Chesterfield Canine Society 04/05/2024
Many thanks to the committee of Chesterfield Canine Society for my invite to judge some of the hound breeds, and organising a great event! The venue was excellent, great ring sizes with short grass, and luckily the weather was in our favour. I was pleased to see my BOB Whippet win HG4, HPG1 and ultimately RBPIS. My BOB Beagle went on to win HG3, Beagle BP won HPG2 and Wire Haired Dachshund BP win HPG4.
Beagle:
Puppy Dog or Bitch (3)
1. Bridgeman’s Kingswin Jules In The Crown. A mature tri-colour bitch of good proportions. Built on a stronger frame than 2. Good forequarter angulation with well laid back shoulders and return of upper arm, good depth of chest and front infill. Well developed through the body with excellent topline and underline. Correct tailset and hindquarters, with good turn of stifle and strength to thighs. Excelled in profile with long low reaching stride and using her rear well, keeping her topline throughout. BPIB & Pleased to see her win HPG2.
2. Hardisty’s Blunderhall Flirty Girty. A feminine bitch, not quite as mature as 1 but has a nice frame to grow into. Preferred her head over 1, correct proportions, well sat ears and lovely soft expression. Level topline, deep chest extending well back. Well angulated and muscled hindquarters. Is true coming and going, just not quite the stride and fluidity of front movement as the winner in profile.
3. Griffin’s Clarismore Winter Luxury.
Junior Dog or Bitch (3,1)
1. Goldberg’s Molesend Giorgio. An attractive tri-colour masculine dog. Pleasing head, well set ears and soft expression. Good length of neck leading to well developed body. Ribs sprung and extending well back with desirable topline and underline. Well angulated hind quarters with good width and strength of thighs. Moves true coming and going, with a free flowing side gait, keeping his level topline and carrying his tail well. Would just like a shaving off him everywhere.
2. Hardisty’s Blunderhall Saucy Sally. Tri-colour bitch, litter sister to 2nd in puppy, with a lot of the same attributes, feminine throughout and of nice size. Well angulated front with nice fill of chest, a little raw through the body, well angulated rear which she used well whilst moving. She just lost the shape to her topline moving in profile.
Post Graduate Dog or Bitch (2) A difficult class, both nice bitches of different type.
1. Lennard’s Butterow Unity. This tri-colour bitch caught my attention on the initial go around with her free easy stride. She is balanced in front and rear angulation with desired shape to topline. Perhaps could be shorter coupled to give a more compact first impression.
2. Statham’s Serenaker Paloma at Brigam. This tan and white bitch appealed to me for her pretty head and purposeful movement in profile. She is balanced and feminine. I just found her to be stood too much over her front, making her loaded over the shoulders.
Open Dog or Bitch (5)
1. Goldberg’s Molesend Crumble (AI). A feminine bitch with a beautiful head of correct proportions, strength without coarseness, topped off with soft oozing expression. Long neck into well laid back shoulders. Good infill of chest and return of upper arm. Level topline, chest falling beneath the elbow, ribbed well back and short coupled. Moves soundly in all directions with free easy action. BOB & HG4.
2. Bridgeman’s Kubik Csiki Kopo at Kingswin (Imp Srb). Tan and white male, who caught my eye particularly moving around the ring. Long strong neck leading into pleasing topline which he kept whilst moving. Moved soundly in all directions with purpose. Would like a cleaner and more refined head.
Whippet:
Puppy Dog or Bitch (4,2)
1. Mycroft’s Crosscop California Barbie from Supeta. A quality, elegant fawn bitch, perfect for size and proportions. A beautiful head on long strong neck leading into graceful curves throughout her topline and into her croup, finished with correct tail set. Developed through the body with good depth of chest, and spring to ribs. Well angulated hindquarters with good width to thighs and let down hocks. Impresses most on the move, keeping her lovely outline whilst covering ground and moves to and fro with excellent footfall. BOB & BPIB.
2. Cooper’s Crosscop I’m Always Yours at Ballauren. Another quality puppy with similar attributes to the winner, feminine and nice for size. Pretty head, long strong neck into well laid shoulders. Not quite as mature through the body as 1, but hopefully with time will develop. Well angulated hindquarters, always standing square. Moved well keeping her shape, could be more enthusiastic moving in profile, nonetheless a nice puppy.
Junior Dog or Bitch (1)
1. Higginbottom, Wheeler & Rutter’s Ranveli Royal Touch. Elegant fawn bitch of lovely quality. Great for size, balance, and very feminine. Nice head, neck and well constructed front. Graceful curves to topline and underline with well sprung ribs and good depth of chest. Correctly angulated and well muscled hindquarters. Has fantastic profile movement, could just be a little cleaner coming towards.
Post Graduate Dog or Bitch (2,1)
1. Higginbottom’s Ranveli Royal Duke of Dawnsafon. A masculine and elegant male. Litter brother to 1st in Junior, with a lot of similar virtues. Very attractive pale fawn with dark pigment and soft expression. Balanced in angulation fore and aft with nice graceful curves throughout the body. Has a lovely free flowing gait in profile, would just like more accuracy coming and going.
Limit Dog or Bitch (3,1)
1. Hope’s Demerlay On A Promise. Red fawn dog. Nice head set on a long neck. Good spring of rib and depth of chest with elbows sitting beneath him. Good spring to pasterns and feet. Has good shape to topline stacked, slightly overdone in the rear and this changed his overall outline when moving.
2. Cooper’s Sylleka Shantay You Stay at Ballauren. Fawn parti bitch, beautiful head, dark pigment and soft expression. Good infill of chest and spring to rib. Carrying too much weight so lacking some shape throughout her body. Well angulated rear used well on the move.
Open Dog or Bitch (2,1)
1. Hope’s Demerlay Charming Charlie. Fawn dog with no exaggerations. Balanced in angulation fore and aft with enough shape through the body. Moves with a free action reaching and driving in profile.
Wire-Haired Dachshund:
Puppy Dog or Bitch (2,1)
1. Hampton’s Braithwell Jenny Wren for Bassluxe. A promising puppy of good proportions. Lovely head and eyes with dark pigment. Particularly appreciated her for her length of leg and ground clearance. Well angulated front and rear quarters, just lacking some forechest at present. Moved well. BPIB & HPG4.
Junior Dog or Bitch (5,3)
1. Lowe’s Nasiriyah’s Last Kiss. A bitch of correct proportions. Pleasing head with correct ears. Prominent sternum, ribbed well back with ample width of chest. Short, strong loin, with slight arch to topline. Has a tendency to move with her nose on the floor, restricting her front movement and making it difficult to fully assess.
2. Brierley’s Tatze Harlem. Attractive head, long neck into well laid shoulders and good return of upper arm. Sufficient breast bone, and great length of leg. Not quite the body proportions of 1. Good front movement, but preferred the hind movement of 1.
Post Graduate Dog or Bitch (3,2)
1. Lowe’s Nasiriyah’s French Kiss. Litter sister to 1st in Junior Dog/Bitch and very similar in type. Harsh coat. Correct head proportions, well set ears and dark pigmentation. Good front angulation with sufficient breast bone. Nice depth and width of chest with front legs set well beneath her body and elbows tucked in. Good body proportions, well ribbed back with short loin. Well angulated rear and correct tail carriage. The most positive mover in the entry. BOB.
Open Dog or Bitch (1)
1. Brierley’s Bramalodge Bonfire Heart at Tatze. 3 year old bitch. Nice head, well set ears with dark pigment. Prominent forechest, with good depth of chest and spring to ribs and extending well back. A little bum high on the move and could settle into her hindquarters more.
