Great Yarmouth, Gorleston & District Canine Society

Thursday 13th June

English Setter

Many thanks to the Society for the invitation to judge in this lovely part of the country and to my stewards for their assistance. Although it was a disappointing entry numerically with 50% absentees, this was made up for in terms of quality. I would like to thank the exhibitors for their entries and well - presented dogs.

Puppy (2, 1 abs)

1st McLoughlin Mrs V and Miss K: Arabin Love Maybe. Light b/b bitch of the type I like - just six months and three days. Quality chiselled head, dark eye and melting expression. Correct bite. Long, well arched neck flows into well laid shoulders. Very well proportioned overall for her tender age with super bone and feet. Immaculate presentation. Moved very well indeed for one so young.

Junior (2, 1 abs)

1st Skeggs-Gooch Mrs G: Nellasett Velvet Brown Lovely 14 mth tri bitch. Pretty feminine head, super dark eye, correct bite with a very good front assembly that flows into a level topline and good tailset. Nice straight front and good bone. True steady movement.

2nd Cannell Mrs J: Sharnyx Syenite. Grand 14 mth light b/b dog with lots to like but rather windy today, so I couldn’t go over him. However, he has a lovely head and expression, masculine without being coarse. Good bone and feet. Correct bite. Not the lay back of shoulder or tailset of 1. Movement difficult to assess. I hope his owner perseveres with him as he should mature into a nice dog.

Post Grad (2, 1 abs)

1st Cook Mrs S D: Pernickety Quartz. 2 y/o dark b/b bitch. Alone but a worthy winner. Feminine head flows into her elegant neck and compact, correctly proportioned body. Good straight front, well laid shoulders and excellent bend of stifle. Correct bite. Super neat feet. Very precise movement. Res. B.O.B

Limit (1, 1 abs)

Open (2, 1 abs)

1st Cook Mrs S D: Pernickety Quiddity. Litter brother to winner of P/G. I have admired him from the ringside previously and wasn’t disappointed going over him. This glorious o/b dog has a commanding ring presence even standing alone, one-part flows seamlessly into the next to create a near perfect whole. His head is masculine without a hint of coarseness and is correct in all planes and proportions. Ears low set. Correct bite. Well angulated shoulders. Level topline held on the move as he is well muscled. Short coupled with strong, well arched loins and good bend of stifle; correct tail set, low set hocks and excellent round bone and feet. His movement is strong, powerful and straight as a die. Immaculately presented. He has a lot to offer the breed and I will follow his career with interest. B.O.B.
