Northern Counties Whippet Club

Thank you to the Committee of Northern Counties Whippet Club for inviting me to judge their Limit Show, I was thrilled with my entry of over 80 dogs! Thanks also to all exhibitors for the opportunity to assess your dogs and for taking my decisions sportingly.

Minor Puppy Dog (5,1)

1. Fryer’s Deroonpark Rafferty at Stonefox. A striking puppy dog who commanded my attention. Masculine and elegant. Great balance, proportions and shapely throughout his body. He is well muscled in the rear and always stands four square. Very playful on the move making it difficult to truly assess his up and down movement, stopping him from challenging the ‘bests’. BPD.

2. Russell’s Longmire The Lark Ascending. A fine male with lots of qualities, not quite as mature as the class winner. Moderate front and rear angulation. Nice shape to topline and underline and kept this on the move.

3. Poole, Morris & Waddell’s Falconcrag Match Maker at Crosscop.

Puppy Dog (2,2)

Junior Dog (4)

1. Russell’s Longmire Atlantic Starman. A moderate red brindle dog who is perhaps going through a ‘leggy’ stage. Nice head and expression. Well developed through the body with good spring and shape to top and underline. Moderate hindquarters, well muscled with good turn of stifle. Moved soundly in all directions keeping his shape well.

2. McKinna’s Springfern Widgeon. Brindle parti colour, good for size. A pleasing head, expression and elegantly arched neck. Well angulated front and rear, not quite as developed through the body as 1. Moved soundly in all directions, but could be more spritely.

3. Holland’s Crosscop Love In The Dark.

Novice Dog (5,1)

1. Hywel’s Crosscop Rocket Man. My notes state this fawn and white dog was most together in this class. His long neck is set on a well developed body, which has good depth and shape. He has a curvy rear with well bent stifle and let down hocks. The best mover of this class; sound in all directions.

2. Holland’s Crosscop Love In The Dark. Dilute brindle with white trim. Has some maturing to do. Nice head with fine correctly shaped ears. Has good shape to topline but could have more fill and depth of chest. Moved soundly in profile.

3. Blenkarn’s Relight My Fire.

Special Beginners Dog (4,1)

1. Hywel’s Crosscop Rocket Man.

2. Mckinna’s Springfern Widgeon.

3. Furniss’ Jazzelie Reach For The Sky.

Graduate Dog (2,2)

Post Graduate Dog (3,1)

1. Winup & Paipala’s Rogansrock Harvest Moon. Well made silver brindle, shapely dog, who was a positive profile mover, just wish there was less of him all through, but he is all in proportion nonetheless.

2. Blenkarn’s Penwincoed Major North of Haregyll. Dilute brindle, better for size and substance than 1, but not quite the curves or accurate movement.

Limit Dog (3,1)

1. Poole & Service’s Crosscop Twist And Shout. A stand out in this dog entry, with lovely type and quality. Great for size and balance. Lovely head, expression and correct ears. Super neck into smooth well laid back shoulders. Elbows sitting well beneath him with spring to pasterns and neat feat. Shapely top and underline. Comes into his own on the move, low, effortless, easy stride. Moved well around the ring. BD & BOS.

2. Lloyd’s Sail On Sailor to Penwincoed. A moderate fawn dog, not quite as together as 1. Moved soundly, just lacked the shape and length of stride of the winner.

Open Dog (3,1)

1. Morris, Wardell, Mycroft & Mitchell’s Springfern Wild Thing at Crosscop. Shapely fawn dog, good for size and type. Nice head, expression and correct ears. Good shape to top and underline, but just lacking development through the body at the moment. Moved well in profile.

2. Coleman’s Rogansrock Born Lucky for Silurian. Pale brindle dog, heavier through than the winner of this class. Nice head, great neck into well back laid shoulders, well developed through the body with good spring and depth of chest.

Veteran Dog (3,1)

1. Russell’s Glantam Genesis at Arjuna. Fawn dog who was all of a piece. Great balance and excellent condition. Shapely through the body with great depth and spring of chest. Excellent tuck up, particularly for a veteran dog. Balanced front and rear, with well bent stifles and good width to thigh. Keeps his shape well on the move and is sound in all directions. RBD & BVIS.

2. Jenkinson & Elliott’s Winterfellin Gotta Dash avec Elstoto. Red and white parti colour of nice size. Showing his age a little more than the winner. Good head, strength of underjaw and soft expression. Moderate in front and rear angulation. Good footfall coming and going, but lacks enthusiasm.

Racing & Lure Coursing Open Dog (2)

1. Jenkinson & Elliott’s Coppermow Harfang Avec Elstoto. A traditional, shapely pale fawn brindle, nice for size. Good head and expression, with the desired shape to top and underline. Well bent stifles and used his rear well on the move.

2. Blenkarn’s Relight my Fire. A moderate fawn dog of nice size. Balanced in front and rear angulation, with enough shape to topline. Not quite as accurate as 1 on the move.

Racing & Lure Coursing Open Bitch (5,2)

1. Third’s Gorewater Jura Joy at Bruntsfield. Fawn bitch, appealed for her elegance, size and balance. Nice head held on a long neck into well laid back shoulders. Curvy in topline and underline and moves soundly in all directions. BSRCIS.

2. Fletcher’s My Diamond In The Sky over Shuleah. A petite black bitch, more compact throughout than 1. Well developed through the body with good spring and depth of chest with enough shape to topline and underline.

3. Caunce’s Ryamber Black Diamond.

Veteran Bitch (8,3)

1. Winp & Paipala’s Rogansrock Lucky Charm. Caught my eye from the outset of this class. Great for size, proportions and balance, with a quality look about her. Super front construction, well angulated with elbows beneath body. Good width and depth of chest. Balanced hindquarters. Moved sound in all directions. BVB.

2. Turner’s Gilnockie Fortune Cookie (AI). Black bitch, again nice for size. Good front construction, with good length and lay of shoulder accompanied with return of upper arm. Well developed through the body. Not quite the balance of 1. Moved well in profile.

3. Third’s Gorewater JuraJoy at Bruntsfield.

Minor Puppy Bitch (8)

1. Perkins & Mowbray’s West Chelan Just Josie with Silkridge (Imp). A clear winner of this class. A feminine bitch, of correct balance and proportion. Lovely head, smooth neck into well laid back shoulders. Correctly angulated front. Well developed through the body for her age with nice shape to her top and underline. Well muscled rear and well bent stifles. When settled she moves soundly in all directions keeping her shape. BPB & BPIS.

2. Salkeld & Graham’s Dalerafenn Follow A Dream. Another feminine bitch of nice size and proportions. Lots of scope but not quite as mature as 1. A lovely smooth curvy outline. Moves soundly.

3. Fryer’s Deroonpark Teal.

Puppy Bitch (3) A difficult class to separate, 3 quality puppies all different in type and stages of maturity.

1. Lloyd’s Penwincoed Amazing Grace. Blue brindle bitch, mature for her age. Nice head, smooth neck into well laid back shoulders. Balanced front and rear assembly. With time and more development through her body will give her a great finish. Moved soundly in all directions.

2. Marston-Pollock’s Falconcrag Gold Digger. A petite, feminine fawn bitch who appealed to me for type. Not quite as mature as the winner of the class, but despite this, has a great frame to grow into. Balanced in angulation with enough shape to her body. Moved well in profile, just not as settled as 1 coming and going.

3. Turner’s Gilnockie Kinda Cool. Loved this bitch, so feminine, with purposeful movement. Could have placed higher if she had been more settled on the table.

Junior Bitch (6,1)

1. Perkins & Van Der Schaaf’s Crème Anglaise’s Cassablanca with Silkridge (Imp NLD) JW. Fawn bitch that caught my eye on the initial go around. A feminine bitch all through. Refined head, clean neck into great front assembly. With typical shape to top and underline. Excels in profile movement with such a free easy gait covering ground and is clean coming and going.

2. Hywel’s Hologem Amazing Dream. Another fawn bitch of nice size. Long lean neck into well laid shoulders and good shape to her body giving a nice silhouette. Keeping her shape in profile, just not quite as accurate coming and going.

3. Owen’s Crosscop My Little Love.

Novice Bitch (4,2)

1. Marston-Pollocks’ Falconcrag Drama Queen. A fawn bitch, mature for her age. Nice head and make-up giving an appealing expression. Balanced in angulation front and rear with well developed body and curves. Easy stride in profile keeping her shape, just a little excited coming and going.

2. Caunce’s Ryamba Black Diamond. Petite black bitch of a nice size and certainly very feminine. Just lacking in body.

Special Beginners Bitch (5,1)

1. Mallinson’s Edenwhip Vera. Brindle bitch with white trim, feminine with nice proportions. Great head piece, correct ears and long lean neck. Has enough curves throughout the body. Well angulated rear quarters, with good width to thighs. Won this class on her accuracy moving away and back and free action in profile.

2. Hywel’s Hologem Amazing Dream.

3. Riding-Smith’s Cobyco Cream Sundae.

Graduate Bitch (5,2)

1. Clewes’ Shardeck Kick Up A Storm. Quality fawn/white trim bitch. Well balanced in angulation, and on the move she was purposeful and accurate coming and going with good reach and drive, keeping her shape throughout.

2. Third’s Bruntsfield Loch Morar. A nicely built fawn bitch again of good size and of different type to the winner of this class. She has lovely shape to top and underline and good depth of chest. Could just do with carrying a little more weight to finish off the smoothness of outline.

3. Hutchinson’s Crosscop Lets Dance with Sweetaurora

Post Graduate Bitch (8,1)

1. Fryer’s Crosscop Tickled Pink at Stonefox. A quality fawn bitch. Excellent proportions. Stacked, she paints a lovely picture. Nice head, on a long neck set into smooth shoulders. Balanced angulation fore and aft with curves throughout. Moves soundly coming and going, could use her rear more in profile. Came close to top honours.

2. Wilkinson’s Silkridge Saffron of Fletchgate. A feminine blue brindle and white bitch in excellent condition. A pleasing head, and soft expression. Has enough shape to topline and excellent underline, would just like a little more length through the body. Moves clean in all directions.

3. Turner’s Gilnockie Indigo Blue.

Limit Bitch (8,3)

1. Myers & Pilkington’s Supeta’s Taste The Rainbow with Astrazone. A feminine, pale brindle bitch who is great for size! She has a pleasing head and expression, is a little raw through the body but has good front and rear angulation and is sound in all directions on the move.

2. Mason’s Veredon Laurent Perrier for Aphrael. A quality fawn bitch, slightly stronger built than my winner. Beautiful head and expression, well developed through the body with nicely angulated hind quarters. Has a great stride in profile, just not quite as clean as my winner coming towards.

3. Salkeld & Graham’s Crosscop A Dream Come True for Dalerafenn.

Open Bitch (4) A quality class.

1. Perkins’ Silkridge Jasmine. A quality pale brindle bitch with white trim, who is feminine, great for size and perfectly balanced with no exaggerations. She has a lovely head, soft expression and correct ears. Excellent front construction with correct lay back of shoulder, return of upper arm and fill of chest. Well developed through the body with graceful curves in topline and underline. Her rear is textbook, well muscled with correct turn of stifle and let down hocks. She really comes into her own on the move, moving sound in all directions covering good ground and keeping her shape at all times. BB & BIS.

2. Morris, Waddell, Mycroft & Mitchell’s Crosscop You Are My Destiny at Ardencote. A very curvy bitch, different in type to the winner of this class, but like my winner feminine and of such quality. Excellent head, expression and fine well set ears. Well angulated front and rear, accompanied with curvy top and underline giving a great silhouette. Moved well. RBB.

3. Blake’s Silkridge In A Moment at Mazargo ShCEx.
