Cocker Spaniels
Thank you to the committee of The Cheshire show for inviting me to judge at their excellent well run and well supported show. My many thanks to the officers and committee of The North of England Cocker Spaniel Association for trusting me with their supported entry. I was delighted by the entry, thank you. I had some super quality cockers to judge. Bitches were better than dogs overall in this entry.
Puppy Dog. 1 Rockllocers Condor. B/T. Smart young Cocker who is quite mature for his ten and a half months. Pleasing head and expression with lovely dark eye. Good fine leathers of correct length and good set on. Pleasing length of neck into nice shoulder placement. Well ribbed up for a youngster. Good topline and strong short loin. Nice tail set. Correct hind angulation. Moved well although needs to settle in front.
Junior. 1 Rockllocers Atropos. Quality gold male. Cobby dog with much to like and of good size. Good head which is of correct proportions and nicely chiselled. To be hypercritical his ears could be a fraction higher set. Good neck and shoulder. Well-developed chest with deep brisket. Super rib which won him this class. Well-rounded rear and well-muscled hindquarters. Typical Cocker action. 2 Milalder Jumpin Jack Flash Nice blue roan with lots to admire, different in type to 1. Pleasing head and expression with lovely full dark eye. Good neck and shoulder. Nice front. Needs to fill out and mature. Moved well although could have put a little more in today. 3 Tosiparose Super Ted
PG. 1 Wilmerella Highlander. I really liked this quality roan. At fifteen and half months now he is just coming into his own and is mature and well-muscled through. He is of good size and overall shape. Very typical head piece of ideal proportions. Very nicely chiselled. Full dark eye and nice leathers which are well clothed. Good front assembly and correct amount of bone for a dog. Well ribbed and cobby body. Correct topline. Super rear. In good quality coat. Moved well with good cocker action. 2 Joaldy Mr Happy at Amaranth. Another quality dog who was unlucky to meet 1 in good form. I liked this male very much and many of the qualities of Highlander also apply here. He has a very nice quality head and the best of neck and shoulders. I just felt him a fraction longer cast than 1. In A1 condition and so sound on the move despite the warm sun. 3 Dandy Jan Dark Defender
Limit. 1 Wilmerella Perfect Storm. Blue roan. Pleasing for size and overall shape. Good head of correct proportions. Nice dark eye. Nice rib and good body. Correct topline which is retained on the move. Lovely typical rear of good width. Moved with drive. In good jacket of correct texture and in hard condition. 2 Ludzska Royal Crest. Different in type to 1. Good head and well set leathers. Nice expressive eye. Correct overall body proportions. Correct topline. Moved very well in all directions with plenty of drive front behind. Just preferred the front on the first dog.
Open. 1 Rayol Caught You Looking in Zienne. Stood alone today but in no way disgraced as he is a very nice Cocker. Not a big dog but is very typey, lovely in profile and is all of a piece. Pleasing head and expression with good eye which is full dark and very expressive. Head nicely chiselled. Good neck into well placed shoulders. Super rib. Correct topline and well-set tail. Well-rounded typical rear and excellent turn of stifle. Good bone and feet. Lovely, desired action and sound BD.
Puppy Bitch. What a lovely class to judge. Only two here but what promising puppies both high quality and exciting prospects. 1 Glantraeth Ovation at Oktumi. Seven months old. I thought her quite delightful. She has the most feminine and correct head pieces, but her femininity does not allow any loss of strength. Beautiful dark expressive eye and well set leathers of sufficient length. Correct length of neck into good shoulders and her forehand is pleasure to handle. Well ribbed up already at this age. Good bone and nice tight foot. Correct topline and croup. Tail set correctly and well used. Moved well with drive. Needs her adult jacket but I thought her quite lovely. Delighted to hear that she later went RBPIS. 2 Quettadene Rising Start. Black. This is another bitch who handles so well and is just correctly made. Not yet quite as mature in head as the first bitch and needs to break a little but I am in now doubt the finished head will be quite lovely. Correct proportions and planes. Lovely eye. Good neck and shoulder. Well made front. Another who already has a good rib and is well ribbed back. Correct topline. Not so settled on the move with change of handler but when she is settled shows that desired merry cocker action.
Junior Bitch. Wilmerella Memphis Belle. This is a beautiful Blue Roan who instantly stood out in this large and quality class. She is of ideal shape and size and does not disappoint on handling. Really lovely quality head of ideal proportions and so nicely chiselled. Good open nose. Lovely length of neck into super shoulder placement and ideal forehand. Decent bone and nice tight feet. Super rib. Level topline with correct cocker tail set. Nice hindquarters. My notes say ‘very little to dislike’ easy winner of this class and RBB. I think in my opinion she will do very well. 2 Milalder Lady Madonna. Nice B/W. Another with a lovely head piece. Good neck and shoulder. Lovely bone and feet. Good rib. Slightly longer cast than 1. Good rear. Sound on the move although could be a little firmer in topline. 3 Jamesfield Just The Ticket at Regaltav
PG Bitch. 1 Cassom Blue Muse at Regaltav. Pleased for her overall shape and size. Quality head with pleasing eye and nicely chiselled through. Good neck and shoulder. Decent bone and good feet. Well ribbed. Nice topline and tailset. Good rear angulation. A solid well-made Cocker. Could have moved with a little more rear drive. 2. Tomarisroan Star Maker. Nice for size and shape. Good head of nice proportions. Well ribbed up and in good body. Nicely angulated rear. Not quite the neck and shoulder of the first placed bitch. Moved well with typical action. 3. Rockllocers Time Delay
Limit Bitch. 1 Oktumi Painted In Diamonds for Jernito. I really liked this blue roan bitch. She instantly appealed for her size shape and attitude, she really is a happy merry cocker and her action on the move is just that. I thought she has a beautiful headpiece with ideal proportions and is delicately chiselled, this plus her lovely full eye and well-placed ears allow for that desired expression. Correct length of neck into good shoulders. Good bone. Super rib and body shape. Lovely solid wide bum and just so well angulated. In A1 condition and in the best of jackets. I was delighted to have her today and although Just feeling the heat towards the end but could not be denied her BOB. Later Group 2 under Mr Geoff Corish. 2 Ziennes Azzura. Another nice one. Heavier through than 1. Very nice head and expression. Well made with correct rib and lovely topline. Nice rear angulation. Moved very well with nice action and good drive from behind. 3 Dandy Jan Tiny Dancer
Open Bitch. 1 Quettadene Queen of Stars. Lovely mature solid black. Super make and shape. Very pleasing quality head which really melts you when you first meet her. Such a lovely eye. Good neck and shoulder. Best of ribs. Short wide muscular loin. Great rear and well turned stifle. Lovely action on the move although a little unsettled at times. 2 Rockllocers Time Delay (third in PG). 3 This bitch was lacking in coat and clippered a bit too much for me. However, despite this I had to reward her overall breed type and good construction. Pleasing head. Super rib. Moved very well. 3 Kyna Crystal Clear
