Labrador Retrievers
Many thanks to the committee of the United Retriever Club for inviting me to judge at this friendly and well-run show. I was very honoured with the super entry numerically and was pleased with my principal winners. Well done on the puppy bitch for RBPIS.
Minor Puppy Dog 1 Landebec Ventura. Yellow dog. Very nice for overall type. He is quite a raw young male who needs time to fill and mature through. Pleasing head of good proportions, with good breadth of skull. Well set ear of correct size, nice eye and lovely pigmentation through. Pleasing forehand. Good bone and nice compact foot. Good topline and tail. In a good jacket. Needs to settle in front a fraction which hopefully should come with time. A nice prospect.2 Tugford Digby. Another yellow and very different to the first placed dog. Nicely angulated fore and rear, not quite the breadth of skull and the finish in head of the first placed dog, his head is yet to break. Good neck and shoulder. Nice compact foot. Would prefer a slightly stronger topline. Good tail. Moved with drive from behind although a little high stepping in the front. Another that needs time.
Puppy Dog 1 Landebec Ventura. Winner. of minor puppy. 2 Saranden Im On Fire. Yellow dog and more mature than the first placed dog. Much to like about this young male who has a very pleasing head and expression. He has a lovely dark eye and well-placed ears which helps give him his kind expression. His overall head proportions are correct. Good clean neck and well laid shoulders. Overall, his forehand is slightly better angulated than the first placed dog. He has a good topline and is well ribbed up. Short coupled. Well angulated hind quarters. For me he has a little too much length to his topcoat which detracts from the overall picture. Moved well in front and if I am being hypercritical could have a fraction more drive from behind. today. Two nice young Labrador males.
Junior Dog 1. Frewlings Justin Rose at Bearstone. This young black had a good day under me annexing two class wins and a good second. I really liked him as soon as he came into the ring for his overall balance and proportions and was not disappointed to handle him. Pleasing head which has a good breath to his skull without being overdone, correct amount of stop and foreface of sufficient strength. Correct eye. Won here on his correct front assembly, well made forehand with good bone and feet. He is well ribbed up with a good short loin. Correct Ottertail which is well clothed with a short dense coat. The only distraction today was that he could be in a slightly better body jacket. Would be better moved on a loose lead to get the best out of him. I very much like this dog today and I hope he does well. 2 Potterspiney My Sovereign. Pleasing yellow and another dog of good overall balance. He has a quality head with pleasing expression. Would like a fraction more strength to the muzzle for completeness. Good neck into well. placed and long shoulders. Well developed chest. Correct spring of rib and well ribbed back. Correct Labrador tail. Nice hind angulation. In the best of jackets. Could be a little tidier in front coming towards you.
Yearling Dog 1 Ultimo Romeo of Misty Dreams (IMS FRA). Exuberant young yellow male who impressed for his overall balance and correct proportions. I liked his head which is of correct proportions, good eye, super pigment and well placed ears of good size which frame his face well to give him his lovely expression. Good neck and well laid shoulder. Lovely bone for a male. He has a nice level top line and correct tail which is appropriately set. He is well ribbed back although I would prefer a fraction more spring of rib to complete the picture. Nicely angulated at the stifle. Well muscled behind. In good, nice jacket and moved well 2 Frewlings Justin Rose at Bearstone. Winner of junior. 3 Potterspiney My Sovereign
Graduate Dog 1 Frewlings Justin Rose at Bearstone. Winner of Junior. 2 Potterspiney Optimist Vision. Quality yellow. Nice for overall size and shape. Nice front assembly, good topline, and nicely ribbed. Correct rear angulation. Moved very well on loose lead with good reach and drive. In good condition. Just preferred the overall expression of 1. 3 Trulace Ambassador
Post Graduate Dog 1 Lonicerium Jack Sparra. Very smart yellow dog who immediately appealed for his overall size and balance in this class. He has a very nice head and excellent expression which won him this class. He has a good length of neck which is well muscled reaching to well placed, long shoulders. If one was to be very hypercritical then a fraction more length of upper arm would complete what is a very nice picture. He has good bone and lovely feet. Super top line which is retained on the move at all times. Excellent tail which is of ideal length, set and well covered. He uses his tail to advantage. Lovely angulation through the rear well-muscled and good angulation at the stifle. Well let down hocks and he stands Square on. I really liked this dog who was in good condition today. He pushed the winner hard. I wish him well. Res BD. 2 Trendlewood One More Time. Another nice one who is not quite as finished as the first placed dog and needs to gain a little confidence. He is however a very typical dog with lovely pigment and good expression. Correct forehand. In good muscle throughout. Correct level top line well ribbed and nicely coupled. Good rear. Moved freely and true. 3 Kimbajak Full Golden Monty of Waggador
Open Dog 1 Devonshires Yellowstone at Mariank (IMP USA). Not a small dog but is a quality dog through and through. He pleased me here for his overall head and expression which was very typical. My notes simply say lovely for type. Good neck into well-placed shoulders. Chest of good breadth and depth. Super bone. Feet could be fractionally tighter to complete the picture if I am being picky. Lovely rib and short strong loin. Super rear. Lovely on the move in all directions. In excellent jacket and in super hard A1 condition. BD. 2 Chelmscote Key Component. Has judged this boy before, a heavier dog and not quite the length of neck and shoulder placement of the first placed dog. He is a nice male who is nicely made through the body with good chest, good rib and level topline. He has a good tail which he uses well he is nicely angulated at the rear which is pleasing. I thought he was carrying a fraction too much weight today which detracted from the overall picture. In excellent jacket. Moved well. 3 Ramsayville Right On tIme for Kaspair
Minor Puppy Bitch 1 Landebec Villanelle. Little sister to the winner of puppy dog. Very much out of the same mould. She is another with a lovely had an expression with good pigment and lovely dark eyes. Like her brother she is still very raw and needs to fill through and mature. However has all the essentials to do well. Nice neck into well-placed shoulders. Correct top line and tail set. Good breadth to her chest and of good depth. Could have a fraction more length of upper arm if one is being hypercritical. Nicely angulated rear. Moved very well covering good ground with a free and easy action. 2 Sundyke Secret Arrow. Chocolate bitch. Who is still very raw and needs time. Not quite as finished in the head as the first placed bitch but has the essentials. Correct head proportions. Good neck into very well placed shoulders. Lovely bone in feet. Good hind angulation and another that moved well in this class. 3 Trulace Demerara
Puppy Bitch. This was a lovely class and I really enjoyed going over these bitches. I thought that the first three were all excellent which bodes well. 1 Saranden Book Of Dreams. Litter sister to my second in puppy dog. This yellow bitch has many attributes and is now quite mature and all of a piece. Nice head and expression. Super neck into very good well placed shoulder. Good breadth to her well made front. Good bone. Level topline and good tail set. Excels on the move with nice free action. Good jacket. I thought her a good prospect and was pleased to award her BP and that she later annexed RBPIS. 2 Trendlewood It Takes Two. Very promising chocolate who exhibits a lovely silhouette and my eye kept coming back to her. She gave me what the standard asks, strongly built and short coupled yet she is still feminine. Appealed in head which is of good overall proportions with good eye and ear. Good neck and the best of shoulders. Well ribbed for such a young bitch and already quite mature. Best of toplines and one of the best tails of the day. Moved very well in both directions. In good jacket. I suspect she will do well with time. 3 Landebec Villanelle
Junior Bitch 1 Foxrush Hermoine. Easy winner for me. I really liked this bitch for her overall type, size, substance and yet femininity. Typical head with decent breadth to her skull, enough stop and correct foreface. Nice intelligent eye and correct ear size. Clean through the neck with super shoulders. Good depth and breadth to her chest and well ribbed back. Correct topline. Correct otter tail. Well angulated but not overdone hind quarters. Excellent double coat of good clean colour. Free and easy mover. Sound fore and aft. Was more than happy to award her the class and subsequently BB and BOB. I believe today gave her the JW. Well done. 2 Potterspiney Ahsoka Two. Another good bitch with plenty of qualities to her. Slightly longer cast than the first placed bitch. Nice head and expression, super pigment, would prefer a little more plushness to her muzzle to complete the overall picture. Good neck and shoulder. Well made throughout. Good bone and feet. Good tail. Moved very well. Would just benefit from a little more maturity. 3 Mcfarwins Flashing Lights.
Yearling Bitch 1 Potterspiney Ahsoka Two. Winner of second in junior. 2 Mcfarwins Flashing Lights. Nice yellow. Presents a pleasing overall shape. Nice head and expression. Not quite as broad in the front as 1 which cost her a place. Good topline. Nice rear. Moved very well. Would like a harsher topcoat. In good hard muscular condition.
Graduate Bitch 1 Foxrush Henrietta. Super yellow bitch from the same kennel as my best bitch and best of breed today and very similar. Another who is quality through with a beautiful head and expression which is of good strength yet distinctly feminine. Lovely pigment through. Good eye. Good through the neck and shoulder. Nice bone and compact feet. Typical Otter like tail. Moved very well in both directions. Sound through. 2 The Beat Goes On Of Misty Dreams (IMP FRA). Another very nice prospect. Good head and expression. Nice eye and ear of good size and well set on the skull. Nice to the neck and shoulder. Good top line. Well ribbed. For me I would prefer a fraction length of leg just to complete the picture. A little out of jacket today which cost a higher honours. 3 Hurstmeon Just My Cup of Tea
Post Graduate Bitch 1Trendlewood Tiger Lily JW. Very nice yellow bitch who impressed with her beautiful head and expression, which won her this class. She is a quality bitch through and is of good size and well balanced. Lovely through the front and well angulated rear. She is maturing well through her mid-piece, and I thought she was quite lovely on the day. In excellent condition and in excellent coat. Handled to advantage she is a very easy mover. She was pushed hard by the second bitch whom I also liked very much but I was delighted to give her his class and subsequently she was reserve best bitch and reserve best breed.2 Foxrush Joyful. Another quality young bitch with little to dislike here, she is very typey through and again another easy and free mover. For me today I just prefer the overall expression on Tiger lily. Another that should do well. 3 Loncerium Black Pearl
Open Bitch. Well filled class with some quality bitches present. Was not the easiest class to sort out.1 Suttonpark Conseula. This is a very pleasing bitch for her overall size and her balance. She won this class on her beautiful expression. Her head is correct in its proportions she has a lovely pigment, good expression and well framed by nicely sized ears which are well set on. She has a very feminine head without any signs of weakness. Nicely made through the front with nice feet. Nice rib. Correct tail set. Nicely angulated rear which is in no way overdone. She was shown at exactly right the right pace and is a sound move fore and aft. I was pleased to award her this class. Unfortunately, in the challenge she just had had enough and was not as strong top line as in her class. I liked her very much.2 Sundyke Secret Steps this is also a nice bitch. Not quite the breadth of school as the first place bitch but otherwise a very pleasing head and expression. She is nicely made. Good top line and tail set. Enough bone with lovely feet. In good jacket. Moved well. 3 Stand By Me of Misty Dreams (IMP FRA).
