sh Ch. Crumbledor Albus Dumbledor at Rydonmist. Sussex Spaniel dog. Such an impressive male for his breed type and excellent bone/substance. Wide in skull with a slight curve and a well defined brow. Deep through his body with a level topline maintained at all times. Good ground clearance with a firm underline. Strongly made rear quarters with firm hocks and wide over the pelvis. Very sound going/coming with a breed-typical roll when viewed from the side. Put down in first class order, very close up to the ESS.

Swiss Sh Ch, Fabpoint Pagan through Pointoak WW23 (Imp Prt). Portuguese Pointer bitch. Could not be denied a top spot for her wonderful breed type and textbook movement.

Sh Ch. Gunalt Wavelength. Weimaraner bitch. Judged this one before and pleased to see she’s fulfilled her early promise. Appealing shape and proportions. Ultra feminine with lots of work in her head. Flows from neck through to her forehand. Deep brisket with correct length of leg, good spring of rib with firm topline and short loin. Wide over her pelvis with a well angulated rear and firm hocks. Presented in hard condition. On the move she displays such a typical smooth and coordinated action when viewed from any angle.


GUNDOG PUPPY GROUP - A great batch of puppies to judge. Again, many thanks to the breed judges for sending through such competitive exhibits.

Beresford Stand N’Stare. ESS dog. Did not stop showing and just owned the bigger ring. Such an exciting prospect.

Coedhelyg Ho Tee Machine. NSDTR dog, close up to the winner.

Teisgol Rose Campion. Pointer bitch, such an unexaggerated and honest bitch in every department. Loved her curvy shape and oval shaped bone. Prettiest of heads with some chiselling present and dark eyes. Compact in body with correct topline and unexaggerated angulation. Went on an easy stride and used her tail well.

Bracciano Now Or Never. Bracco Italiano bitch, liked her almost square outline. Typical head shape being long, lean and showing divergence. Balanced angulation both fore/aft with good bone and feet. Displayed such a breed-typical elastic side gait once she settled with particularly good rear action.
